For the price and quality the Recon Tanto is hard to beat. Been a staunch proponent of this blade since I bought my first back in the Carbon V and welted leather sheath days.
Yep! I also have a U.S. Made Carbon V version of this knife. I can honestly say - I've never felt a fixed blade that just seemed like it was part of my hand to the level the R.T. does. I have a pile of other fixed blades, including more Cold Steel tantos (Master and Warcraft) but that ol Recon Tanto is just so right 👍 I'm a sucker for the bling and nostalgia of the Master Tanto so it gets more time but I have to admit - it doesn't "flow" quite the way that ol Recon does. They nailed it with this one!
In my Army days, I carried a Gerber 600 Magnum LST on my belt, an Ontario SP5-95 in my ruck and the Cold Steel Recon Tanto Carbon V on my LBV. That tanto will do just about anything you need it to.
Cool video. I just bought this knife. I love it but it did chip a sizeable piece of the blade coating off when I stabbed a piece of drywall. Which surprised me. But no damage to the blade itself.
The problem with the Secure-X sheath, is its noisy. Clicks when you put the knife in and clicks when you pull it out. I got mine way back in the late 80's, early 90's, when they where still made out of Carbon V steel, and the sheath was stiffened Ballistics cloth nylon, with two retention straps. According to a friend who was a Paratrooper, strange guy, that means its combat jump capable. I will most likely have mine till I shuffle off this mortal coil. Stay Sharp, the world is getting even stranger by the day.
The Recon Tanto is the best budget survival knife out there! I took my SK5 up the eastern seaboard from Florida to Maine stopping everywhere to camp and fish. This trip took over 3 months. The Recon Tanto made a bow drill, chopped fatwood, made feather sticks, baton thousands of sticks for the gassifier stove. It fileted trout and other kitchen duties. I love this knife, so I got the San mai VG10. I wish it was still made in the CPM-3V.
@MNWoodland I know, I'm just not fond of SK5 is all, I have the SRK in AUS8A, VG10 and the 3V is on it's way to me, I've always liked the look of the Recon Tanto though. I'll eventually get one.

I got mine, right before the leather sheath :)

I'm buying one right now ❤
Damn, was that ammo can new????
It was a junky Walmart made in china can and the latch was broken.
Definitely a cool knife, not a fan of SK5 steel, I wish Cold Steel made this one in AUS10A or even AUS8A. Just as another steel option.
They actually did make it is aus8 at one point, as well as carbon v. As far as I know right now they make them in sk5, 3v, and San mai.

@@rnkmode1876 The srk is on my buy soon list.
@@MNWoodland go to Midway ASAP, I got my SRK in 3V for only $109, but I heard now it's only $100! Better check it out while the price is that low.
@@MNWoodland They still make the 3v one ? Thought it was discontinued
