Well said….I’ve owned several Kabar and Kabar style knives over the decades! Finally settled on quality and tweaked innovation versus nostalgia. My CS Leatherneck SF is a workhorse and fondler! Peace Be The Journey!
Me and my boys have had this knife in D2 for years. It’s one of my beater knives. We processed seasoned oak and fat wood. Cold Steel doesn’t exceed 60 HRC on this knife.
It’s February 2024 and My CS Leatherneck SF has arrived. The guard is solid and my grip is embossed on both sides with the Cold Steel branding. All is good. I’ve owned several Kabar USMC fighting knives, but was never happy / satisfied with the leather sheath. Sorry, it’s Canada and we have the gamut of varying weather systems. Read: Freezing rain or freezing conditions after a downpour. That’s a ‘leather killer”. Love all the upgrades that Cold Steel made to the legendary Kabar. Most pleased. Now I have my forever keeper pigsticker (as we called these tools in the Infantry). Great report even if you didn’t even cut paper to test the sharp edge. No Worries!! I appreciated you highlighting all the details. Oh yeah, my knife did not come in a box at all. It was in some sort of clamshell clear plastic wrapper with the cardboard description all around the clamshell. It’s All Good! Peace Be The Journey!
Just received mine today, and also a slightly loose guard fresh out the box. Its not loose enough for me to send back though. Will see how this beautiful knife holds up.
I also own a Leatherneck SF (2nd knife). I sent the 1st one back to the seller since the guard was also loose right out of the box. They replaced it with a new one but it still has the same issue 😂 I think it’s an occurring issue in Leathernecks since the take over. I didn’t bother sending the replacement back since it was already too much of a hassle. Great knife over all! GREAT REVIEW OF THE KNIFE! Watching from the Philippines 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Somebody had the same issue with the leatherneck bowie. He used thread between the guard and the handle to fix it. Well done Cold Steel. Great steel, great bragging and goofing it up at the very basic level!
I have the “Leatherneck Tanto” and the guard felt loose as well but what I have noticed is, if you have a tight grip on the rubber handle it doesn’t rattle. But if I hold it with two fingers and start shaking it the guard moves back and forth.
@@killshot2534 Some youtuber said that if a small thread is put around the handle between the rubber and the guard, it stops the rattle. The rattle is because the guard is not fixed properly to the handle and the rubber keeps it from moving. If there is too much space between the rubber and the guard, it rattles. You may also wish to send it back. There is a video on it on youtube somewhere.
I bought tge tanto leather neck cold steel a awesome knife baton wood with it. No issues so far have not broke it yet. It chops very well. Awesome knife for 68.00 on knife center.
When I bought this I learned” I hate tactical” looking blades. I do enjoy cold steels other designs “ example Spartan / 4 max scout. But this was not my style all. But the quality is very nice and kept it.
This exactly knife is currently $36 at MidwayUSA. Comes in the GSM clam shell packaging. Midway has $15 off $100 right now. 3 of these for under a hundo….and we know why based on your unit 👍👍
I don’t really believe you said we use them harder. Compared to what period? WWII, WWI, the old west, 1800’s. Today most people barely use knives forget about carrying them.
I have each of the older models in Krupp 4116. Doesn't hold an edge as long as D2 but I don't care, basically rust immune and easy to keep sharp. Great model of knife. Also, when you say we "use knives harder than back in the day", that isn't due to necessity whatsoever. People used to use the right tool for the job, but these days we want to use a knife for everything like we're going backwards in evolution. Never had a problem with Secure-ex sheaths myself but I've seen others have issues. Glad you got a good one
@@IrregularrAF and for someone like you my friend, we now have knives available which are specifically built and marketed for that. Most of which are the Becker BK9
Just got the Tanto Leatherneck and yeah, loose guard too. Same as my regular Leatherneck. For me, no big deal. Easy fix! LOVE the knife but, it really bugs people and they should NOT rattle out of the box! Other than that the Leatherneck, would (for me) be the perfect knife! Btw, I've had no guard issue with my L.T. & regular black Leather neck Bowie's... Go figure?
I have the "Lynn Thompson" edition and mine came with a loose guard right out of the box. Very disappointing and soured me enough that I've abandoned the idea of adding other sizes to my collection. Thank you for your honest review! [Oh, I have an expensive and large letter opener now!] 😢
Mine looks just like this one with no branding in the handle.. Got me looking at it sideways lol.. I was wondering if you new why some have it some don’t?
You said ka bar style knife then said Ontario leatherneck but it’s a cold steel. lol there is no such thing as a ka bar style knife. It’s a brand and just modeled after a fighting Bowie knife. Good video though.
So funny how all those outdoorsy, rifle wheeling, gun slinging, bush crafting, soldier types, camo wearing, ruff guys all want to be so very individualistic but they ALL seem to buy their ring in the same "we only have this one black ring" shop. Are all you guys married? Or did you buy a whole lot in one buy to get it cheaper? But it's almost laughable hahaha. Oh ... fantastic video by the way (no ... for real! Really is)
Don't buy it!! I broke the tip within 15 seconds doing a tip test ... go with Ontario , glck knife or Ka-Bar this one is P.O.S. looks cool but broke the same day I got it
So. You DELIBERATELY tried to break the tip on your knife, and you succeeded. Doesn't mean CS makes bad knives, just that morons like you buy them and break them.
Watch this before bla bla …
Superior to the KaBar in many ways! Except nostalgia...
Haha agreed 100%

It appears to be a very good Ka-Bar alternative. Thanks for sharing!
Yessir!
Really enjoy your reviews. I beat the pommel of my ka-bar on a board and the gaurd rattle went away. Might work for the leather kneck to

I have some older Mora knives. still going strong since the 1980s
Those laminated blades were great
Mine came blunt out of the box and had it professionally sharpened by a local blade smith now it's razor sharp.
Check out for Glock FM 78 or 81 as cheap alternative … ah, and send this one to test it out to Joe X 😉🍻

Are kabars? like this
why GSM took off the brand on the handle, anyone knows?
I have the leatherneck
And i'm happy😍
Prefer the tanto unless that partial back edge was sharp then maybe.
Why is there no inscription on the handle?
I bought the same one on Amazon and it doesn't have the brand name on any other handles but now it has it engraved on the case.
I like that opinel.
Me too! Cool blade huh?
To late I just bought one. But I haven’t saw this yet 😃🤙🏻
Does anyone know why they removed the “Cold Steel” inscription on the handle ?
I didn't notice that was missing on the one in the video mine has it and my guard is extremely tight it doesn't move at all
The less branding the better. It's a great knife, no need to jizz all over it with brand names..
Надписът е останал в Китай.

Just got a new one, from amazon. My handle is branded.
Just got mine from MidwayUSA and it’s got the brand on both sides
I'm watching this AFTER I bought a Leatherneck...cause I'm an outlaw!
No you're not, you're a law abiding citizen.
The blade on this knife closely resembles the SRK's. The handle is the maid difference. More KaBar-esque...
D2 is a bit brittle for the SRK
I think that’s a totally fair opinion
Do kabars have loose gaurd rattle like these??
Yes after some usage
Ontario is K Bar
Kray-Ex, not Griv-Ex Handle. :-) Good Video. :-)

the 1917 guard his not welded !
I liked mine so much I bought one for all my friends.

This type of handle with the "Stacked Leather" look require use of gloves for extended or heavy usage. Why use this type?
Too late!!!
Hahhahahah
Same thing. I really hope that the guard wont be loose out of the box
And... it is loose fresh out of the box. I am not pleased with it and would not recommend

Tanto, not tonto.
