The edge is dulled by by the glass fibers inside the plastic sheath, and not because of the blade hardness. Some Securex sheath do not have glass fibers in the plastic but this one does. I have some very hard knives that have been dulled by glass reinforced plastic sheaths. Draw the blade keeping the back against the sheath works for this knife as the edge won’t dull unless it contacts the sheath. Some sheaths don’t have enough space and the edge gets dulled no matter how you draw it. Mora and Glock do not put glass fibers in their plastic sheaths, I wish Cold Steel and CRKT would stop with the glass filled plastic sheaths. They make it necessary to sharpen the edge every time you sheath and unsheath the knife, and for a blade used in self defense dulling the edge is a critical flaw in the sheath design. My older CS Securex sheaths do not have glass fibers. I have a diving knife that I was able to put a layer of epoxy in the sheath that stopped the problem, but this only works if there is enough room. I have tried to scrape the fibers away with a narrow file, but that does not work, they are too embedded in the plastic.
I'm thinking about taking the black off the bevel of mine.. but leaving it on the rest of the blade and changing out the scales to some African black wood my friend has laying around . I've had mine prolly...8 ? years something like that and barely have any flaking of the black from the tip . One of best knives I have ever owned..
I love this knife ! , Been abusing the 1095 version for years now . This knife , and the KaBar USMC utility knife , are my two outdoor knives , very pleased with both .
Yup, it’s a damn good knife! If you want a knife you can shave with, it’s called a razor and it lives in a nice warm dry box in the bathroom usually. If I ever need a knife I am gonna depend my life on this thing is worth its weight in gold! Bro says it’s not a good thrower, even if you throw this at someone and the blunt end hits them your well on your way to a 1st prize! lol
Oh, I love my cold steel G.I.! I heard you repeat some of the same things over and over throughout the video. But I did not really hear you talking about the knife you talked about what you would modify about the knife. Also, you never mentioned what the notch at the bottom of the blade is for right above the handles
Hi, bro! New edition and the all one are both going well..I bought it, when I was disappointed with the Recon Tanto. GI is much more strong and its more brutal, but for THAT PRICE its just great. My advice: dont modify it. Better take a car spring and do it better. Its not so rare shape - same structure is on ZT 0620 EMERSON. NICE BLADE FOR NICE PEOPLE!👍 New blades are similar to the old. The only minus is too hard to sharpen - its 64 HRS.
Hi Matt. I have been looking at those for awhile to leave in my wife's car for emergency. I do have a CS spetnaz shovel in her car along with a few cheap knives but nothing as capable as the GI Tanto. Thanks for another great video. Thanks
I had one years ago. I even used it to cut a bed mattress open to get the Steel frame to scrap for cash. I sold it, but now I want to buy another one. I want to use it for jobs away from home. I am also going to buy a Medium Warcraft Tanto in 4034 for home defense as well. Anyway, the GI Tanto is a good, low cost knife for various jobs.
@@MattRoseKnives Got my Cold Steel GI Tanto and 2 Torpedoes Sunday. Once I got my GI Tanto in my hand, it was like old hat again! Compared to my Cold Steel Drop Forged Survivalist 1st edition (another great Cold Steel knife), it is lighter and livelier in my hand. I see many years of use in my future with this knife. I do enjoy your views and reviews of Cold Steel knives and tools. Take care!
This sucker went clean through 56 layers of cardboard with one clean thrust. I carry a Springfield XD-40 Tactical andca ruger sp101 in the woods. If for some reason i lose my guns or cant get to them during a bear attack i think this baby can go clean through the bear's juggular and take it down. Its also a good knife for battoning wood and other things. Its indestructible
I’m not sure I’d call it “good” more adequate. It could do all that. But if you’re looking for a blade that would be good at that in a similar price range, I would go with the SRK
I don’t know I’d use the term high quality when talking about cold steel. Do you get a little more then you pay for. Yes! But not high quality. Lol it’s a decent blade for the price point.
😎👍 It’s always been on my radar for customizing but never bought one? What do you think of new cs RazorTek line up? They look pricey for materials used. Maybe on sale? ✌️🤟🤙
Pick one up! You can’t beat it for the price. Yeah I’m not super stoked on the RazorTek. It’s too expensive now, if the price cuts… maybe in half? Then I’d consider it. That gimping on the top looks like a MAJOR hotspot though 🧐

Awesome!
How do u know which one is 1095 and 1055? Asking cause I just bought one from a pawn shop for $10.
The older ones were 1095 , the new ones are 1055 . Dont know why the change , but you will get good use from either one . @@outdoorsaddiction1085
I love them for splitting wood. An inexpensive froe. Still damn cool on their own
I love this knife. I have two. I really love them as one of my favorite throwing knives
I just bought one today. On offer, paid £37 for it Nov 2022. Looking forward to talking it for a spin… 😊
Awesome!
Do you love it? Imo it's sweet.

I put talon grips on the handles of mine it dose the job.
👍
LOVE my G I Tanto! Not just a good knife for the money, it's a plain ole GOOD KNIFE!!! Great video too btw...
Oh, sharpened the swedge on mine... Just cause I could !
Awesome! And thanks!
It's tanto, not tonto. Tonto is the lone rangers side kick. Lynn Thompson pronounces it tanto as well.
Bought it for my combat rigg. Haven't had to use it and hope I never will. I am pretty sure it will do the job if need be. Thanks for the review!
Good choice!
what is a combat rigg?

It’s perfect for that! You won’t miss it, but you’ll sure appreciate it when you need it
I realy wish they made a drop point or bowie style of this line. You can mod it into a bowie.
Same! But you could get there with some modding as you said
Around $60 in the UK.
Yikes 😬
Maybe they read this! The price fluctuates from the UK distributor. Is now lower for now. Around $45 Sept '22.
Around $75 in New Zealand
Usd 34 in Malaysia

Not bad on the price, I would buy it
How about a 4-5 inches cutting edge GI tanto?
That’d be pretty cool!

"bears jugular".....Jesus you're a dork 😅
Love this knife but hate the handle, wish there was replaceable g10 scales
Fair!
I hate coils, its a waste of space. At least make it in the handle, as in 4Max(scout).
Are these good for campsite stuff like splitting smaller wood pieces for a fire?

Same!

Yikes 😝
Prepaidmind101 just broke the tip off on his within the first few mins
@@tmcm8159it wasn’t even 20 seconds in lol. Snapped like a twig. The new GSM ones with the laser engraving are lower quality
They created this knife, to troll Mickey Ray Burger, aka Mick Strider.
Excellent bang for buck!
Agreed!
How do you like the printing that is on all the GSM made compared to the old school stamping?
Prefer the old… but don’t mind the new!
Had this knife for 30 min before the tip broke off
Yikes! Though it's not terribly surprising, the tip is quite thin.
@Rick how did you break the tip of this type of knife off?
