I had been making these out of just quikrete mix (and boy are they heavy!!), until today... Thank you for the delightful video. I'm off to buy some Portland cement 😀🍁🌲👍
I made my first pot in 2001. It’s still in fantastic condition. I made an African-looking mask. It’s still doing well. Looks great in the yard over 20yrs later.
For the people who are reading this comment, use gloves for this project. Cement or concrete is very caustic to the skin and you might also want to think about wearing a mask because there's lots of dust from the concrete involved and it is also toxic.
I wish I could give your comment 100 thumbs up. Cement is very alkaline and will damage your skin. It can be counter acted by a vinegar wash, but just avoid it entirely by wearing gloves. I also wear an n95 mask and glasses when I mix with peat.
Hi Maybe a couple of pebbles with the slate? Contrasting the angular form of the slate with he softly curved pebbles🤔🙂 Just a thought... Thanks for an inspirational video, I'm definitely going to make a trough for some succulents / cacti / aeoniums, whatever I think of... Well done my antipodean friend, from England😊
Very good Tanya, took me 4-5 rewinds to figure out what the first ingredient is that you were referring to. My Yankee ears kept hearing "Samsameet"... I finally realized that you were saying "Some cement" with your Down Under voice 🤣😂😅! Anyway, what I really want to know is Where did you get those 3 hanging nude sculptures to the right of your window? They are fantastic and look like they were also created with a "Samsameet" mixture. I want them!!! 😁
Great video!! Is there a way to calculate how much; 1part, 1part, 1part of the ingredients you need for what sized container? I don't want to make a huge load of the mix and have too much left, as well as not making enough to fill my designated mold.
it's easy for a regular shaped container like these. Total area of sides+ends+base x thickness, ie 2 20*10cm sides, 2 10*10cm ends + 20*10 base = 800 sq cms, times 3cm thickness = 2400 cubic cm, or 2.4 litres, so 1:1:1 would be 800ml of each.
actually, drainage holes should be put into the sides, about 1 -2 inches from the bottom... holes in the bottom leak water out instantly without making the soil wet for the plants.
You also need to hose them off with lots of water to remove the toxic elements still embedded in the hypertufa (if not, your plants will likely die) And for goodness sake, please wear gloves & a mask!
Nice Video! But you should have worn gloves as cement is really harmful for your skin and can cause severe diseases. So if people who watched your video try it by themselfes you should mention that. Besides that many thanks for the video :)
LOVE!! And I just found you. Following snd subscribing. At about 5:30 in this video you had some female figurines hanging on wall behind you. I would love to have forms like those. Can you share where you got them?
Really lovely planters, thank you. But I think you need to rinse +++ and neutralise the alkalinity before filling with plants? Plus gloves PLEASE, and a mask when mixing the dry cement

Love these. Thanks so much for showing us how to do it.
You are so welcome!

Don't you need to let them Cure a few weeks before you put your plants in them?
where is the one with the leaf you put in the side
Beautiful it is!!!
Oh I love this. Thanks
I love the results! Tanya what type of oil you use? It looked easy to remove the pots. Thank you!

Can’t wait to get started! Do squirrels eat succulents? Something ate mine in my tree stumps
beautiful.

include SAFETY items PLEASE!!!!! Mask, gloves, goggles. Portland is nast stuff!
Don't you have to wait 2 to 4 weeks before you plant them?

Hi Tanya, so informative, great workshop. Can I use perlite instead of vermiculite.? Thanks
Yes, but the white will be visible in your end result

Hey, I think I can do it. Thanks!

Instead of vermiculite, can I substitute with crush glass instead? Tks
Will quickcrete suffice for the cement? Thank you for the awesome video!
Yes :)
How do you inlay tile in a hypertufa planter?
Can you place these pots outdoors? Will it not crack with rain and sun?
I had the same question.
Really lovely planters, thank you. But I think you need to rinse +++ and neutralise the alkalinity before filling with plants? Plus gloves PLEASE, and a mask when mixing the dry cement
Yes gloves and face mask is important always
Can I use coco peat instead of pear moss?
yes.
@@willowbeederouaux4750 thank you
Do you use a Kwik set cement?
Did you miss a step, balancing the ph cause hypertufa is exceedingly alkaline? Or do succulents like heavy alkaline soil.
It would be nice to add feet to these pots also
So much bad advice here. Advise watching other videos.
