I just found your channel, you make such beautiful pots, thank you so very much for sharing this, God Bless you and yours. , I am going to try to find some more of your videos they are just totally beautiful !!!!
Hi from Tennessee. I get a kick of your accent. My stepmom is a wonderful gal from New Holstein. I have wanted to make some containers for my zen garden, and these are perfect. Thank you!
I love watching you do the hypertufa bowls I have done the towel after I saw the video on then as I am going to try this to thank you so very much-needed
Thank you Gina, I look forward to seeing you. You may want to visit our Dairy State Cheese factory and the Rudolph Grotto both wonderful places to visit also. Diane
The pots are beautiful. I want to try this! But I'm not sure of the ratios. At the beginning it said 1 part Portland Cement, to 1 1/2 part vermiculite and 1 1/2 part peat moss. That's not the same ratio you actually used, which was 3 quarts, 4 quarts and 4 quarts. Right? I think I'm going to follow what you used...
thank you so much for the great detailed instructions, my first try to make the hypertufa planters was a fail :( I used the wrong type of cement. thnx for sharing
I love the idea of light weight concrete planters but I'm curious why you cant use this mixture the same way you use traditional concrete mix and flip pot over and add mix over the top to mold your pot. Does it not stick together like regular concrete mix? Thanks
We make hypertufa planter and draped hypertufa's they both have similar ingrediencies but the consistency of the mixture is different. Hypertufa planters have a brownie consistency and the draped hypertufa's have a gravy consistency. Does that help you.
You could you regular concrete mix, most concrete mixes need to be 4" thick. She's adding binding agent since it's less than 2" thick wall. I've made planter boxes with regular premixed concrete... it was really heavy. I'm watching this, looking for ideas on making it not as heavy.
The one I currently have is AKKRO-7T liquid bonding admixture it comes in 1 gallon containers and is white in color. . I get this at our local cement place. I have also gotten a bonding admixture or bonding adhesive at Menards or home depo in their cement isle. Thank You
I have never done a bonsai so I'm not sure what kind of containers they use. I would google bonsai and hypertufa and see what comes up. Thank you Diane
Yash Sultania I've made a few bonsai pots using this method. I place small wooden dowels in the bottom for drainage holes (remove them after a day of drying).
Excellent info, Diane! We're recommending this in our July batch of curated videos. We love the draped hypertufa video, too. mailchi.mp/54f3e33005db/new-videos-for-july?e=3b9d372a54
I sometimes use white Portland cement. If you want to try other material I would keep the ratio the same. Trying different materials would be fun so go ahead... I have found what works for me, but experiment if you like. Diane
I’ve watched lots of hypertufa videos and yours is by far the best! Thank you!

Great video! When the pot is curing for 2 weeks, should it be covered in plastic?
No, it should just be in a shady spot.
Thanks Diane
What are you calling bonding adhesive? Great video!

what brand of liquid cement hardener do you use? Thank you.
It is called bonding adhesive or bonding admixture.
Diane Urbans
Should the planters be kept moist during the 2 weeks of curing?
It should be kept out of the sun, and yes you could mist it during the 2 week period.
Thank you
Diane Urbans
Can we use sand instead of macalite
Do you mean vermiculite? I'm not sure if sand could be a substitute , but you could try it.
Thank You Diane
Yes, sand could be use. Sand will add weight to the pot.
Will this wok for bonsai as a pot
I have
never done a bonsai so I'm not sure what kind of containers they use. I

Can we use cocopeat instead of peat moss?
Also can we use white cement?
What should be the ratio then!
I sometimes use white Portland cement. If you want to try other material I
would keep the ratio the same. Trying different materials would be fun
