- Cabinets of Curiosities have always fascinated me. Their existence and history tell a lot about humanity, but owning one yourself can be really quite expensive. So, let's make a Cabinet of Curiosities of our own... on a budget!

What an awesome find I love cabinets of curiosities! Have you ever heard of Spar Cabinets? When miners would find interesting minerals and crystals underground, they'd bring them home and glue all of them into small cabinets like this then they would place a candle inside so the light would reflect off of all the crystals!💜
Oeeh that sounds so cool!
that is awesome
Great score on the cabinet! It's nice to gather things you already have. That way your cabinet contents have meaning.
also, it was used before museums etc
You could put some LED strip lighting inside the cabinet so you can see the contents at night!
I like the way you speak, kind of cute!,by the way that cabinet looks nice to put small collections.
Thank you! ❤️
The cabinet was a bargain for 7.50
Oh yeah you should've seen my face when I found it! It's one of those vintage finds that you will cherish forever
It cost 25 dollar new in 1980 seattle
So cool! You inspire me to want to make one
Good luck! It's so fun to do
If it had been a smokers cabinet you'd smell it, and you'd need special cleaners to make it go away, if it ever did actually go away without refinishing or a couple of clear coats, but just old dusty stuff can have a dirty brown film
Good to know! Thanks!
@@anemonenova8694 you are adorable and I am a new sub btw!
Yayyy, now I know what to do with all the random crap I collected as a kid (i found dead butterflies in jars??) but don't exactly want to part with. thanks :))
Right?!?! That's exactly what I thought as well when I found out about these things
I feel like drying the plants would be a better option, I am not sure how they wouldn't spoil after some time fermented in the water. :)
Yes I definitely agree! The plants are now very very dead indeed... certainly a learning point haha!
@@anemonenova8694 Clear high proof alcohol is what many old specimens are in. Rubbing alcohol is also a good option. Some are in Formaldehyde but that's far more toxic and hard to get ahold of these days. Resin is another modern option for the wet look.
@@anemonenova8694maybe u could salvage some, incorporate them into something..
Nicely done, and on a budget. I want to put one together for Halloween next year. 💀Thankyou for sharing.
Good luck with making yours!
Beautiful cabinet! I have one question, how did the plants in water turned out? As of today?
They are currently still intact but completely transparent. Very fascinating!
👏👏👏
I have a similar cabinet.
Have you found the secret room?
Secret room??
Yes, the cabinet has a secret room.
