A frightening example of how something you make can be warped and perverted and completely misunderstood if it falls into the wrong hands, usually because they have money and you don't.
Watching this seriously upsets me. I really love the look of Tak and the style of certain parts of the movie; like the chase scene and how they use the nails in his mouth to show of facial expression instead of just showing him smiling. Jared Knight There have been attempts a good one so far where someone has tried to restore the original footage and footage cut from the idiot film company. Its actually pretty better then this monstrosity
12:47 Can we all take a moment to appreciate the fact that Tack must be RIPPED in order to hold himself up like that? Especially considering the ball and chain weighing him down? We saw in the earlier shot that that grate was pretty high up. This guy must have an insane gym regiment.
See, the published version of this film forgets one thing that the recobbled edit brought back: *SILENCE IS GOLDEN* In the recobbled version, I found Tack to be more fun and enjoyable, with him being mute creating a Charlie Chaplin-esque feel, while giving him a voice made him transition into what felt like two different people: the Charlie Chaplin and the guy Matthew Broderick was trying to portray. And the scene with the head tilting between him and Princess Yumyum, their lack of any vocal expression made the moment more innocent and adorable, while this version just made them seem like they were trying too hard.
First of the original cut was much better than Miramax's version truth me. Second did anyone notice that he just maded a Dragonball Z joke at 17:23 that was both funny and a nice reference.
Even if the recobbled cut didn't quite have the best plot, my god is it beautiful. Certainly something for people like me who enjoy artsy things like what it was originally intended to be.
Having sen the Recobbled Cut, yeah I can agree it's a massive improvement. Though I'm still not absolutely certain it's a great film or a great story, it is some of the best and most stylish animation I've ever seen. I guess I see it as more 'Culturally Significant' to the history of animation, than genuinely good. Kinda like the english release of Akira.
I don't know, I think most folks will agree that Akira the dub is a pretty good adaption and movie, as compared to Thief and the Cobbler, which is just good in the animation department.
Pretty much. The original creator wanted a magnum opus for his animation skills from what I heard and read, so I suppose it's kind of hard to compare the two films by that thought.
I have it and I stand by my comment. If we're talking subs, then that'll be better, but back to the original comparison, I say Akira cannot really be compared to Thief and the Cobbler in terms of badness. 80s dubbing might not be e'rryone's cup o' tea, but it was still a pretty solid, if not weird as feces movie.
I really like Tack's design. I consider it adorable. Until he got tanned skin. Not that I didn't like that change, it makes more sense than keeping him pale. And he is much, MUCH better when he's mute.
It really is a shame that this movie got fucked up so badly. The animation looks spectacular, it could have been an amazing film. Also, I can't imagine how frustrated the original creator was when he saw the shit show that had become of his planned masterpiece.
I know, right? So cool! There are a lot of parts in the Miramax version that don't even make any sense until you watch the recobbled cut. REALLY wish they would have kept the part with the witch...
I can't remember which version it was I saw years ago, but it included a scene that wasn't in this version. It's when the thief will get his hands cut off but he uses he backscratchers instead. It was a version with no dialogue, unless there's only one non-dialogue version, in which case the end of this video answered my question.
I have not watched the video yet. I have every expectation that this will be about a man and his quest to retrieve a delicious fruit based desert from a burglar. Please universe, you owe me one.
I JUST watched a restoration of Richard Williams' version of this movie, before it was bent over and thoroughly anally destroyed by whoever took over and kicked him off the project. Now, it does have scenes which are little more than pencil drawn pictures or CLEARLY undone animated bits, the quality changes from gorgeous to gore at the drop of a pin, but if you can look back the bits that Richard Williams' had not finished, or at least enjoy it with an open mind, then you'll see that The Thief and the Cobbler truly is an outstanding flick. They don't rely on voices to tell you everything that's going on at every single moment, there's pretty much NOTHING in here that had me rolling my eyes and going "Well, seen this before...", it's an insane and insanely original movie. Truly is horrible that THIS is what they did to it... Well of course there's a lot of it that was ripped from this and put into Aladdin which was an amazing movie as well, but considering the time at which it was SUPPOSED to be released, it's thoroughly original. That crap about the Princess wanting a new life, the ongoing inner thoughts of the Cobbler as well as the Thief, those aren't present. The movie relies more on visuals than on audio, and considering the quality of the visuals (during all the parts where the visuals are fully finished/coloured), the outcome is remarkable. Oh, and did I mention?... THERE'S BASICALLY NO SINGING WHATSOEVER! Sure the geni- I mean, ZigZag, rhymes all his lines, but it's really not as annoying as you might think. In fact I think there's a part or two in which he doesn't rhyme, unless I just didn't follow it correctly. God, that bit where the monologue of the Thief taking the balls referencing a 'rec room' and 'Disney land'? Just... forget EVERYTHING you seen in this vid, go download the RESTORED version, and be amazed how a gen incrusted pearl can be turned into a rotten peanut incrusted turd. Seriously, the original is worth a watch. This 'official release', however... is worth forgetting. Edit: 16:00 Yeah, I started noticing the change in skin colour at the end of the movie when he basically goes all-out Arabian. Quite a dark tan. Something I'd like to bring up however is a couple things in the movie that I didn't much like. You know those purple guys carrying around the chest? They're black in the movie, and with large reddish lips as I recall, basically blackface. Then for the Thief, you know, the snakey, smelly, fly-ridden, big-nosed character? The one who is practically taken from Nazi propaganda posters? The top of his had looks like a star of David, and it's shown a few times in the original. Then there's a scene where the Sultan yells that they're 'doomed' or will be 'destroyed' which brings the camera up high over the Sultan looking down at JUST the right moment when he's saying the word so you can see all the Star of David like marks on the floor. Seriously, it's just about PERFECTLY on cue with saying doomed/destroyed or whatever the word was. I'm think that mid 60s Richard Williams was something of a racist/anti-Semite... that, and/or America was just accepting of such things back then, which isn't an entirely ridiculous thing to think about. In fact, you know the movie Night of the Living Dead? The 1968 classic by George A Romero, the GOD of zombies, he who created the modern day decaying/slow/shammbling/bite-infecting/brainless masses of rotten flesh that can only be destroyed via the brain? A review was written about that movie, and it noted how strange it was that the main character was black. Generally he was referred to, not by his character's name, not by his actor's name, but simply as "the negro". So yeah, the 60s were a VERY different time. Political correctness CAN go too far, but a complete lack there of is even worse. Ah, did I mention that not only does the Princess/Cobbler never sing, but also, the Brigains never sing either? Nope! No pointless songs! I recall the witch's advice to also be not quite so bland, in fact just about the entire section in which she's on screen is a mixture of hilarious insanity and somewhat uncomfortable animation. The swinging saggy tits in particular. The rest is pretty awesome though. As for the huge war machine being taken down with a single tack, the process is FASCINATING! Oh yeah, and although the Thief is essentially hand made to be put into an anti-Jewish WWII era German cartoon, he DOES end up being a good guy at the end, so that's a plus. Ah, he mensions the Recobbled edition in the end, I really should finish watching videos before starting a comment, while commenting as I watch the vid. Anyways, he might not think it's fantastic, but I think it is. Very pleasant movie, even though some parts are, as mentioned/shown, unfinished.
+NormanMatchem This is the pattern in the sultan's palace and on the thief's hat: www.hoover.archives.gov/LIW/countingbook/images/starpattern.jpg This is the star of David: image.freepik.com/free-icon/star-of-david-outline-variant_318-49613.png Sure the 60s were a different time, but I think you're reading into it a bit much with the antisemitism. After all, the Thief didn't have nearly as big a nose as King Nod or half the other characters.
I did not know people hated this movie so much. I know that humor is incredibly subjective, but the thief is absolutely hilarious to me. In my mind, he, price, and the animation make this movie for me. I loved this movie as a kid, it was one of the ones that my whole family could agree to watch when we were bored. but, if it didn't synch with you, I guess it could only be annoying, I guess. amen to the songs, though
What happened to this project is a tragedy. Disney ended up purchasing the rights, half-assed the rest of the movie, added songs (which was not the original vision of Richard Williams), and then sent it straight to Video--but not before stealing the storys premise and making a best seller out of Aladdin. I suggest watching the actual history behind it and not this annoying review. Then go watch The Thief and The Cobbler: Recobbled (an artistic attempt to re-create Williams original vision).
Agreement. The Critic, I think, is quite correct in what he says about the Miramax version, but he's kinda selling the Recobbled Cut short - I absolutely adored it. It's just fantastic.
I love it everytime when Rob Walker as Vincent Price says "I know everything you're going to say" the way he says it makes him sound like a Bond villain.
Correction, the Genie and Jafar are rip-offs of the villain in this film. There was an entire monologue at the beginning of the review about how the film was in production since 1964 and it was being made BEFORE Aladdin.
people keep liking this damned comment I made but the fact remains that I was misinformed and that really Disney is to blame for character design theft (which is not new but absolutely hilarious).
Critic makes a good point about Princess Yum Yum. She claims she is faster and smarter than anyone else in the whole city, but I don't buy it. I'm not saying she isn't potentially capable of being those things, only that there are no examples of it as far as I can tell. Not only that, but I think it's pretty dumb to have servants carry you the whole way on your journey even though you're trying to seem inconspicuous and undercover. Also they would only be slowed down by having to carry her around the whole way. So if you think about it she is actively doing something dumb that is only serving to slow her and everyone else with her down.
I just want to say that Tack's design is precious. I think the entire design of the film is brilliant; it is just so sad to me that Miramax destroyed Williams' work. After all his effort to bring this to life, they ruined it. I can't even imagine the pain knowing somebody destroyed a work that I poured everything I had into. Please, everybody watching this video, go check out the recobbled cut, it's absolutely stunning! Williams' passion deserves to be admired!
I think this movie redefines the term "stuck in development hell." Unfortunately, it also had the same result as every movie ever stuck in development hell; It was terrible.
I'm glad you pointed out the quality of animation in the original (Recobbled) cut. They were used as prime examples of good animation in my animation class.
They need to finish this. If they can complete Ray Harryhausen's unfinished "Tortoise And The Hare",if George Lucas can put Jabba The Hutt in footage he shot twenty years before,if they can finally do Disney and Dali's "Destino"...they *can* finish *this!*
I first saw this movie as the unfinished version. As an animation student, I really loved the scenery, and all the work that went into the characters and objects. I loved how Tac and the Thief didn't talk. Especially the Thief. He was far more hilarious just with his actions alone. Then I saw this version....after I bounced off the walls in screaming fits of rage, I went into a corner and sobbed. Yes people, this movie was fucked up that badly!
This is a very elegantly thought out piece of animation--the original, anyway. The practical use of filling Tack's mouth with tacks was not simply to give him a sudden way to defeat the enemy at the end (I don't even think that was part of the original script)--it was to give him an excuse for rarely if ever speaking in the film--his mouth is occupied. As obvious as this might sound, it's worth pointing out that this is to symbolize his status in the hierarchy of the story, a story which was originally meant to be told almost entirely in images, like the earliest animated films in history were. Tack's voice, his opinion, has no worth in this society because of his servitude. This is relieved of course, when he marries Yum Yum. But the people who "finished" the movie didn't get it. That's why he's got SO much monologue--it was to fill his non speaking appearances for the adults who are terrified children won't be able to follow a story that doesn't directly talk to them. Same for the thief. Same for why there needs to be singing. I really hope someone out there attempts to try something like this again--a play on the fairy tale genre that is more invented than copied, and doesn't care if it looks weird or not.
Just remember that this film was produced before the advent of computer animation. So most, if not all, of the 3D animation in this film was done BY HAND.
trequor actually if you did research, other M of metriod was a continuation of a manga of samus with that personality, so it was never butchered if it isnt in the same universe of continuity. the other metriod games are their own series in a term, while metriod other M is from the magna thats name i cant remember is the reason it was the way it was.
linkfan x Well no wonder it was shit and that just means that the manga butchered her character. Yipee. And also, if you going to try and sound intellectual at least check your spelling for fuck sakes
the last time i saw this version i was in elementary school. I've been watching the Recobbled Cut since high school. Thank you, NC for making me remember all those tedious musical numbers.
Well, Yum-Yum does kinda do shit... but only in the non-Miramax version. Which just goes to show you the horrible depth of the Macekre inflicted on this poor film - especially given the fact that ALADDIN WAS PRETTY MUCH BASED ON IT!
If anyone's curious, the Recobbled Cut is being actively developed, and is tiptoing towards a complete picture of Richard Williams' vision. The source files are, wherever possible, being scanned at 4K resolution, with an eye to being ready for a theatrical release if one ever becomes possible. It's some of the greatest animation ever made--you owe it to yourselves to check it out.
The first time I watched this was when I had a really bad stomach bug and I couldn't keep anything down. So when I stopped gagging, I sat down to watch this (after the very first review I ever watched of his, Eight Crazy Nights) and the "I Heart Love" skit was the moment I realized I had found my favorite UA-camr.
You reviewed the wrong version of The Theif and the Cobbler. The version I watched did not feature the princess singing. Also, in my version neither the theif nor the cobbler are voiced (except for the cobbler, saying "I love you" at the end of the film). And for the record, I loved Zig Zag's rhymes.
Rembrandt Dassen No. this was my original user name. If it's any of your buisness I am shit with coming up with names and at the time my black lab was sitting next to me when I was coming up with the name.
AgentVissen Anything with Vincent Price is a work of art in itself. Sometimes it's stunning like the art of the old time painters, sometimes it's meh and only is famous because of the name attached.
I'm really glad the critic talked about the history that this film had. And how this film is not an Aladdin ripoff. Also, I willing to bet the casting of Jonathan Winters went like this, "Okay, so Aladdin had that Robin Williams guys let's get him for the picture." "Um, Sir, we'll be seen as nothing but a ripoff if we hire him." "What? Oh, okay. Well who else could we get." "Well, Jonathan Winters is free and he was in Mork & Mindy with Williams." "Perfect! Get him."
The Unedited version without the Aladdin-style song breaks is a masterpiece and should be in the Criterion for its art style. The other ones...feels like it's trying too hard to be another Aladdin copy.
I don't care about the cookie-cutter princess! I don't care about the uninspired songs and the generic villain!! I could even bring myself to bear those awful interior monologues and the painful dialogue sequences!!! THAT COBBLER IS SO! FRACKING! CUTE! I! CAN'T! HANDLE! IT! BRRG! MMFPH! PPHMMF! *adorableness overload*
Oh my god, when Doug's head spun all the way around the last time fucking soda came out of my nose because I laughed so hard. I was not expecting that.
I like it that the princess ("yumyum ? really??) in the beginning dreams of being more than just pretty and well, a generic princess ... and in tehend she doesn't seem to do anythign of importance and reaches the height of her happiness by marrying that weird Morlok-nerd-guy ... because only marriage makes girls truly happy and fullfilled? Hurrah! I mean harruh...
*ring* Critic: Hello? Price: Critic, i knew that you would blow me off after that last phone call, so i set a time bomb in your house before it was built. Clever me. but don't worry, it's set to go off in exactly 50 seconds. You'd better run big boy. Critic: Irememberitsoyoudon'thaveto! O.O Price: One, two, skip-a-few, fifty. "BOOM" Price: Oh i love it when i'm nasty!
It is his magnum opus. The animation is so, so beautiful. What the studios did to it is heinous, but the original (even unfinished), far outshines it. For the best experience, I'd recommend the Recobbled cut, like others have said.
TheMuffinBurgler Agreed....though the Theif kind of killed some of it for me....He just felt sort of out of place, yet in place at the same time. I know he plays a major role, but I just felt like the dated jokes and the slapstick humor was kind of off to me :P oh well.
I remeber this movie as a kid and loved it because I DID NOT KNOW ANY BETTER! Now that I'm older, I can see yes it's a crap movie but the animation/art especially that chase scene are very unique surreal and nicely done.
"This cacophony of cack you've paraded over my fierce elucidations strikes me with humiliation and discomfort." That's quite the accurate Price impersonation.
The reason Zigzag speaks all in rhymes is because in the original film he was one of the only ones to actually have dialogue, making it more whimsical.
"One, two, skip a few, fifty"
Oh god, I haven't laughed this much in a while.
I used to do that all the time in elementary school when playing hide-and-seek. What can I say? Staring at a wall and counting to a hundred is boring for a six year old with a very short attention span.
"I love it when I'm nasty" kept me laughing for a good long while. XD
I feel like they could have just called the three golden balls "orbs" instead to avoid dumb jokes.
My thoughts at 13:10
Ok... not comfortable with the way he's touching that poll...
Darn it! Now he's pulling the balls off the rod!
God dammit! They made this to easy!
And he's holding them between his legs, too! Fuck!
Colin Parlett But at least we get DBZ jokes!
"I'm going to Disneyland."
I seriously thought the Critic was saying that as a joke. GOD DAMN what a stupid joke. It doesn't even make sense!
Everyone needs to see the recobbled version. The way they ruined this man's entire life's work is tragic and cruel. it's unbelievable, what they did to it. So sad.
Chris Toro
No, that's the only thing enjoyable about this movie
patronsaintofpoison its enjoyable but its not the only thing i saw this on netflix and it was better than that frozen bullshit
Okay seriously, it's almost 2015, stop bashing Frozen. It's good in my opinion and just let it go. I didn't mean to Make that pun.
Tanapoom Yamsakul It's by no means a bad film, but I think it's really overrated.
I can't unsee it. Zig Zag looks like a Genie/Jafar fusion.
Watching this seriously upsets me. I really love the look of Tak and the style of certain parts of the movie; like the chase scene and how they use the nails in his mouth to show of facial expression instead of just showing him smiling. Homer Simpson: "WOO-HOO!!"
NC: "...but sadly, someone decided to put a microphone in his brain."
Homer Simpson: "D'oh!"
However, in the original cut he does not speak.
What a waste of such beautiful animation.
Took...somewhat 30 years...?

Even in his good movies I can find that he's kind of bland
CaliberStone Again, NC refers to the re-cobbled cut.
CaliberStone thank miramax for fucking up this masterpiece but thankfully theres the recobbled edition to enjoy
Only role he was able to make work was Ferris Bueller.
yup, how bout simba?
Zigzag is the guy you get when Jafaar and the Genie have a love child and the Genie was allowed to pick the name.
Zigzag is basically Jafaar and Genie's father. XD
I don't know why it took me so long to realize the Cobbler is voiced by the same guy who voiced Simba from the Lion king.
so if Aladdin ripped this off, only to have this rip Aladdin off, does that mean technically this movie ripped itself off?
Animated inbreeding my friend....animated inbreeding.
+TheRubeDude Technically, Aladdin ripped off Richard Williams' development hell version, while the Miramax version ripped off Aladdin.
Damn. I'm so glad that I watched the Recobbled cut.

+Panthera I thought I was the only one thinking that!!
It really is a shame that this movie got fucked up so badly. The animation looks spectacular, it could have been an amazing film. Also, I can't imagine how frustrated the original creator was when he saw the shit show that had become of his planned masterpiece.
The recobbled version of the movie (the original one, that is) is an absolute masterpiece...
I know, right? So cool! There are a lot of parts in the Miramax version that don't even make any sense until you watch the recobbled cut. REALLY wish they would have kept the part with the witch...
12:16 "Director: Tommy Wiseau"
XD
i pisssed my pants laughing lol
It would have been a lot worse if Wiseau was actually directing it though
SusanMcboot"Oh hai cobbler!"
Excellent.
I did not steal those balls, it is bullshit, IIII diiiid nooot!!!
I can't remember which version it was I saw years ago, but it included a scene that wasn't in this version. It's when the thief will get his hands cut off but he uses he backscratchers instead. It was a version with no dialogue, unless there's only one non-dialogue version, in which case the end of this video answered my question.
i think that was shown on the re-edited version
I have not watched the video yet. I have every expectation that this will be about a man and his quest to retrieve a delicious fruit based desert from a burglar. Please universe, you owe me one.
Universe, I am disappoint
Юлиан Бродняк I really would have liked it if there was a cobbler eating cobbler in this movie.
*****
very true my friend. *takes shot*
at this point I'm honestly impressed you keep finding me
sounds incredibly inefficient
it's such shame that we will never see this film truly complete.. It actually saddens the hell out of me.
You too? Have you seen the recobbled cut? It's quite better then the Miramax piece of crap. Best part of it is NO SINGING OR MONOLOGING!!!!!! ( : D
I mean, you gotta give it to Zig Zag. Trying to rhyme in every sentence without any pauses between words is harder than you think.
"sing with singiness"....you got me there
I JUST watched a restoration of Richard Williams' version of this movie, before it was bent over and thoroughly anally destroyed by whoever took over and kicked him off the project.
I think Zigzag only rhymes when he is in the presence of those with authority. Only to exaggerate his sycophantic and insidious nature.
+NormanMatchem This is the pattern in the sultan's palace and on the thief's hat: www.hoover.archives.gov/LIW/countingbook/images/starpattern.jpg
This is the star of David: image.freepik.com/free-icon/star-of-david-outline-variant_318-49613.png
Sure the 60s were a different time, but I think you're reading into it a bit much with the antisemitism. After all, the Thief didn't have nearly as big a nose as King Nod or half the other characters.
Movie production began in the year my dad was born. It was released the year I was born. Geez.
SurrealKeenan What was on your mind when you first saw the last part of this movie when the thief stole the film.
rafa bruce lachman I don't remember. That wasn't really a very significant part to me, sorry
SurrealKeenan I was very weird for me.
I didn't even know what to think XD
rafa bruce lachman I sort of took it in the same way as when the genie did the "made ya' look" thing at the end of aladdin.
The songs kind of sucked. But Matthew Broderick has an amazing voice, so I'll let it slide. I didnt pay much attention to the lyrics, just his voice~
14:08 I can't believe he didn't make a Monty Python joke ("Message for you, sir!").
Yes, a thousand times this.
Miramax, not Disney >_> not all animation is done by Disney ya know
Miramax was, at the point of acquisition, a subsidiary of Disney
Agreement. The Critic, I think, is quite correct in what he says about the Miramax version, but he's kinda selling the Recobbled Cut short - I absolutely adored it. It's just fantastic.
It DID show up in theaters--I remember seeing some ads for it under its Arabian Knight title. Of course, it vanished quickly.
To be fair, it was a lot of fish
I love it everytime when Rob Walker as Vincent Price says "I know everything you're going to say" the way he says it makes him sound like a Bond villain.
no one is pointing out how the bad guy looks like a genie clone....? its like the Genie and Jafar had an evil love child.
I think it's only an evil love child if both parent characters are evil, but you're right he looks really weird.
Genie is neither good nor evil :)
Correction, the Genie and Jafar are rip-offs of the villain in this film. There was an entire monologue at the beginning of the review about how the film was in production since 1964 and it was being made BEFORE Aladdin.
That doesn't mean jack shit when this movie was so god awful LOL
people keep liking this damned comment I made but the fact remains that I was misinformed and that really Disney is to blame for character design theft (which is not new but absolutely hilarious).
5:52 in the movie's defense, when people like each other they mirror each other's movements, so it kinda(?) shows they're falling in love
Did someone see the Tommy Wiseau thing on that "i heart love" song XD?

haai, who is dis XD

I think this movie redefines the term "stuck in development hell." Unfortunately, it also had the same result as every movie ever stuck in development hell; It was terrible.
Mad Max Fury Road is one of the rare exceptions I've ever seen to the production hell rule
Morgan Dakin Fury Road is just as stupid as all the other Mad Max movies.
I know. I love it!
Morgan Dakin I meant that in a bad way.
+Curtis Stokman I know you did. But I didn't
I'm glad you pointed out the quality of animation in the original (Recobbled) cut. They were used as prime examples of good animation in my animation class.
You know, it's kinda hard to watch the actual film considering on what happened to Williams' work, but thank goodness we have the recobbled cut.
They need to finish this.
If they can complete Ray Harryhausen's unfinished "Tortoise And The Hare",if George Lucas can put Jabba The Hutt in footage he shot twenty years before,if they can finally do Disney and Dali's "Destino"...they *can* finish *this!*
It's really such a shame they fired Williams, the movie would have been so much better if he was allowed to work on it. :(
I first saw this movie as the unfinished version.
I love how he says "I know everything you're going to say" the way he says it makes it sound like a Bond villain line.
The part with Vincent Price and the pumpkin was quite funny!
I am most pleased of NC's hated of Metroid: Other M.
The Baby...
It was just so bad compared to the other games... and it was physically painful how they butchered samus' character
trequor
actually if you did research, other M of metriod was a continuation of a manga of samus with that personality, so it was never butchered if it isnt in the same universe of continuity. the other metriod games are their own series in a term, while metriod other M is from the magna thats name i cant remember is the reason it was the way it was.
linkfan x Well no wonder it was shit and that just means that the manga butchered her character. Yipee. And also, if you going to try and sound intellectual at least check your spelling for fuck sakes
4:12
LMAO I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING OMG
the last time i saw this version i was in elementary school. I've been watching the Recobbled Cut since high school. Thank you, NC for making me remember all those tedious musical numbers.
So sad. The film had so much promise, and some of the most I Inpiring animation I've ever seen.
12:20
I bet Tommy Wisseau is like: "OOOOOO Oui, Oui, yeh du gud Huuuuuhhhh!!!!!"
When I first heard Matthew Broderick in the narration, my first thought was "..... Is that you, Simba?"
So, that Princess acts like Jasmine because Jasmine was based on this princess? 0-0 At least Jasmine does shit. YumYum just kinda....twirls around.
Well, Yum-Yum does kinda do shit... but only in the non-Miramax version. Which just goes to show you the horrible depth of the Macekre inflicted on this poor film - especially given the fact that ALADDIN WAS PRETTY MUCH BASED ON IT!
on the recobbled cut version she did do a few things.
Okay, but Doug's Vincent Price impression is hilarious.
"One, two, skip a few, fifty!"
2:34 " High atop it's tall ass tower, with three golden balls" looooll
Matthew Brodrick?
Didn't he also voice Simba in The Lion King?
Yes he did.
huh... cool
Yeah but not the singing voice. He's not that bad a voice actor in comparison to his acting in live action films. Still bland, yes, but not too bad.
Carmen Austins Yeah. He was also Ferris Beuler. go figure
Carmen Austins His adult form, yeah.
Im sure he needs more than that giant magic ball made of pure gold to afford a trip to Disneyland
I don't know why, but the Critic's reaction to "Oh, a naked lady" gets me every time XD
That's the point of the review, to point where they fucked it up. At the end he goes on recommending the original cut over this piece of crap.
Oh ok. I should have watched the entire video before commenting. Thanks for setting me straight.
Lucky
Just ask Zig Zag if he wants an Orange, and watch his head blow up.
You win the Internet.
Jennifer Schillig That you ZZ? lol
BUTTSCRATCHER?
Who says there ain't no rhyme for oranges? You've never seen H. R. Pufnstuf.
Nightmare Tomb no show me
Come on Doug do some research. All the musical numbers were added AFTER the original creator lost control, as were the voices of Tack and the thief.
Sounds like someone didn't watch the video before posting.
Rembrandt Dassen No. this was my original user name. If it's any of your buisness I am shit with coming up with names and at the time my black lab was sitting next to me when I was coming up with the name.
Doug probably knew that. He states at the end that the original version is far better, with barely any audio.
1, 2, skip a few, 50. Priceless. XD
Vincent Priceless. I dont care what you say that was a clever joke.
I believe you are thinking of 'Worthless'. Priceless means extremely valuable, or, in this case, savory.
AgentVissen
Nope

Anything with Vincent Price is a work of art in itself. Sometimes it's stunning like the art of the old time painters, sometimes it's meh and only is famous because of the name attached.
NefliteX What about Borris Karloff?
HA, didn't expect him to make a jab a Other M!
BTW, what is the image of the Star of David doing in an Arabian window at 11:24?
"More inner monologue than samus from metroid other m" God I love the Nostalgia Critic
I wonder if this episode ever had anything to do with "What Pumpkin"?
was wondering the same thing, though i don't know why. doug never really struck me as an mspa reader
I believe it was a reference to his Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog review. I know he did the pumpkin thing in that review too.
DarkPurpleDude its where this pumpkin thing started, as a matter of fact.
I'm really glad the critic talked about the history that this film had. And how this film is not an Aladdin ripoff. Also, I willing to bet the casting of Jonathan Winters went like this, "Okay, so Aladdin had that Robin Williams guys let's get him for the picture."
"Um, Sir, we'll be seen as nothing but a ripoff if we hire him."
"What? Oh, okay. Well who else could we get."
"Well, Jonathan Winters is free and he was in Mork & Mindy with Williams."
"Perfect!
Is that Rob Walker doing the Vincent Price impression? He's fantastic!
"I Heart Love"
Dir: Tommy Wiseau
x'DDDD!!!
man it's been a long time since I've seen these videos. They've been extremely missed.
I don't think that was the planned story arc for her anyway
*ring*
Critic: Hello?
Price: Critic, i knew that you would blow me off after that last phone call, so i set a time bomb in your house before it was built. Clever me. but don't worry, it's set to go off in exactly 50 seconds. You'd better run big boy.
Critic: Irememberitsoyoudon'thaveto! O.O
Price: One, two, skip-a-few, fifty.
"BOOM"
Price: Oh i love it when i'm nasty!
I found this comment just as that started to play. O.O
Oh! So you watched the video too, then? :D
It is his magnum opus. The animation is so, so beautiful. What the studios did to it is heinous, but the original (even unfinished), far outshines it. For the best experience, I'd recommend the Recobbled cut, like others have said.
You know what, I don't even curr. I love this movie like hell, even for all its shitty mistakes.
TheMuffinBurgler Same here.
TheMuffinBurgler Agreed....though the Theif kind of killed some of it for me....He just felt sort of out of place, yet in place at the same time. I know he plays a major role, but I just felt like the dated jokes and the slapstick humor was kind of off to me :P oh well.
TheMuffinBurgler what the Hell is a Curr? Oh Care
Good to know your glad with sub par material
It is nice. But a few parts are ehh.
MATTHEW~~~~😍
I remeber this movie as a kid and loved it because I DID NOT KNOW ANY BETTER!
Now that I'm older, I can see yes it's a crap movie but the animation/art especially that chase scene are very unique surreal and nicely done.
it's an amazing film
Watch the recobbled cut.
ImmaDeacon Agreed.
ImmaDeacon Thanks I well check it out
"This cacophony of cack you've paraded over my fierce elucidations strikes me with humiliation and discomfort."
That's quite the accurate Price impersonation.
Nostaligia Critic's made up song is better than all the songs in here
That Pumpkin reference be gold.
I thought I heard a "great mouse detective" reference there at the very end after Vincent price blows up the critic's house
Gaby George Never heard of 'Great Mouse Detective' so I can't be sure.
The full version's available on youtube. You'd best watch it while it hasn't been descended upon by the copyright vultures.
Gaby George I see.
The reason Zigzag speaks all in rhymes is because in the original film he was one of the only ones to actually have dialogue, making it more whimsical.

i think the cobbler looks so adorable~!
The music at 18:48.. which movie does that come from? Its very familiar.
only Critic can crap in a bowl with his pants still on
13:31 I'm going to...Disney Land.
That shitting sound effect was so real, I almost barfed.
I dont care what he says.. I love this damn movie. The fucking Thief made the movie
