Wow! What a beautiful vlog! Amazing that after 90 years, there are fans that still come and pay their respects to Valentino . Thank you Jordan for allowing us to pay our respects too!!
I so love that they do this for him. I was there visiting my dream man’s grave (Tyrone Power) and went into the mausoleum to look around and was shocked to see that Rudolph was there at the very end of the hall. I wish I could have been there to see this memorial, but now that I know they do this I’ll have to try to make it back down there to attend one in the future! Thank you, Jordan! Your vlogs are really entertaining and EXACTlY what I would do if I lived down there. Keep it up! Do a vlog for Tyrone someday!
It’s incredible that 90 years in people are still celebrating his short life. Very nice ceremony and beautiful resting place. I learn so much from watching your videos!
I think that in those days everyone had a crush on Valentino. One of the first true heartthrob movie stars, in an era when movies were still quite new. It's hard to imagine that few of his fans actually heard him speak.
Valentino was the first male sex symbol. Male actors mainly emulated Douglas Fairbanks and Wallace Reid. Swashbuckling adventurers and All American types. Women were the ones who were mainly sexualized. Then, along comes Valentino. His slicked back hair was imitated by young men who were referred to as "Vaselinos". Chuckle. His style, clothes, cars and more were not run-of-the-mill American. He worked out two hours a day. He was EXOTIC. An article printed something to the effect of: He's not your father or your brother and he's certainly not your husband😉... Regarding his voice? He was fluent in Italian, French, Spanish and English. He spoke some German. His accent was described as "continental" and light. His voice was deep, as stated by people who knew him. Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone with the Wind, was a journalist in the twenties, writing under the pseudonym Peggy Mitchell. Valentino was visiting Atlanta in 1923 and she climbed the fire escape to his room in order to get a rare interview. Ever the gentleman, he helped her in and appeared quite amused by all the fuss. After the interview, she wrote that his voice was his "chief charm" and that he had a "low, husky voice will a soft sibilant accent". EDIT: Just remembered something else I will relate, because I can't cite or quote something I read many years ago. There was an old advice column I read in an obscure corner of the internet. A woman wrote in that she was having trouble in her marriage. She wasn't attracted to her husband, etc... The columnist wrote back that, while getting intimate, she should just pretend he's Valentino. Later, the woman wrote back that it worked.
My grandmother loved him. She lived in New York City at the time of his death and was devastated. She waited in line for hours to view his body. She said it was a mob scene of hysterical women.
I read that 100,000 people showed up for the viewing at Campbell's Funeral Parlor. At one point, the crush of people busted out the front glass. There was an ongoing heatwave, but it had clouded up and rained a bit... The small amount of rain was just enough to create horrible humidity without abating the heat. Women fainted as mounted police attempted to keep order. That doesn't even include the hysteria on the streets while Valentino languished, several floors up, in Polyclinic Hospital. The hospital building still stands, but has been turned into apartment buildings. What I wouldn't give to stand in the current apartment of his old hospital room and breath that rarified air. Crazy? Perhaps.
@@josephdockemeyer4807 Apparently, because of the hysteria surrounding the viewing of Rudy's body, an Italian master sculptor was hired to create a wax facsimile of Valentino. Campbell's Funeral Home stored the actual body in another part of the building because of the fear of desecration... I've read this in various accounts of the viewing. Also, publicity folks hired people to whip the star-struck crowd into a frenzy, causing a riot that the mounted police had a rough time containing. People loved this young, tragic actor... RIP, Rudy.
@@procopiojrpalacios9702 Thank you for replying to my comment. I had read that about the wax figure. Are you, by any chance, of Italian descent? I'm asking because of your name. Rudy was...
That was fantastic. Exactly the sort of thing I would do if I had the opportunity. So glad you pick this interesting mixture of things to vlog. I enjoy the variety and learn so much.
Thank you very much for vlogging this for us. It was very interesting & moving to watch. Also, I never realized Valentino was born the same year as my Grandmother, 1895. Very cool.....
What a wonderful ceremony to an amazing actor taken way too young . So sad that he couldn't get cured as he should have 😢. Very well done I had tears In my eyes ; so emotional 🦁👍🏻👍🏻❤️😎🌹🎬🎥❤️
Thanks for the blog. Valentino was a fascinating person and a fine actor. And he is a legend. I read that when Valentino died there was no resting place for him. So a woman in Hollywood that he had worked with in films donated the crypt next to hers for his resting place. And that's the crypt in your blog.
Wow! Thank you so much for making this video, it's so special. I only discovered Valentino this year (!) and am fascinated by his life story & his life values, he's so inspiring and he's the best actor ever! I especially loved Sylvia Valentino's contribution, being his descendant, keeping it real! Love your vlogs! Keep up the good work!
Thank you again!! Was wondering if you heard rudoloph Valentino's singing it was said to be the time you could hear his voice. He sings 2 songs one in English and one in Spanish (1923)!
I just purchased a note from Ditra Flame...the longstanding Lady in Black...she was interviewed by Richard Lamparski for his "What Ever Happened to...? Series 5 books and the seem to have stayed in touch. The note has some comments about Rudy, whom she says she knew before he became big star...
I see no dignity in this practice. From all accounts Rudolf Valentino was of middle class birth to an academic father. He was cultured and protected both his privacy and professional integrity. He left his foremost picture company/corporation whilst under contract because of the sub standard scripts and over exploitation of his image. The true icon that he certainly was deserves to be remembered with more respect. As a postscript, this musalium is the final resting place for many others and should not be treated as a theatre. R G Valintino risposare per sempre in pace.
It was the same with Elvis Presley, the doctors were afraid to operate on his impacted colon because of who he was and the potential publicity that could occur if something went wrong.
+CrazyforTrouble the memorial is free for anyone, however many of the seats are reserved foe people that have been going for years.. maybe half the seats, but I had no problem getting a seat
Saludos desde veracruz mexico, gracias por compartir esos momentos agradables en el recuerdo y la memoria de Rodolfo Valenti
Thank you for this. Valentino should never be forgotten. He was talented, and he was the first real movie star. 🎬
Rudy Valentino would be so shock that he still remembered to this day like this.
Thanks Jordan for "taking me" to Rudolf Valentino's memorial service. I really appreciated the dignity you gave this "service".
RUDOLPH VALENTINO!😊
That was something…. ❤ The Woman singing sounded amazing 🎶
Rudolph Valentino May he, “Rest In Peace.”

And no penicillin back then.

It's a shame they never did something like this for Wallace Reid.
