Amazing work to put the camera down and focus on holding it together and finish. Very pleased for you mate. A challenge that seems to get overlooked is completing these events solo. Having no partner to keep you going, no friends to push you, or the opportunity for you to motivate them. It's crippling in it's own right, especially after you've just had a huge mental block come in like damaging your foot. Well done mate, hope for a speedy recovery
Ryan, kudos for you for finishing. I have a similar drive to just complete anything I start even to the detriment to my knees. My first 200km brevet event with my longest previous ride being 100km was exactly that. Knees dying at 150km, 175km was even worse. Had been riding solo in the rain for 75km by that point. Sat at a bus stop contemplating calling home for a pickup. I finished, and called home for a ride with only 5km ride to the house. Healed up and rode some more. This last weekend I had a 200km zwift event. Done it in the past, even done 250km with little problems. 160km I quit. Had enough. I let the gremlins get in my head and win. Still wishing I just stopped for a bit and got back on to finish, but what's done is done. Good on you bud, keep it up!
@@craigsmith5134 Congrats on finishing that first ride you describe. Riding on Zwift sometimes is harder as you also have to battle staring at the same four walls. Thanks for the comment.
Seriously, Ryan. This has got to be your gutsiest performance so far. Can't believe you walked 30K or so on that toe. You definitely have 18 hours in you, if you choose to do this event again. By now I hope you have got that toe checked out and cared for. Best of luck with it. Put that foot up and pack it in ice! 😁
Hey Ryan, I'll be watching this video on my way to 200k gravel bike race. I haven't gone this far in 5 years. Training on Zwift has been amazing and life changing. Keep it up!
Awesome result dude. I am inspired to take on the thames path next year. Probably only 50k but maybe 100k depends how i'm feeling closer to the time. Love all your running videos mate keep going.
Just found your channel and absolutely love it! Well down on a fantastic result 💪 You will certainly be back to get time you are after. Loving watching all your old vids! 😀
Enjoyed watching this on my Running machine this morning Ryan. Bought back some wonderful memories for me! You seemed to skip the hours of the hard part towards the end there. I wanted to see more suffering!!! 🤣
Cracking video Ryan and congrats on smashing your previous PB. I can't believe it's been a year already, it only seems like a few months ago I was watching your previous race on the hottest day of the year! Hope your toe is healing well, that looked nasty.
‘Expect the unexpected.’ I left my Vaseline in my drop bag at 50km. At 51 km I thought: why do my inner thighs sting? Had a look - terrible chafing! First time in my life. Borrowed lip balm (!) from a kilt wearing Scot called Ross; Vaseline from another runner called Ben and anti chafe cream from a group of younger runners. Made it to the next checkpoint and medic. Tubs of Vaseline and sudocreme were acquired and applied regularly. But my word that sudocreme gets everywhere! Also barely ate for the last 6 hours. Death marched the final 6km and had a lie down in the medical tent for half an hour. Burger and chips revived me. I was very proud of my problem solving skills mid race because that chafing could easily have forced me to quit. Expect the unexpected 100%!!
@@conradburdekin722 Chaffing is the worst, that and nipple chaff. Bet you wont forget your bum cream next time. 🤣 Congrats on your achievement, awesome event. 💪
Dude!!!! Amazing job! I broke my foot when I was in the military on a 12 mile march so I know exactly how it feels. I can’t imagine that happening on a 100k distance. Hope your toe gets better!
Smashed it mate! and i'm not talking about the toe (ok it was a little bit about the toe😂) Seriously though, that's a huge PB so congrats and here's to next year sub 18 attempt! wishing you a speedy recovery.
Smashed your previous time, mate! Amazing that you punched on and finished. That's some rule #5 stuff right there. You seemed in brilliant shape right up until the toe incident. The way your fitness has gone over the last year, I think there's definitely a sub-18 in the bag in 2025. That is some immense progress.
Ryan, it was great to say hello at race start and a little further on, so pleased that you beat your previous time. Well done fella. I Also managed to finish this year so am well chuffed - although the race aftermath is a bit of a horror story feet wise.
@@RyanCondon If it's any consolation I was also in A&E afterward with a suspected stress fracture, fortunately just very inflamed right foot/ankle... it's just about easing off now. Hope the toe mends soon.
I heard that stone needed stitches after being kicked so hard 🤣 Seriously, it's incredibly impressive completing that distance (and in that time) after hammering your toe so badly. I kicked a wall in frustrating once when struggling to get my rear wheel back on my bike...almost cried in pain....still couldn't get the wheel on and hobbled for weeks afterwards. But I couldn't imagine trying to hobble another 30k on it. You did yourself proud and I really hope you sat back the day after and felt proud of yourself for all the training and determination you showed to complete that event.
@@RyanCondonI know you didn’t hit your bucket list time but you probably built more resilience points than you ever would have had the race gone smoothly…and these events are all about resilience…and you only build what you get exposed to.
