My 1st Ultra tomorrow inspired by seeing this video when it 1st came out and re-watching it the day before Ultra North 2024. Can't wait to get stuck into it. Keep up the quality content!
@@lornedowney4090 thank you! Really appreciate it. Have a great time and enjoy every footstep! It seems like a long way but that last mile will be here before you know it!
Loved this one Al. Massive congratulations to you all on such a brilliant achievement. So glad you finished and got what you deserved mate. Brilliant memories and a terrific accomplishment 🎖⭐
Stumbled across your channel and love the videos! Especially from a local lad. I started running in 2021 and have got my first marathon in october! Also may have been a bit silly and entered the wall for next year 🤣🤦♂️. Your videos really motivate me to get the trainers laced up and get out the door, thank you! Keep it up!!!
Hey Cameron, that’s awesome to hear, made my day! Thank you. So you’ve gone from starting in 2021 to working up to a marathon and ultra marathon? Get in! Well done and good luck! I quite fancy The Wall next year too. I’ve ran it before but not as part of an organised race.
Great couple of videos on this run. I might give this one a go in the future. Would it be suitable for an ultra novice and what sort of navigation skills do you need? From the videos it seems even experienced ultra runners got lost in places.
Thanks David! I think it’s a great option for a first ultra! The elevation isn’t too bad, conditions underfoot are mostly good (no bogs!) and you don’t need to read maps or anything. There are a couple of spots that you could briefly go the wrong way but nothing serious. I tend to rely on following the person in front! I’ve don’t it for four years in a row and really feel it’s a brilliant way to get into ultra running.
Thank you and what great questions! My average page was just over 7 minutes per km and I tend to go out strong then resort to run / walking as the wall hits. It’s not a brilliant technique but works for me. Also depends on whether I know where the tricky / hilly bits of the route are as if so you can plan around that. People often say, walk the hills, jog the flats and run the downhills! I’d definitely recommend trying one!
@@AlPepperRuns that's a fantastic pace to maintain over 55! and a great strategy too. will give it a go on trail runs :) also, ey up from the north east
Hello, Great Video I am doing it this year, Being Trail and Urban mix, do you think you need full train shoes. I have Norda 001, Not sure if they will be suitable if alot of the run is on Tarmac/paths. Any advise, Cheers
Hey! This one was fully signposted with coloured ribbons every now and then to keep you on track. The signs are small though so in the woods it’s possible to miss one. Other events require you to navigate entirely yourself though e.g. there is very little or even no signage!
@AlPepperRuns thanks so much for replying. I've just signed up for this with my Dad for next year. Have done a couple of half's and don't know what possessed me to think it was sensible to jump straight to an ultra. Now I'm panicking about getting lost, it being harder than I think etc 😆
@@sumgirl782 that’s brilliant, congratulations! I think if you can run a half comfortably enough you’ve already got a great base for a 55k. You’ll smash it!

Epic effort. Sold it to me at the end. Getting myself signed up for 2024!
Thanks and get in! See you on the start line!

Cheers Dean! Appreciate the feedback and support as always. Got an even harder ultra in a couple of weeks that’s going to be a challenge!
You go, you good thing! Awesome effort mate!
Thanks mate! Pleased you enjoyed it.

Yes mate, I'm stepping up front the 26k to the 55 next year
Get in! You’ll smash it I’m sure! Will see you on the start line no doubt.

Amazing work!! Ultras actually look really intriguing! How do you break it up with walking/running? what does pace average out at?

Thanks Mark! If it’s dry then it’s not too technical but I wore trail shoes regardless. I reckon your Norda’s will be spot on! Enjoy!
I know the lass who gave you that ice pop
Ha, I don’t know her but she was absolutely class, that’s for sure! That ice pop was something else!
@@AlPepperRuns I have told her
How do you navigate during this? Like how did that woman get lost?
