It is simply him not knowing about the engines. Very common mistake. All 2 stroke diesel engines have blowers because they can't run without one. The 2 stroke cycle doesn't allow a diesel to get enough air to get enough compression for fuel ignition. The blower is only there to charge the cylinders. They don't really help make power. The turbo is where the power comes from, just the same as on a 4 stroke engine.
Used to run down 7 mountains on my way to Mehcanicsburg in the late 90’s before they redid it. There’s some beautiful views from State College down to Harrisburg

I know they were phased out because of emissions but I think there are ways. The rail locomotives run 2-strokes that have been fitted with emissions technology to keep them around.
My absolute dream would be to put one of these old engines into a Pete 389, 579, or 589. Kenworth T680 or W990 with 700 HP and drive it until the wheels fall off!!!
Dropping an 8v92 or another mechanical engine like a Big Cam 3/4 or a Cat 3406B into a modern truck won’t work as they’re wired for modern Cummins, Volvo or Detroit engines.
That's the thing. You wouldn't really be hooking anything up to the engine and would have to replace all the gauges or gauge cluster. The engine is the easy part. It doesn't need any wires to function really. But everything in the cab is routed through the ECM, including the climate control, lights, everything. You would have to completely gut the dashboard and install all mechanical gauges and controls. You would have to essentially remove the entire wire harness and wire in one you custom build yourself. It can absolutely be done, but it is by no means a simple task .
