Transmission mount insert is my favorite low cost mod! Makes the shifts so much more solid. Without it, shifts feel like the transmission is held onto the body with a rubber band. Great video and Audi!
the right tools can make or break your experience with cars. an impact wobble socket or a lift can make control arms or an engine out experience 100x easier
The trick to getting the pinch bolt out is to cover it in anti-seize when you install it. Not much help when you're dealing with a stuck one but when installing a pinch bolt I always coat them with anti-seize and have never had an issue getting those out.
DO NOT HEAT ALUMINUM, it will weaken it. Best way to remove the pinch bolt is using a all thread with a M10 drilled and tapped in the end, cut or snap the bolt head off, thread the all thread on the bolt, put a spacer over the all thread and a nut, then simply tighten it down, it will come out easy.
I JUST did this swap for my control arms this last weekend. Pain in the butt! But, the rubber grinding is gone and it handles much better! Plus, a $170 bushing kit? Heck yeah! Also, my pinch bolts came right out. I soaked them over a period of three days, everyday. I don’t know if the previous person put anti-seize in there but thanks the gods that wasn’t an issue.
I ordered a 034 control arm kit a couple days back. I’m now learning about this - is it true you get vibration in the steering wheel? Specifically at high speeds? I put eBay knockoffs for all 8 control arms in late 2021 that are already visually torn even though the car sat from Jan 2023 to Sep 2024. I can’t begin to address the issues, but what was I expecting; high speed vibration, loose steering/wobbly, wobbly braking coming to a stop, and a weird noise with medium to heavy braking coming to a stop plus more vibration… I’d say it’s the rotors but I also had a Powerstop kit put in on the fronts in 2021 I don’t believe these are already bad. I feel all minor road imperfections, it is paired up with bilsteins sport shocks all around. I’m HOPING that the 034 arms will fix these issues. Now am I wrong to hope for that? Cause I’m looking for a balance between sport and comfort but I’m leaning more into comfort. Are they designed to have slight vibrations? Should I just for a different brand that doesn’t consider themselves sporty equipment manufacturers like SIDEM?- since Meyle HD appears to be out of stock in most stores. I’d like the most info on the feel and ride quality 034 normal non-adjustable control arms had to offer.
I've not had to touch this yet. But I've seen guys a pinch bolt tool. You get in to the gap and twist it. It's designed to separate the very problem you described.
Love your videos. I wish I had the guts to do this myself. Maybe one day! Did your torque the bolts? I got my lowers changed, stupid mechanic re-used some of the old bolts and I don’t know if he even knew what to torque them to. Bummed out after spending so much money that they might pre maturely fail.
I managed to undo the pinch bolt with just a normal size ratchet. Thank god I live in australia. Though I paid for my hubris when I went to take it off to repair a mistake I made during install and found it was bent, and then stripped the threads removing it requiring me to drive 2 hours to get a new bolt. Fun
Did you torque down the bushings while the front end was under load? If you torque down with the wheels off, the bushings may wear out prematurely as they will constantly be "twisted" when the car is squatting under it's weight.

I recently just purchased the kit for my A5. My control arms are most definitely toast, but the alignment still seems solid. After putting the new arms on, is an alignment necessary?
I also replaced all control arms with 034 and after 6 months, clunking noise came back with two ball joint bushings torn. Replaced then all with meyle hd and two years later still tires like new
I'm trying to figure out why I'm having a misfire issue still on mine, my biggest theory is it probably sat for to long. I've replaced the plugs and coils, but still doing it hoping it's not an o-ring or something like that .-. anyone have any tips/advice? I do have to get it inspected since its past due for that >.> but yea
Hey there really awesome informative video keep up the good work ! I was just wondering if you have upgraded brakes ? I've had a k04 turbo upgrade on my audi a3 and the oem brakes couldn't handle the heat, they wrapped and started squeequing.
I changed all the lowers because I was told that the upper don’t get impacted as much …all the noise and drive went back to 100% plus I did not want to even deal with the pinch bolt
If the pinch bolt is such a PITA, and if you're replacing all of the control arms, why not just cut the control arms in half and not worry about pinch bolts?
I’ve been very intrigued by the b9 s4 for sure. Still not sold on the auto trans since I prefer to have three pedals, but if the used market continues to come down in price I may reconsider
Hi. Your Audis look so cool. My Audi A4 B8 look good too, but i habe Problem, that i must put 1L oil after 500 km. I use Castron 5w30. Can you please tell me what to do to fix it? Thank you
CUT THE BOOT OUT BEFORE USING THE FORK. OTHERWISE The rubber dissipates the shock when you hit with the hammer, demanding more effort. THE FORK STILL BREAKS THAT RUBBER TO MEET METAL BEFORE SPLITTING OCCURS - YOU HAVE AN EASIER OPTION OF CUTTING IT OUT USING A BOX CUTTER RATHER THAN BREAKING YOUR SHOULDER. DONT BEAT THE RUBBER, ELIMINATE IT. ✌️
Naptown tuner is so underrated all of his install and repair videos are top tier
Indeed it is

love watching these b8 build vids... no perfect install bs, you show the ups and downs of building a b8. can't wait to see more!

Honestly don’t know why I waited so long to get one. It rocks!
👍😁
Your videos are the best, the camera work is crazy 🔥

That wobble socket has been a life saver
These videos help me get hyped up to finish my b8. Lol keep it up bro 🔥🔥

Thanks for making this video and showing us these repairs can be done bumpy the owner, I’ve had my first Audi for about a month now.

A lot to times I thought of selling my b8 a4 and your cars tells me not too. Gotta love the b8 beauty
Such a sick A4
It would be cool to see a special guest appearance from naptown tuner reacting to you you car

That’s a really bad idea. That opening is not designed to be spread open like a strut collar. Great way to damage your knuckle beyond repair
did you compress the springs before tighting them up?
I just refreshed my whole front end lol. Cracked my knuckle on the lcas.
Yikes 😬
When you reinstall the control arms its a good idea to use some antiseize with the new bolts and nuts. Tarspray, copperpaste, etc...
cheers from green bay! Love your channel!
Go pack go 🧀
Go pack go from Fort Myers, FL!

Nice build my B8 is coming around as well
How are the control arms holding up?
You don’t mention in your video but did you torque them at ride height?
Perfect timing Im having this exact issue with my B8 right now as well lmao
I managed to undo the pinch bolt with just a normal size ratchet. Thank god I live in australia.

Did you have to preload the suspension before tightening the bushing bolts?
he did not ! that why he will replace all set in next 10k miles xD
Yeah...I was waiting for him to add that disclaimer cause he didn't show it. However major mistake not tightening on preload. See you in six months!
your tires wear even without adjustable control arms? how low are you?
Another banger brother! 👏
Curious to know if you’ve done port injection yet?
Did you torque down the bushings while the front end was under load? If you torque down with the wheels off, the bushings may wear out prematurely as they will constantly be "twisted" when the car is squatting under it's weight.
cool music and video effects bro

hey, were did u buy your back difuser?
Brother, what’s the name of the song you’re playing as the video nears the end? That piano medley is 🔥!
How does that air ride feel on the road and which set up is it.
It’s airlift performance with 3p management and st shocks in the rear. Basically feels just like coilovers
I recently just purchased the kit for my A5. My control arms are most definitely toast, but the alignment still seems solid. After putting the new arms on, is an alignment necessary?
It would be a good idea to get it realigned, yeah
Great cinematics and nice face
yeah pinch bolt looool i got one side out with a blow torch, but hte over one was screwed, had to get a knuckle
There are 16 of them and they are $400-450 each on the non S or RS models stock. It’s sooo expensive 😭 like wow!! I can’t even believe it lol
Would love to see some drive arounds
That thumbnail 😂. Nice car BTW, really like it.
was looking for this comment 😂😂
If I replace them do I need a alignment?
yes

Side note, I'm glad you did post this cause I had been thinkin that mine were starting to go possibly, now all the clunks I'm hearing make sense
Really stupid question but i'm not familiar i'm sorry, Should i worry about transmission mounts if my B8 is automatic?
Put on coil overs and tried to undo the pinch bolt snapped it off and added about 3 hours to the job left it alone on the other 3 spots 😂😂
Hey there really awesome informative video keep up the good work !
I was just wondering if you have upgraded brakes ? I've had a k04 turbo upgrade on my audi a3 and the oem brakes couldn't handle the heat, they wrapped and started squeequing.
How much time did this take you to do? I'm doing this, this Saturday upper and lowers. I'll be using a lift.
Took a couple nights after work, but it could get done in a Saturday. A lift certainly helps
That pinch bolt turned my $500 job into a $1,500 in a matter of seconds.
Hello from China ,I changed mine in repair shop for around 60 dollars recently, and I think it was still expensive
I miss my Audi🥲video 🔥🔥
Hello, can you tell me what type of front lip it's that? Thank you, i like your work, good luck.
It’s just a carbon fiber front lip from eBay
I changed all the lowers because I was told that the upper don’t get impacted as much …all the noise and drive went back to 100% plus I did not want to even deal with the pinch bolt

Any plans to do a B9 build in the future?
I’ve been very intrigued by the b9 s4 for sure. Still not sold on the auto trans since I prefer to have three pedals, but if the used market continues to come down in price I may reconsider
I ended up buying 2 New aluminium mounts. Both broke when trying to get that bolt out. 3 week project....

why does your seat move around so much?
dont forget to change stabilizer,,
Sitting at 257k miles 07 a4
If you’re running air bags and going to the race track, you’re doing something wrong.
