I'm sure you can agree that there is a lot of waste produced with all the online shopping we do these days. I think it's important to take some time and think about your own online store and little adjustments you can make to help the environment. Eco friendly packaging isn't the easiest to find or access but it does exist and I hope this video at least gives you a starting point.

Theres lots of offices that shred documents, it's just if they are happy to give you the shredding for your packaging, but that's pretty eco friendly, recyclable, and local.
that's a great idea!
you can't recycle paper shredding. You have to put it into regular trash. Apparently the small shredded pieces clog up the sorting machine.
@@mmlg24 ah either way it's compostable and it was going in the trash anyway. Our local council will accept shredded paper for recycling provided its bagged

collecting used packaging is always the best (and often cheapest!) option
I do save shipping materials from orders I place but it's not enough. If you're ordering that much stuff online you're actually probably causing a bigger negative impact on the environment than going somewhere local to shop.
@@SarahTypes I do not shop online, but collect mailers etc from local businesses! they r happy to hand them out as they have to pay to dispise of commercial waste

thank you so much for this wonderful video. I'm an eco brand and was trying to solve the order mailing problem. One other item you might be interested in is water soluble paper - I use this for instructions.
BTW I noticed you don't have some sort of claim like "made from 100% recycled plastic materials. Is recyclable" type. People don't know, so it's good to promote that. One of my products has a box made from seed impregnated paper made from 100% recycled pager and I definitely include that info on the box :-)

For tape, if it won't be exposed to the elements e.g. used on items inside the mailing box, there is water soluble tape and water soluble string at smartsolve. They also sell on Amazon.
I had no idea this sort of stuff was a thing! Very cool!
@@SarahTypes you might also want to check out botannical paperworks. they're a canadian company and have paper shreds, packaging etc. you have the option of using seed impregnated paper....if people plant it, they can help feed the bees, or grow their own veggies or herbs. 100% recycled material and is compostable
Idk if anyone will see this, but @martinathornhill on Instagram has a story highlight titled “packaging” where she shows how she does plastic free shipping. She seems to have it down to a science and she ships ceramics so her methods are super protective. 11/10 would recommend checking it out (also her ceramics are gorgeous!)

I love how your buying things to lessen ecological impact and they are coming in plastic. Still less waste but kind of defeats the purpose for me. Still happy I found a video discussing more eco friendly packaging (if it isn't plastic I apologize and would love to know what it is)
The only thing I purchased that's plastic are the bags that seal. These are made of 100% recycled materials and can be recycled as well so they don't have to go into the 'garbage' waste. So still not completely ideal and when I run out I'll probably search for an alternative that's biodegradable.
@@SarahTypes well I mean it looked like they came in plastic, not that the items themselves were plastic, but rather they were themselves in plastic packaging.
I clicked on the staples page for the tape but it has been removed. I looked up paper tape on the page and it says It contains fiberglass which I Googled and Wikipedia says that it’s plastic.
i would love to shop eco enclosed but cant find anyone who uses them in my area :(

I think they are a pretty great company and they seem to be constantly updating their products so I def would recommend them even still!

Are the padded mailers waterproof? I know boxes typically aren’t waterproof lol
The ones I purchased are kraft paper so they aren't waterproof.. they have bubble mailers which are though: www.ecoenclose.com/shop/recycled-mailers/recycled-bubble-mailers/
But it comes in plastic bag
the plastic was made out of 100% recycled materials.. so at least that's something!
@@SarahTypes 100% recycled materials is a plus! If you're ever interested in going 100% biodegradable with your packaging you could use newspaper sheets or even better recycled newspaper (environmentalist like me would totally freakout if we got a 100% biodegradable package & def can be a benefit to market it in your listings!)
I know sometimes it can be difficult going 100% sustainable so big props to you for putting this at the top of your list for your business! So important
I think you could be more eco-friendly if you use compostable bags and packaging it's definitely something to look into
There are always ways to be more eco friendly. It's good to start somewhere.
