    I've completed projects that I previously would never have attempted with the help of these videos. The instructions are simplified and easy to understand. In the last month, I have taken a bare storage room, and constructed a wall, drywalled, mudded, hung a door, put down laminate flooring, baseboard and casing, put up a suspended ceiling, and wired in lighting. Every step followed Shannon's instructions. It turned out great. Thank you.

    This is the best electrical (basic wiring) video I have seen for wiring lights. Your mock setup should leave even an electricity novice with no questions. Every wiring video should be this detailed.

      You are assessing this from a position of ignorance. Only qualified people can comment on the correctness of what he is showing. You are not that person. BTW, the ground on newly installed switches must be connected if the junction box is non-metallic, which is usually the case in residential. NEC 404.9(B) You're welcome.

    I been asking several individuals including two electricians what is wrong with my switch. I explained that I only have one Romax 14/2 Running to the switch, how do I make it work? Then this video understood me, the second example is what I was attempting to do and all I needed was to run a 14/3 to the switch. Thank you so much 😊

    Helped me solve my "smart switch" to "dumb switch" wiring issue! Smart switches usually require the neutral wire, so I couldn't figure out what to do with it as it tripped the breaker. Dumb switches apparently do not need that wire . Thanks!

    Great video! Just an addition 14/2 is for 15 amp circuits which are pretty standard in the US, but 20 amp is also pretty common which would require 12/2. Make sure you know the amperage of the circuit you are working for (typically listed on the breaker that’s powering it) and what wire gauge/type is required.

    • @HouseImprovements
      @HouseImprovements  3 роки тому +2

      Yes absolutely, you generally would not use 20 amp for a lighting circuit but it could be that way.

    I just wanted to say THANK YOU! I took an electrical class in the past, and the instructor used boards like what you have here. He has since passed, but I have fond memories of going through the boards to truly understand the hows and whys of electrical. Today I was replacing a switch that had a mystery set of wires coming into the box, and thanks to you, I was able to figure out which black wire was coming in and that one of the outgoing wires was going to a box that had been disabled years ago. I really appreciate that you put this out there...this was the refresher I needed. Thank you so much!

    In my area, when running the line to the light and then to the switch, 2-wire is used, with the incoming black connected to the white (of the line that runs to the switch) and then the power coming back to the light via the black. So what this means is that the white that runs from the light to the switch is in fact hot.

      This makes sense. Did this 25 years ago for a light switch that controls marker lights in my shop...had forgotten how I did it. Just went and looked. I'd done exactly what you're talking about but in bx, 14/2. Guess I could have tagged the neutral with black tape up in the junction box...but it's easy to follow and I'm not an elastician!
