TWO big-ass thumbs up! I was hired yesterday to mount a TV and microwave. Although I’ve mounted tons of TVs, I’ve never done a microwave before in my life. After watching this incredibly descriptive video, I not only sounded like I’d done this before, but the job came out perfectly! Thank you so much!!!
I bought a 56 lb. microwave that I was trying to install above my stove underneath a cabinet. I never would never have figured out how to angle it to get it on the track without watching your video. I cannot thank you enough for going to the trouble of posting this video. God bless you.
Almost 4 years later, this is the BEST install video. If you follow his instructions, especially with the tile backsplash, your install will be flawless. An actual installer couldn't have installed mine any better. Thank you HouseImprovements, from a new subscriber!!!
we just bought a house and this is one of the main updates the wife wants me to do ASAP after we move in.. i knew this task was simple but man you made it look like a no brainer. awesome video!
Believe it or not I bought the very same microwave, and the same cabinets. I have read the installation instructions several times without understanding, everything was as clear as mud. Your video is clear and concise to the point and easily understood, made installation crystal clear. Thanks to you this job was without headache. I can not say Thank You enough, keep up the good work.
Great video as always ! The only one tip from my MW installation experience with all that kitchen cabinets quality that could be a good idea to use large diameter washers for those upper bolts or sometimes plates if the upper shelf had a bunch of holes from previous installations . After few years of usage the smoke and steam from MW vent makes top shelf "wood " softer and bolts start sinking thru the wood in cheap cabinets (seen it many times in last 20 years installing MWs)
I watched both the removal and installation videos and I now feel that I can absolutely do this myself. I honestly appreciate the fact that you leave in the parts where you have to refer to the manual. We all do. These videos are very well done and please keep them coming! You have a subscriber for life!
Super helpful video, Shannon. Thanks so much. The challenging part for me was working with walls that were not square which was going to effect the ability for the door to fully open. I figured out a slightly off-centre position for the back plate on the wall, drilled an oversized hole for the power cord then "dry" mounted the microwave. My son held it in place and by tipping it down a bit, I could see the line where the two top screws had to be. We then removed the microwave, put up the top template and lined up the screw holes we marked with the template which gave us the depth. We drilled the top holes and they lined up perfectly. As desired, the microwave was positioned a bit off centre so the door could swing fully open without hitting the adjoining wall.
Guy that installed mine a few years ago never changed the flow of the exhaust and I never noticed until I had to redo the vent to outside. Didn’t think it was this easy, thanks
This is the second video I've viewed for help with appliance installation from the Houseimprovements channel (the first was for built-in dishwashers installations). Thank you! Your videos are a breath of fresh air for us non-professional DIY-ers!
I have had contractors tell me I need to run a dedicated line for my existing microwave, two of them so far, so this video saved me a lot of money - Thanks so much. There are hardly anymore honest contractors left these days, most want to rip you off.
It's electrical code for microwave to have a dedicated circuit, the plug he was using would be a dedicated plug so effectively the microwave is on a dedicated circuit, which is how we typically wire new houses. FYI, dedicated circuits in your house: fridge, microwave, dishwasher, kitchenette, stove, dryer, washer, furnace, water heater, sump pump, outside plugs (GFI's). Also, 1 circuit per two 20A kitchen countertop plugs. You should probably listen to contractors over assuming things from youtube clips.
Your uninstall and now this install video were a HUGE help. The tile backsplash on my wall went halfway up the back of the microwave, so I had to drill right through the tile. I didn't have masonry bits, so I sacificed a few wood bits to the "honey-do-list" gods rather than making a trip to the hardware store. Worked out just fine in the end. Thank you again for the excellent how-to videos. I'm eating a plate of warmed up leftovers as I type, thanks to you. ;)
It shows his high self-confidence either, otherwise he could re-edit the video and cut that footage. Although I can't even dream to have such a kitchen neither these appliances, but I enjoyed watching this video.
Brilliant. We just bought this exact same Microwave from a scratch and dent store, installing it where there previously had not been a unit. The whole thing perplexed me. You helped me solve the template issues. Seriously AMAZING!!
Thanks for the video. This is how you do a how-to video. You got straight to the point w/out unnecessary, excessive verbiage! Well done sir. And thankfully I watched it prior to ripping into the box and ruining the templates which I would have done without this information. Thumbs up!
A great thorough and very clear instructional video. Watching this made installing our unit a breeze. Ready to install another one and watched again to refresh my memory. This actually made the installation a fun project. Thanks for all the great videos Shannon!
You are not only very good at what you do but I find you are a very good teacher.Whoever got to apprentice with you would have been a lucky person.I always found it was so much quicker just to do the work, but to properly explain and show someone, they would have been shortchanged on the explanation end.I had an excellent Master Carpenter, with many years of knowledge giving hands on teaching.I asked him one time, what do you want me doing..."Just watch what I do",what he didn't know was I always watched what he did whenever possible.Nothing like experience from those who did it best.Keep up what you are doing, this is the only channel I look for knowledge,THANKS (I could have posted this on any of your videos, not only this one).
Awesome video. I watched this and your microwave removal video too, got the project done almost exclusively off these two videos alone. Simple, to the point. My microwave was the same brand as in this video so that made it all the more simple. Same bracket, same hardware, same templates.
Thank you for the help. It had been several years since my last microwave remove/install. Watching you made the whole process so much easier. The old one is out, the new one is in. One person install just like you did. Your videos are great ! Clear, concise, and to the point with no added nonsense. I am subscribing now !
Appreciate you taking the time helping out in making this video and not editing out the few seconds on figuring out how to take adjust the blower fan. Thank you helped out a lot
Thanks for this video being a single female that now owns a home and have to things myself I want to thank you for this video. I love the way you gave the info step by step and explained why. I also like that you explained the other options that you may be faced with when it came to the venting of the microwave. That's the first place I got lost so since I came to you to see how to take the old one down. I came back to see how to put up the new one. Thanks again for being through with your instructions,
Thanks Shannon! Have been watching your channel for a few years. I'll be doing a microwave like that, fridge with water/ice maker, and putting a dishwasher in our new house very soon. It doesn't currently have a dishwasher so I found your electrical/plumbing video for dishwashers really handy. I appreciate your very detailed style and you're also Canadian which helps a lot with relevant code etc. Thanks!!
best video I have seen for microwave install. i also plan on using the strip of plywood due the width of the tile. watching you do it gives me a lot of confidence in the relatively simple install.
i feel stupid that I've had my new microwave oven sitting on the counter for at least a year while i procrastinated over the install. thank you for the video which makes the install seem absurdly simple (like reading the instruction manual I guess)
Your videos were excellent, because of you I can get someone to help me remove and install a microwave over the range. I loved your details so now I know I’ll need to remove cabinet doors, a 1/4 inch x 30 inch plywood x 6 inches to meet the tile backsplash, a light drill, drill bit for hanging/screw, hole cutter for cord, spade bit to hang microwave from cabinet, screwdriver, stud finder, cardboard to slide microwave on countertop, scissors to cut templates and steps tool to get up and screw microwave into cabinet. I can do this with a strong helper. Ty
A really informative video and easy to follow along. Thank you for including instructions regarding the butterfly bolts. That was exactly the instructions I needed.
Just installed mine last night. I wish I had come across this video first. I removed pieces of my backsplash, and now I’ll have to repair it. The install came out pretty good though.
It's amazing that just about every manufacturer has the top mount screw holes in a different location. Even if you replace an old microwave with a new one from the same manufacturer, there is no guarantee the holes match. I can understand why one manufacturer doesn't want to use the same locations as a competitor uses ( gives you incentive to go with the same manufacturer when replacing the microwave in the future ) but can't for the life of me understand why one manufacturer would change the hole locations on their own product . That goes for the wall mount bracket too. They keep changing that around which makes even less sense, AND.....just to mess with you a little more, they keep changing the height of the microwaves so even if they use the same wall mount bracket, you have to relocate it, AND... if the new microwave is less in height and your tiles went flush against the old microwave, you now have a gap under the new microwave. Keeps installers busy though
Keep in mind wherever there are screw holes on the top there has to be dead space inside to accommodate the screws. So depending on the internal mechanics, they may not have much option when it comes to location.
Just installed one myself. Thank you for your video! The blowers on mine were set up for a top vent, but you made it clear enough how to re-orient them for recirculate, since I wasn't doing vent work.
Venting, my new microwave is about the same as yours. Will the exhaust air automatically vent out to the kitchen? If the fan is facing horizontal or vertical it’s still will be against a solid surface, so does it matter how the fan is positioned?
I put in over the range microwaves for my job, run into a lot of old cabinets with old wood or press board I usually use large washers up top to distribute the weight more also his particular cabinet had a flat bottom so the hole for the cord had to be new so the microwave sit's flat but I can usually use the old hole and stuff the remaining cord down into the cabinet
Because of this video. I took out my van assembly and positioned it to blow out the front. I DID NOT HAVE A EXIT ventilation fan. Thank you so much for this bill deal. I hope this helps someone else. My microwave vents out the front.
Great video. I appreciate that you get right to the point and only explain what's important. I've seen so many other videos where people ramble on about things that really don't matter about the task at hand. I'll be checking out your other videos.
Excellent video! Just bought a replacement m/wave with ceiling exhaust and after watching I am just smart enough to know that it is better to get a professional to do the work as I don't wish to drop/damage at $700. m/wave.
Brother....I busted. "I guess I'll check the instructions. Oh, I see now the holes with the 2" raised lettering." You rode that like a boss. Great video. Truly a DYI actual experience video!
I greatly appreciate your video! Not understanding how it went in, I could figure out how to get the old one out. And you TOTALLY explained the blower! Thanks.
OUTSTANDING! GREAT VIDEO! I'm not ready to install yet, because I haven't bought the replacement yet. But, I'll be back to review this video again, once I have the new replacement. THANK YOU!
Thank you for making this video. I’ve used your videos to install siding and thanks to you it looks great. Now I’m tackling this microwave and here you are again helping me out thanks again It sure was very informative and to the point. 👍
Thank you, I have installed several over the range microwaves and only thing I would had done differently is use a level (regardless of template) when drilling back wall mounting. Also a trick of mine is to place a wood surface such as a plywood board on top of the stove and then place two plastic boxes such as milk storage boxes or just storage boxes which will raise the microwave and make it easier for one person to mount. I watch most of your videos although I am a professional, just cause I enjoy them.
both uninstalling and installing videos were superb. I was afraid to tackle this alone but you gave me the confidence to! Don't worry, wife will be near-by for any support :)
Thank you so much for this video! I just installed a new one and your video helped me understand why it’s falling forward. I forgot to put the long screws in the too. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Thanks for the video. I just installed a new over the range microwave. Thanks to your video it made it a lot easier to know how to line everything up(I had to drill a hole in a different location to fit the new microwave).
Great video. I had a few challenges and I won't know until tomorrow how much tolerance is given to top holes being drilled. It seems like when Shannon was lining up the holes on the top there was a little forgiveness to get the screws threaded. My biggest challenge was like this install with a backsplash. I cut a 1/4 thick piece of plywood to shim the mounting bracket and for the top template
Thank so much for the video. You have explained how to drill the holes , install the bracket and microwave oven very clearly. Your video has the excellent shots.
Great job and presentation. When I opened the box of my new microwave and read the instructions, I couldn't quite understand the instruction. So I searched for a vieo on how to install it and glad I found yours and played. But first I have to remove the current exhaust system on top of the stove. We had a counter microwave before and we had the exhaust above the stove. There was no microwave on above the stove before.
HouseImprovements I’m glad I measured before I installed. I measured the top of the vent that is there and it’s 15” to the end of the cabinet. The height of the microwave I bought is 17” and the bottom of the microwave if installed is too close to the top of the gas range. I have to find a microwave that will fit. I’m also glad I did not yet remove the vent.
the next day i put 2 micros in,the first took about 30 mins what with getting the proper tools together, the next about 10 mins, rather than taping the paper template on the top and back i took the measurements from the templates, marked the wall and cabinet, saved time and aggravation, but after watching your vid i did have a very good idea of what to expect, thanks again
"At this point i might have to read the instructions" that's usually me at every project I do! 😂😂😂😂 very good video, thanks for saving us a lot of reading! 👍
Sometimes I think I can do a job like this. I have the microwave here and ready to be installed. 30 secs into your video, nope. I’ll hire someone to put it in. Great vid and great reminder for one to stay in their wheelhouse. Thanks!!
Old lady here - first time seeing Shannon. Love this video, and made me laugh when you couldn't find the screws at the first and ultimately said, "I'll take a look at the instructions." You are so cute, young man. I just fixed the door switch on a microwave via UA-cam vids and now have to hang it without templates. What's the worst that can happen? Haha
You are awesome. NO loud music. NO goofy lines or unneeded rhetoric. Thanks.
TWO big-ass thumbs up! I was hired yesterday to mount a TV and microwave. Although I’ve mounted tons of TVs, I’ve never done a microwave before in my life. Hope you used the washers and did not leave them out like the video. That's a big No No!

Thanks for the hints and comments Jerry
Nice man!!!
Thank you for your assistance. I knew how to do it, but your tips, I was able to get it so much easier and faster.
Detailed and to the point , i always wondered how is this done
both uninstalling and installing videos were superb. I was afraid to tackle this alone but you gave me the confidence to! Don't worry, wife will be near-by for any support :)
The strip of plywood was genius. I have the worst luck putting hole in drywall and this will help.
I was so confused by the instructions that came with my microwave😭 Thank you for making this video and simplifying it for me 🙌🏽
Excellent installation video that leaves nothing to the imagination. His videos are the often the best on the internet.
Thank you so much for this video! I just installed a new one and your video helped me understand why it’s falling forward. I forgot to put the long screws in the too. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Thank you, for your good and thorough instructions. Now I feel comfortable replacing our old microwave oven.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video. I haven't changed my microwave in a decade and forgot how. This was very helpful.
Be sure your micro wave is not to low to your cook top . 15" for electric ranges and 18" for gas stoves I believe.
Outstanding job - so much so that I've watched it twice to get ready for my Saturday fun! Just the right amount detail and speed. Thank you.
we have a newer video that shows how to vent it outside as well . Look for a link to that video in the description of this one.
Love this video! Especially the "discovery" that we all go through that lead us to reading the instructions. I'm glad he didn't edit that out!
This was super easy to follow.. don't need a man over here to do my house work.. just UA-cam. Thank you!
you did a nice job with this vid,no extra crap, concise,to the point, thank you
the next day i put 2 micros in,the first took about 30 mins what with getting the proper tools together, the next about 10 mins, rather than taping the paper template on the top and back i took the measurements from the templates, marked the wall and cabinet, saved time and aggravation, but after watching your vid i did have a very good idea of what to expect, thanks again
Thanks!!
Excellent video , both the removal and installation videos. The clear and concise explanation on both were great!
Haha
you are one of the best hanging microwave installer i’ve ever seen!! thank you and more thumbs up 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
