Bro this is an awesome video. What a tough song too. Sleep token rules and I love seeing this broken down this way. Vessels vocals are incredible. It’s cool to see the amount of thought and the layering of vocals.

This was so awesome to watch! I've been playing drums for the past ~10 years but for the past year I've just been fantasizing about being able to sing all my favorite songs like this. Awesome video!

Hey Kurt. Thanks for another great video. Question - referring to around 5:20 in the video; if tonality wasn’t a concern (such as darker or brighter tonality), if a male was needing to sing a long held, high note like a C5; what would be the healthier, safer vocal coordination, low larynx (darker tone) or high larynx (brighter tone)?? Assuming either way is sang at a med to low volume. Thanks so much

Both larynx positions can be sung healthily. In contemporary vocal pedagogy, it is understood that all larynx positions can be healthy and useful, especially with the use of the microphone for amplification.
Low larynx positions will always remain an essential tool for every singer in terms of volume, resonance, and technique. Low larynx positions help with volume in several ways. They create a larger pharyngeal space, which increases the resonance potential. They also cause the vocal folds to have less tension. This provides an advantageous starting point for adding compression. Also, low larynx positions help air to flow more freely through the larynx.
A high larynx position can provide brighter, stronger sounds by shortening the pharynx and boosting brighter frequencies in the voice. Also, vocal fold compression increases naturally whenever the larynx is raised. This can help keep the voice sound stronger without having to work as hard with the compression muscles or breath pressure. And higher larynx positions facilitate softer volumes, making the voice more suited for microphone singing.

Vessel also has a super deep talking voice…. There’s old interviews of him with his old band blacklit canopy.

    What is vessels range?

It’s hard to tell without working with him or hearing him do a full vocalization. But from his songs you can determine vocals from at least B2 -G5. That’s an impressively wide range.
