That block by Jameson on Monty's 75 yard run is what sold me on him. I believe this is going to be a great year for him 💪🦁

There are two plays that I think encapsulates Jameson Williams growth and development as a receiver and he’s buddy chemistry with Jared Goff . If you take his big touchdown in week 6 against the Buccaneers and week 17 against the cowboys were he catches a deep shot from Jared Goff for 63yards . Particularly the difference in ball placement .and how Jameson has to reduce his speed less when taking shots from Jared . In week 6 the ball is thrown more on Jameson Williams inside shoulder were the defender is in coverage. Whereas in the week 17 the ball is placed on the outside shoulder were Daron bland can’t make a play on it. And it hits Jameson when he’s in motion if not perfectly in stride just yet

Man thanks for pointing that out! Nice eye for noticing the difference between that time period. I think Jamo is going to put the league on notice this year and everyone will be thinking where did this guy come from? But we notice his improvement over the last few years and especially the last half of the season in 2023. It's not gonna surprise us at all.

I’ve blamed Goff and Johnson as much for his lack of production as anything. I’ll stand by what I said a couple years ago. “Goff is not a good stylistic match for Jamo’s strengths”. 👌

@@michigunsanta8680 well if all you think jamo can be is a deep threat instead of a more complete receiver than yeah your right .he will also never elite in this league . And he’s not getting a contract extension either . But if that clip from a couple of weeks ago is of jamo catching over the shoulder deep down the sideline with Carlton Davis being handsy the whole time .and reports of jamo catching passes from Goff down the middle of the field in OTAs and minicamp are also accurate then you are completely wrong . Starting NFL QBs that go number 1 overall can hit guys like Jamo in stride and if Bryce young could do it at Alabama then Jared Goff certainly can .its an issue of ball placement and timing not . Not just mindless chucking the football down field

@@stlegion-px1wo Deshaun Jackson, who I compare Jamos game to, built a long and prosperous career, running reverses and being primarily a deep threat. There’s nothing wrong with that unless you have a QB that can’t get it to him deep. And BTW I never said that’s all he is. Watch his college game tape. 👌

@@michigunsanta8680 and Jared can and has gotten him the ball deep . But the key is can the build off the chemistry they were reaching by the NFC Championship by week 17 onwards and he he clearly trusted Jamo more because he saw a huge uptick in targets he took 3 shots down field against the 49ers that if caught are game changing plays because any one of them are touchdowns. And theirs evidence looking back the big pass and catch for 63 yards down field that Goff and Jamo can anticipate each other it’s a matter of becoming consistent

You are correct about using Jamo on shorter concepts as far as Im concerned Coach.
Everyone I talked to last year about Jamo was really hoping to see more of that, especially since the deep shots to him were very hit and miss and like you said some of the elite short area moves he put on defenders were eye opening.

When he was struggling with his timing with Goff before his emergence, I advocated for him to get more short catches/screens, comeback routes. He's a gamebreaker with the ball in his hands. And he needed to get in a rhythm and gain confidence.

They are turning Jamo into a more well-rounded receiver instead of just a take-off-the-top dude. His downfield blocking is pretty good as well. I think he takes a leap in production and I increased vertical off the seat in excitement this season :-)

I think it's worth noting that Goff has had his resurgent success with certain types of receivers and certain types of pass concepts. I think Jameson introduced something so new and starkly different to the offense that it hasn't really been a priority for Goff and Ben Johnson, considering how much reliable production would come from the run game and ASRB/LaPorta. This off-season seems to have a real focus and intention on getting Jameson involved, based on personnel decisions to reports out of OTAs, which makes me excited to see how it looks next season.

Goff has shown he's a timing QB, and he's now going to have an entire offseason to work on it with Jamo. I saw he went out to CA to train with Goff, and he seems to be getting a lot of looks in camp. Hopefully he learns from his successes and his mistakes, and comes out in yr 3ish.
He's already said he's taking this season a lot more seriously as a growing adult. Hopefully he can show it on the field and give you some good film to study in 2024.

The play this year that most stands out was the one against the chargers in the middle of this video where at the snap he moved to his block, but as Montgomery ran past he dropped that and used his speed to catch up to and pass Montgomery and put himself into a position of advantage to block the defender and let Montgomery break through and score. That was not part of the plan for the play, that was Jamo seeing the situation and using his unique skills to get into the play to become the pivotal player.

If Jameson Williams is gonna produce at a high level in terms of numbers, hes gonna have to get involved on more than just deep concepts so he can he more involved in general. Just because St Brown or Laporta can do the short atuff so well doesnt mean that Jameson cant do those things too and theres a lot of value getting him involved there if possible. Making the defense respect more of the route tree from him (as well as laporta and st brown) will make it easier for him and the other pass catchers to operate in all other areas of the field and that production is much more consistent week to week.

Jamo came into the league as a 21 year old and acted like a 21 year old. So yes he needed to mature and become a professional, but you can say the same thing for 95% of players entering the NFL.
For what it's worth, MCDC gave high praise for Jamo and the development he made this off-season. Which MCDC doesn't just give coach speak, if he praises a guy it's because he respects the work that player has put in.
I think Jamo is going to have a breakout season, but I think he's never going to be a high volume guy. Which the Lions have St. Brown, Laporta, and the best rushing attack in the NFL; so he doesn't need to be a high volume guy.

I’ve always wanted Jamo to do more short routes. From day one I wasn’t all in on the deep routes. I think he has better hands in shorter routes as well (less time to think). They fear his speed also and seem to give him a little more cushion in the short game.

  • @SuperTrustFall

The TD against the Bucs, people have said he was having trouble tracking the ball or running the wrong fade route. If you look closely at the footage, the play looks designed for jamo fade to the back corner but when he looks the first time he sees the pass is a bit short, so he adjusts, slows up and turns back at the perfect time to bring in the ball. Maybe I'm wrong but it sure appeared that way to me.

I was saying all last year we need to get Jamo a rhythm.. You don’t have to use his speed vertically, you can use it horizontally as well. The short area quickness being a tough runner is underrated. Goff safety blanket (Josh Reynolds) is gone those targets going to Jamo now. Ben Johnson has to step and actually implement a plan for Jamo in this offense and if he doesn’t he’s doing this team a HUGE disservice!

Dan Campbell said JAMO has improved in every area of his game this Off season. Coaches said he's just getting better and better in every area of the game and system. That's good news for us Lions fans, he needed to step up after that injury year and suspension year. It felt like throughout the year he kept getting better and better and this year I think he's gonna come up big for us working and getting in sync with Goff. He doesn't need to be a deep ball threat every play, he's quick and fast meaning he can get out and be effective in running shorter routes like St Brown, spot on with that one coach.

Hey coach, how's it going big guy? Hope all is well with you and yours. From my experience growing up playing football.
I always use to slap the ball as hard as I could, a number of times. After doing this your hands get numb and the feeling starts to become use to it. It's a great way to learn how to make your hands soft. In a matter of speaking. And keep on working on your catching the ball w/your hands. As I got older, I feel like I really had a nack at catching the ball no matter which way I was facing. I could be facing the other direction but be able to look back, find the ball, cat ch it on a very out of the ordinary angle. But it actually looks incredibly cool. When you can catch it like that. People see it, and understand it's not how a ball is normally caught. I've seen some of the pro's do it of course.
It doesn't happen a lot. What I'm saying is if Jamo can learn these techniques. And get them down pact. Catching the ball is like second nature. And a absolute thing of beauty. I know w/Amon Ra St Brown's leadership and mentoring. Jamo can take it to the superstar next level. I know Jerry Rice caught bricks while working w/his dad. Whatever it takes to learn to have soft hands. Is the #1 answer. Slap that pigskin, lol
till your hands are numb. After awhile, you'll build up a pain tolerance. That's where it's at.
And of course your hand eyes coordination. Jamo can master the craft and make it his own. Thanks coach, best wishes to you and yours.

The problem with "scaling up" the flashes we've seen from Jamo is that Johnson has tried it and it never works. When Williams is a change of pace, gadget player, or field stretcher he rips off some huge plays but every time the offense has tried to feed him or lean on him for a drive it stalls. Explosive but not consistent.

Only thing I don't like about Jamo is that he catches with his body instead of his hands I hope he corrects this soon

Tyreek hill is a body catcher and if you didn’t see Jamo catch with his hands last year down the stretch when he shook the rust off then you didn’t watch all of last season 🤷🏿🤷🏿

I do not trust goff to elevate williams game for him to make a HUGE impact. He would be incredible on a team with a really good QB..not someone who is scared to throw to him because of his speed. They couldnt even get him that involved in the offense because goff just doesnt have the arm or ability to get him the ball like a good QB would. Its all up the goff. Jamo can't throw it to jamo...only goff can. And thats what worries me. Hes just a 10 yard passing QB, nice system QB but wouldnt know how to elevate jamos game and that is just too bad

Goff has the most 25 plus yard completed throws in the NFL last year. wtf ru smoking. As for Jamo, he’s our wr2 this year and he will get over 80 targets and over 1000 yards easy. Calm down, this is the first training camp Goff and Jamo can work together.
