Mike and Peter were never crazy about each other but no doubt they were brothers. Love to see them play together. I always thought if they could of resolved their differences they could of put together an AMAZING folk group in the early 70's. Mike and Pete are AMAZING Muscians that never got the respect they deserve from the industry. But the fans will always Love and respect them and that is what really matters
Ironically, Peter and Mike were most alike-and spearheaded the rebellion that gave them creative control. Probably makes sense. And they have both acknowledged a deep brotherly connection. Appropriate that MIke named Peter’s great song.
In 1985 a attended a record collectors show. Peter was advertised for a guest appearance. It was winter time. When it was announced it was time for him to perform, apparently he had just arrived. Still had his winter coat on and was carrying a guitar case. He stood in the middle of the floor and as the crowd surrounded him he took off his coat and pulled out his acoustic guitar. Then he said his guitar was cold and would need a few minutes to tune up. Once tuned up he played for 30 or more minutes standing there with everyone just standing around him. That was my Monkee Moment.
"We were born to love one another - this is something we all need...we were born to love one another, and what we have to beeeee- is freeeeeee" True then, and true today. Thank you, Peter Tork.
Wow! This song hooked me when I was very young, in the closing credits. Great song, love the chorus & bridge. Still love it. Still sounds fresh! Thanks for sharing!
Nez mentioned it several times shortly after Peter's passing. Then I bought a copy of Micky's autobiography. It's one of the first things Micky mentioned early on. He said that they each had their opinions as to what direction they should go musically and debated it all the time. That said, they were definitely like brothers. I'm mostly housebound and I've watched a lot of videos and see photos. They were often seated next to eachother and I saw hugs that were definitely genuine on video. And then there's the interview Nez and Micky did in Australia when they were touring after Peter's passing. Mike starts crying when he talks about his assistant telling him that Peter passed. And as Nez said years prior, brothers in arms
Who knew that Mike named this song? Mike was the most powerful force making this group a group. Wish he wanted it to continue. But it just wasn't meant to be that way. But it all was more than good enough. It's a shame things didn't work out in the past for all four of these guys to remain a band the whole time. But then again, they were put together by other people, so it must be considered pretty amazing they did what they did and are somehow still doing it in whatever form in spite of all the crap they dealt with all these years. Think about it, it shouldn't have happened, but it did. Some didn't get along at different times. That happens with normal bands. But these guys managed to outlive most bands that chose to be a band. These guys had no choice and ended up making some of the greatest records ever. I hope they realize that. They will no doubt continue to be honored long after we're all gone. And will be appreciated as they should be.
Growing up watching The Monkees on tv all I knew about this song was the short bit they played during the ending credits, all these years later this song would just start playing in my head for some reason that I decided to look up the song and hear it complete - what a wonderful and beautiful song it was - thank you Davy, Mike, Peter, Micky, thank you!
Always have and always will love the Monkees. They were so much part of my growing up years. They just wove right into my life! Great group! Wonderful music!
A wonderful yet underrated song. So necessary today. Thank you, Peter. Let us not forget that love is truly what we all need. This song and your memory shall endure in this generation and beyond.
Thanks for the music Peter and not forgetting Davy Jones. I am really grateful that I got to see The Monkees live 4 times and it was all four Monkees that I saw. Peace.
This anthem is relevant then and it’s relevant now. And Peter, although he was battling his own demons for a while and conquered then, showed a lot of courage. Thank you Peter for trying to make the world shine. And hopefully we will try to make the world shine in this country. Love you Peter, forever and always. ❤️
Rest in peace. Davy Jones, Peter Tork and Mike Nesmith. I emailed Micky Dolenz in December and told him that I really enjoyed getting to see him and Mike Nesmith at the Texas Trust CU theater in October.
Let's face it, Mike, Micky and Peter all wrote songs that ended up on the show. Far more talented then they were given credit for. They could have just mailed it in but they didn't. :)
The opposition they met from their corporate bosses made things worst. Had they been smart they would've let them flourish naturally. But, we all know how the establishment ruins anything natural.
This has always been my favorite Monkees song. I always assumed it was written by someone else. Very cool to discover that Peter Tork cowrote it. Love the guitar intro and organ fill. Micky Dolenz’ vocals seal the deal. My second favorite of theirs is Sunny Girlfriend, a Mike Nesmith composition.
Tork actually wrote the entire thing. Mike Nesmith, while not always a friend to him, once noted that Pete would share a song writing credit over even the most minor and fleeting of contributions, and the co-writer only made a minor addition to the song.
“Album” means a collection. So “album” is correct. They called it that because it looked like a photo album in the days of 78 RPMs. RIP Davy, Peter and now, Mike. ♥️
:)))))) When I was a kid, I half hated this song: because I knew it was on the year when they got cancelled, and I was mad that they went off the air! Lol. Oh well, kid thinking. But now: LOVE IT! Only thing I don't like about it now is that it is too short! :) But I can say that about all of their TV songs. Love these guys!!
God bless you Peter i pray that you are with our Jesus in heaven, i love you very much as i do love Davy, Mike & Mickey 😘😘😘😘😍😍😍💖💜🧡💟💛💝💚💗💙💓❤💛❤💞 i know i will see you & Davy in heaven one day, i'll keep playing the Monkees music till i come home to Jesus 🎼🎵🎶🎸🎹🎤🔊 all my love to all in heaven 🌺💮🌹🌸🌼💐🌻🌷🏵⚘😘😘😘😘
please send Mickey love for his birthday this year. For those who do not know it is March 8. he lost Davy now he has lost Pete just before it must be too much
0:03 amazing how much he came resemble Drooper of the Banana Splits in later life, even though that was probably supposed to be Mike. The intertextuality of all the great 60s fake bands is wonderful. They might not have risen to the heights of The Rutles, but they were our favourite fakes. RIP
Even though I can’t comment on Peter and Mike’s personal relationship, it seems they really did have respect for each other deep down. Naming a song after him, crying after his death? They might not have gotten along superficially, but I can’t explain those things otherwise.
You know he had a rare form of head and neck cancer, right? He had to endure a horrific surgery that involved breaking his jaw and cutting his face open to remove the tumor. He got another 10 years before the cancer took his life. His voice was beautiful. Listen to his songs on Good Times, they are amazing.
Because Mickey, Davy and Mike were the main singers. He did sing a few hits like “Shade of Gray” and “Words.” The Monkee Machine” did him dirty and he had to find his own niche.
My favorite songs on the Monkees' TV series were the "Mike Nesmith" songs. I hated the kosher CRAP from Don Kirshner's Brill Building. They were BULLSHIT. They SUCKED.
Playing on you own album is all very noble..but, Nesmith himself later said that The Monkees themselves took 50 takes to do one song....where pro session musicians would do it in 5 takes. Once the Monkees took to writing all their own hits...they never once produced anything as successful as their earlier hits.
I will always love the Monkees

It's weird, because at one time Pete & Mike shared a house.I loved Peter's Bop.

@@LGKids Couldn't agree more & Peter was my fav guy.
Sadly passed today. Will always love The Monkees.
That high five at the end is everything.

True then, and true today. Thank you, Peter Tork.
Mike could care less about fame & money because when his mom passed away he inherited 25 million bucks
Hey Peter (in Heaven)... I still have all my Monkees ALBUMS and I still play them.
Because PETE WAS the ULTIMATE HIPPIE!!! MISS HIM EVERY DAY!
I’ll miss him. When I went to their concert in 2014, he made eye contact with me and I was as giddy as a schoolgirl.
for Pete's sake, rest in peace Peter tork your humor and gentle smile will be missed
RIP Mike, Peter and Davy. 🙏💜🙏
Rest easy, Peter...... 🙏🏼😔❤️

Pete, my first crush, ❤️ may you RIP❤️
Mine too
The high five at the end is so cute omg
I know nez said he and Peter didn’t get along all the time but they still loved each other like siblings
Better than some sibs I know.

did not know that or that played the organ on the track
Everyone from Davy to Micky to Mike and Peter had a equal hand in the Monkees success.
I'm glad to hear and see this video.
RIP Peter. You were always so adorable and far more talented than most realized. Him and Davy were my favorites and now they are both gone.
We were born to love one another
This is something we all need
That should be the anthem for all the countries of the world. But tell that to the blamed politicians.Love that shirt Pete.RIP Peter,Davy & Mike.
It was so cool when they played this during the end titles of the TV show- what great memories.
RIP Peter. Thanks for sharing ur talents with us. U have a special place in my heart. Peace and Love 🎸✌
Because of you and the guys I play guitar, bass, piano and drums. RIP
My favorite Monkees song!! RIP Peter,Mike and Davey,

Thank you for your generous love, heart, & lyrics, our beloved Peter Tork. You blessed us all. Nothing can ever replace you.
Always have and always will love the Monkees. They were so much part of my growing up years. They just wove right into my life! Great group! Wonderful music!
Didn't know Nez named the song. Great to see them both together on stage - Peter seemed very grateful to Mike.
Rest in peace, Pete! You and Davy can have your reunion now!
This is wonderful and with Nez too ~ RIP dear Peter!
RIP Peter - your awesome. Glad I was able to see you twice. The best concert was in Grand Haven Michigan on the beach in 1986
Great musician, sorely missed....
A wonderful yet underrated song. So necessary today. Thank you, Peter. Let us not forget that love is truly what we all need. This song and your memory shall endure in this generation and beyond.
Good song R.I.P. Peter
I've always loved this song!
Thanks for the music Peter and not forgetting Davy Jones. I am really grateful that I got to see The Monkees live 4 times and it was all four Monkees that I saw. Peace.
Paul Walters, I myself am deeply jealous.
To be sick Peter looked and acted great and could sing!!!

We love you, Peter, always.
The Monkees made my childhood much better. Listened to their music in my room doing homework wishing i could do what they did.
In his autobiography, Davy Jones called FOR PETE'S SAKE one of his favorite songs by anybody, not just the Monkees.
Wonderful song! He sings it beautifully 😍
Miss you
I hope you are now free in Heaven. I loved the song and your singing. Thanks for all the good memories. Love, Diane
Loved peter
I loved

The MONKEES - ALL

@@chiefinspector7280 Marry, Mary, Listen to the Band, Randy Scouse Git, The Closing Theme Song (For Pete's Sake) Uncle Gene's Blues ....
Davy may not have wrotten material but he was just as talented as the others in his own way. All four were just so talented and fantastic guys.
One of my favorite Monkees songs.
R.I.P to my favorite Monkee :(
RIP Peter.
Rest in peace, Peter.
R.I.P. ~ ROCK ON!!!!!!!

RIP Peter 🙏
please send Mickey love for his birthday this year. For those who do not know it is March 8. he lost Davy now he has lost Pete just before it must be too much
I couldn't remember the date, thank you.
I remember the date. Micky's birthday is the same as my grandmother's.
Nice
Michael talked about that when he passed and was visibly upset he lost him.
This was the song they played at the end of the show during closing credits for the second season
Weeping...
Aura3 covers this tune and Pete Tork plays the bango on it. It's exellent look it up!

Man, remember his voice? Even like 10 years ago he still sounded similar. Hearing him now and seeing Mike makes me terrified of getting older.
layladystay I think that the tongue cancer affected Peter’s voice. His voice seems like it’s getting much better in the last few years.
Rip peter
I can appreciate what you're saying, but I think, especially considering their recent health problems, they have aged quite gracefully. R.I.P. Peter.

Kenny Murphy Absolutely. Mike had an autoimmune disorder and heart surgery. I heard him live in March and he was great.
Mickey sung the orig I believe.
Was Micky absent?
He had a nice voice. Why didn't he sing on The Monkees?
Because Mickey, Davy and Mike were the main singers. He did sing a few hits like “Shade of Gray” and “Words.” The Monkee Machine” did him dirty and he had to find his own niche.
@@Gaylel1 Well said.
Where's Micky?
Where's mickey
Love this song that he co-wrote, and his piano riff on Day Dream Believer, but he was not a singer,
Peter needs to get closer to the microphone.
shame the sound is so shitey !
do you mean "shitty"?
Depends if he meant shitty - he may have meant shitey. I'm a shite man when the occasion demands
He look ill here and very thin
I think so too. Bummer.
He was battling cancer.
My favorite songs on the Monkees' TV series were the "Mike Nesmith" songs. I hated the kosher CRAP from Don Kirshner's Brill Building. They were BULLSHIT. They SUCKED.
Great song acoustics terrible
its a spontaneous bootleg by a fan, just glad to even have it at all
Mike was the best in the group. The others were not at performance level.
Still, they were very talented for a fake band.
