Easily one of the most under appreciated musicians alive. He's so talented as were and are all four of the Monkees. They all deserve more respect than they've gotten. Peter is super cute!
Joseph Nania Peter has said that the violin was the only instrument he couldn’t master. He wasn’t boasting. Orchestra Kentucky honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award. He honored them by composing a classical piece.
Never heard this before. What a great song. I keep finding fantastic gems individually from each Monkees member on youtube that i had no idea existed. Chalk up another one. Thank you youtube. Thank you Peter.
Oh, Peter! We won’t see you you play the banjo or dance soft shoe but you have left us a legacy of music and more. We thank you and continue to love you.
Wow! I heard him play this much later and he was almost apologetic about it, major league wonderful to see him pulling out all the stops on it! Much to learn from this track, as wholly ole wonderful as Rev Peyton! Thanks so much!
the video is hot-Peter is hot-the banjo is tutorial-and creative art advice is given-this video has it all-the sexiest banjo player ever-no doubt about it
PETER TORK is and was a greater talent that has been known - I always likes his banjo - guitar and piano playing even way back then , Joe Nania a.k.a. Hollywood Joe
I think he's always shaked those hips (not that I mind). He does it in Star Collector and even now if you watch their newer stuff. He has a ton of energy for being in his 70's and a cancer survivor. And he can still be funny; seems like all he has to do is make faces and have the audience rolling. And those double entendres of his make me smile. "It's nice to have you on the show". (Peter smiling) "It's very nice to be had."
I've loved Peter for years and years and years....I enjoy every single thing about him. If I could have him for my plaything for even one day, my life would be totally complete! :)
I just wish I could have seen the Monkees in their 1986/87 comeback. I'd heard their new songs on the radio but at the time I was stationed in Louisiana in the middle of nowhere. If I had a time machine I'd go back to 1986 and watch Peter dance in those red leathers (believe me, he still had it) with his cute antics and that long lovely strokeable hair.....
He didn't really like the Monkees show. He disliked how the others got to play characters based on their real personalities, whereas Peter had to play the dumb one.
This was from the Tampa/St.Pete Florida area when Peter came to Florida for concerts and to make an appearance at a Monkees Convention in March that the Monkee Maniacs Fan Club was putting on. Thanks for sharing this - great memories!
Another one to check out is The Monkees - Shades of Grey (live 1989) you can cut & paste that too. Peter is singing and was definitely working out at the time. He usually wears muscle shirts, but here he's wearing a barely-there tank top and those red leathers. Definitely showing off those new guns. Oh yeah, and he sings really well too.
A little more checking, I've discovered you are both. I'm going to the convention next year as well! Super excited! (As long as they confirm Peter and Micky! (and Mike) Seeing Mike next month!
GREAT seeing my favorite Monkee without those 3 pesky distractions. Even post-Monkees he was so energetic and silly and just naturally funny. Looks like he never overcame that problem with obesity. (LOL) Thanks for posting this!
jessie james , but that’s what paid the bills...take the money when it’s there paying for your good looks and do something with it. Making it on your own as an artist seems nearly impossible. All it takes is 10 years to build a great solid foundation. People think these groups had overnight success but they had at least 10 years of practice and experience walking in. I take the money in my occupation while it’s there. At this point I would like to be freed of it for how it’s handled, but not over job content. People are fleeing right and left and I flew the coop myself. I dread going back but I have to. At least I live like a rockstar when I come home.
Davy was my fave Monkee, but you were next then. You were such a cutie. Mike was too serious for me, and Mickey was a smart aleck. I always had a soft spot for Peter on the show. He was a little slow, but so sweet. May you rest in peace in Heaven, Peter, until we meet again. Love always, Diane
Peter Tork is a true talent he deserved something better than the Monkees. Both he and Mike were the true artist in that group. It is too bad the people who created the group couldn't see that and let Mike and Peter write and produce the songs in the group I believe you would have heard some very good music coming from them instead of the teenage bubble gum stuff they were forced to sing.
Yes, Peter is a true talent. As is Mike and yes, Micky and Davy. Original songwriting was welcomed by the powers that be. Mike did indeed write many songs and truly began the Country Rock genre. Peter wrote two songs that I know of. Micky wrote too. Micky and Davy were consummate artists and lifelong professionals. Because of Davy, Broadway Rock was born. I disagree with the opinion that Peter deserved better. The Monkees TV show gave Peter a lifelong platform to perform. To perform is what any talented performer wants for the whole of their life. Peter has enjoyed that desire even to the now, in his seventies. It has enabled him to build his blues band, Shoe Suede Blues and to enjoy that part of his life immensely. The Monkees catapulted the guys into lifelong fame and opportunity. Raybert, The “people” who created the show deserve our continuing thanks for bringing the show to life and for giving us Peter, Micky, Davy and Mike. RIP Manchester Cowboy...
this is one of the most adorable things I have ever seen in my life, I wish he would have performed "lovey dovey.' sadly when this was airing, I was in diapers...age is just a number peter...call me.
You should check out the video "The Monkees - I'm a Believer - Live on TV 1989" (you can cut and paste that title). He is absolutely adorable in that one. If I were one of those ladies next to him I'd have to decide. Should I touch his lovely hair or play with his knees?
This is amazing. I recall when Peter sang on any Monkees songs (which was rare; Shades of Gray is the only one I can think of), his voice was ok, but nothing outstanding. But his voice is amazing here. He really can sing. 💙
I grew up watching The Monkees, and as all the girls had a crush on Davey... this little boy had a crush on Peter. His straight haircut, dimples, and tight pants did it for me! 🥰
I heard that a Banjo is difficult to play. Peter's voice sounds different here. He sang differently for The Monkees' songs. Peter was originally a Folk singer in various Coffee houses, before The Monkees.

Ain't That The Truth 😎👊💯💯
Never heard this before.
What a great song.
I keep finding fantastic gems individually from each Monkees member on youtube that i had no idea existed.
Chalk up another one.
Thank you youtube.
Thank you Peter.
I still have a massive crush on Peter. So stinkin adorable.
Very much miss him. I could just squeeze him!

Oh, Peter! We won’t see you you play the banjo or dance soft shoe but you have left us a legacy of music and more. We thank you and continue to love you.
This was great to see, thank you!!! RIP Peter
Great performance. He later cut a similar version for his solo LP, "Stranger Things Have Happened." Thanks for posing this.
Peter is so talented and cute and moves really nice too! Wow...check out that dimple on his cheek! sooo cute!! He is so fun and great sense of humor!

Peter Tork doesn't only play the banjo; he seduces it with his hip moves.
Later on it was discovered that banjo was pregnant.

Such a different and spectacular side of Peter and his music ive never seen. Wow wow wow this was just an amazing find!
I LOVE to watch him dance. He can't play music and NOT get into it. He's the cutest thing.
Wow! I heard him play this much later and he was almost apologetic about it, major league wonderful to see him pulling out all the stops on it! Much to learn from this track, as wholly ole wonderful as Rev Peyton! Thanks so much!

What a talent, from the Monkee who was considered the ditzy one.
He didn't really like the Monkees show. He disliked how the others got to play characters based on their real personalities, whereas Peter had to play the dumb one.
he was never considered the ditzy one - his character in the monkees was the dummy - the real PT never was
The man sure can move his hips. Dayum
Peter, Peter, Peter 😍 😍
The guns. THE GUNS! I never noticed his arms before.
He loved his banjo! I love him. Miss him Davy and Mike
This was from the Tampa/St.Pete Florida area when Peter came to Florida for concerts and to make an appearance at a Monkees Convention in March that the Monkee Maniacs Fan Club was putting on. Thanks for sharing this - great memories!
I always loved Peter cause he was the cutest one. But in this video, he is really hot!

Generally General Lee Yes, he was something else. I loved him WITHOUT the Monkees. He was so underappreciated. It was a crime!
Ultimate talent. Miss you Peter. Remembering you always. May you ,Davy, and Mike be united together in Rock and Roll Heaven
they were all musical geniuses in their own right. they didnt like being a bubblegum band group or forced to be sold as one on tv, etc

so cool. Petes awesome
I dig his dance moves. R.i.p

And he was the super, super intelligent one in reality. The only one truly acting, although, his sweet nature was his x
Holy Cow he’s wearing a Red Sox shirt! Obsessed with these guys while growing up. Great rendition. Great musician. Miss him.
Just love this Peter's amazing ❤
I LIKE LOVE Lovey Pete Tork
never noticed his ears!! reminds me of LORDS OF THE RINGS
He probably wears the buckle to the side so he doesn't scratch his banjo or guitars.
Damn... R.I.P Peter :(
Always loved him. Big Monkees fan.
$2.50 for a record. Loved the old way of selling. Mike was the best as he wrote some great songs but Peter was a favorite.
It should have been a single.

Oh my god. Arms....dancing....and the banjo....THUD.
RIP Mr. Tork!
Pete was actually a very good singer
Well, as far as singing talent, I would say of the four of them, he comes in fourth. But I still love him.
What is with the ears? Love him!
The Master looks a little grungy here. I love how he does this song in the 2001 MOnkees concert
RIP peter you are missed
Mmm I could just watch Pete gyrate his hips so arousingly all day... 😂😰😜
He played Excellent!!!
I knew i was right about Peter..even as a little girl..RIP♡
I could watch him shake those hips all day.
I will! I LOVE The Monkees - Steppin' Stone - Live 2001
Pick the banjo Peter. I love that instrument. It may scare some people but I like that sound.Mike Nesmith ofcourse used it on various songs.
The video doesn't focus on his dancing but his dance skills are awesome
4:25. Peter, still in "Monkee zany" mode, same as they guys used to act in their show 15 years earlier. Still great!
"Rest in peace"Mr.Tork
Very cool!!!
this is one of the most adorable things I have ever seen in my life, I wish he would have performed "lovey dovey.' sadly when this was airing, I was in diapers...age is just a number peter...call me.
that woman must be a kindergarten teacher on the side...
Blast if the past but number one❤️
The best!!
Peter had a cool country version of the 1967 Jackie Wilson classic.
Third album and beyond, we could see it.
You should check out the video "The Monkees - I'm a Believer - Live on TV 1989" (you can cut and paste that title). He is absolutely adorable in that one. If I were one of those ladies next to him I'd have to decide. Should I touch his lovely hair or play with his knees?
YES, yes I could!!!!! And look what he does with those hands!!!!!
I know! Have you watched him play Bach on 33 1/3 Revolver? My God. Imagine what those hands could do...
This is amazing. I recall when Peter sang on any Monkees songs (which was rare; Shades of Gray is the only one I can think of), his voice was ok, but nothing outstanding. But his voice is amazing here. He really can sing. 💙

the bomb
Kind of wanted to see that potato.
It's in Peter's pocket. Watch again.
It's in Peter's pocket. Watch again.
nice stuff thanks
How'd you liked to have been the guy to follow Peter Tork with a baked potato recipe?
Go Red Sox!
Great segue
impressive, and I don't impress easily..
Yes, me too
The quality of the video is horrible, but Peter is definitely, uh, well dressed.
I heard that a Banjo is difficult to play.
Peter's voice sounds different here. He sang differently for The Monkees' songs.
Peter was originally a Folk singer in various Coffee houses, before The Monkees.
wow
Holy crap! Does he have a sock of quarters in his pocket?!?!
Yes. I'm a friend of his. That is why.
Dang good picker..n singer
When I started collecting Monkees LPs in 1985 the narrative was that Nesmith was 'the talented one'
Jeez, never knew about this....
