I have the same Harbor Freight bearing press. They used to sell a smaller one too. I could only get the 12 ton when I needed it ….. the smaller one will do fine if you can get it. When you go to put the new bearing in you need to shim up the hub/bearing carrier level otherwise you will pinch the bearing if not level. Also it’s recommended to put some locktite inside the hub when you press in the bearing. I have that grease tool for the bearing also. Just don’t get carried away when you put the grease in. You just need a little grease….. rotate the grease tool as you put the grease in to get the grease distributed evenly. You don’t have to take that top part off that you did first to take the bearing carrier off. Just the three bolts on the carrier itself. Once again if you check the Polaris service manual it warns to use new bolts plus locktite for those two bottom bolts on the carrier and torque to spec. You can download the service manual from the internet for free. I do recommend using the locktite for sure on those bolts …… I would say maybe optional if you want to use new bolts if the old ones look decent. I got screwed once reusing the old bolts and not using locktite. After about 250 miles of trail riding the bolt on the front side of the hub had come lose and the only reason I didn’t lose it totally is the head of the bolt was trapped by the inside of the wheel rim. It ground the head of the bolt round. I had to change the bolts on both sides of the machine and I also had to go for a new hub. When the bolt backed out on one side it damaged the tread inside the cast aluminum hub and I didn’t want to chance having the new bolt getting cross treaded.
Those are all good points. I did use red loctite on the bottom bolts. I have seen several of them worn out, almost falling out. The bolts look new yet so I reused them. I like to take the top off so there is no pressure on anything and I can grease the other areas. This year didn't have grease zerks on the a arms like the older ones used to.
Buy the bearing greaser. Makes the bearings last way longer. Especially if you pack them when new. I find they can take up to 20 pumps of grease brand new. They come basically dry on grease.
@@TitaniummanGarage I run a polaris highlifter on 35s. Almost 2500 km and still on stock wheel bearings that have 0 wobble in them. I grease them every other ride. Pushes and moisture out
