This video is part 1 of how to replace a rear wheel bearing on a Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. This video demonstrates one way of removing the rear axle bearing without using a press. If you're following this video to replace your wheel bearing, take your time and be sure to use caution beating the old axle bearing out of the hub assembly. These repair instructions will be the same or similar to many other ATVs and UTVs. Please keep in mind that my videos are shade tree mechanic style and a dealership repair may involve other steps and torque specifications. The four-wheeler in this video was a 2003 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. I'll be posting a video on how to replace the front wheel bearings on this same ATV soon.

Bought a hydraulic press for 150.00 and race blocks for 20. What a time saver.
Brilliant help. Just got a polaris 2003 sportsman, and really useful to see what you do. Thanks!!!
good simple video giving me courage to go do my own wheel bearings thankyou
Awesome job!! I love the way you face forward through the UN-important areas. Thanks
It did. Couldn't find the correct sized deep socket to use to drive out the old ones so I used a 2 5/16 inch hitch ball. Not the easiest but it worked. Thanks Again!
Next time loosen the center hub nut BEFORE you remove the wheel, and the machine is on the ground. No need for any pipe methods, etc.
Like always great videos
Go to Harbor Freight & buy some Cotter pins they are cheap that way you always have a fresh one for the next job Thanks for the video I'm helping my riding bud,
" I'm not bleeding anywhere, yet"... 😅🤣😂
my axle is stuck hard in the housing I was wondring how at 10.40 in your video you just pull yours out can I bang the crap out of the cv axle to dislodge it
Good Info Mark. Thanks for the tips. Love your comment at 7:02-7:04 (Not Bleeding Yet) Ha Ha, Great video.
my kawasaki is a 2003 model, it has been through hell and back many times and the front bearings are still good. they roll freely and do not slop. i only had to take the axle nut off to get to the bearings inside the drum while i was checking the brake pads
PLEASE REPLY. My Polaris Trailboss 330 has some problems with the bearings. It sounds like dirt or mud in the bearings in the rear end. Is it some sort of axle bearings or wheel bearings?
I've learned so many stuff from your video I have a sportsman like yours but it's 2002 but I inherited it had a snapped axle theee torn CV bootsi fix think to you video and I got to do the rear bearings cuz they're warped because of the axle snapping
If you heat up the hub with a propane torch just a little bit that bearing will pop out with one smack! To install the bearing again a little heating of the hub and the bearing will literally slide in without any force needed!
Take bearing put in bag put in freezer. Heat cast with a torch old bearing will slip out, lube new bearing lil she will slide in easy no tapping
I use a fwd axle bearing press and I don't even have to take the hub off the 4wheeler.
Just paid someone $250 + to change mine 2015 570
This is my plans for the weekend - excellent video. I think even I can pull this off! (I went the easy way and got a press, but good to know there are other viable options)
***** Well, that was the plan - the carrier didn't want to release the hub... Finally got them apart and now 1/2 the bearing is stuck on the carrier side - balls exposed on hub. I think this just got expensive.
What size socket do you use to punch out the old bearings and is it normal for both rear bearings go out before the front
Let's see smokie burnouts with that Camaro
Have you considered an electric impact on all bolted ? Question, Using a pipe on ratchet could it possibly add to much torque causing it to break? I am a novice, trying to learn. Thank you.
Привет из России!
А почему ты просто не нагрел ступицу?
Подшипник сам оттуда выпадит и также легко встанет новый! Век живи век учись)))
Are the bearings pre- greased?
Get an impact man. Save the hassle
Thanks
Thanks for the great video.
This helped alot! Thanks!
i have a 2006 efi - will the above links for amazon work? it doesnt look like the bearing puller is a specific product - thank you !
can you post new links for me ? thank you
you need a press makes that bearing job a 5 min job. instead of beating up the
would it be possible that it does a clicking sounds instead of a squeak???
set that rotor up on some wood blocks , be lots easier
the knuckle and your knuckles
Get a ship press. Cheap!
that is a front wheel. not a rear wheel.
