This is what ended Freaknik in Atlanta. Students from all over the United States converging in one area with drinking and partying. The crowds progressed in size every year bringing in more revenue for the city. However, the same revenue had to be spent by the city for more police to curtail the violence and crime that came along with the event. Unlike the Madi Gras with shows and other events, more attention was focused on college students drinking and drugging.

I remember that, when I was working contract security down at Fulton County Government Center we were working 12-hour shifts, days off work cancelled. You actually had to have contract officers standing on the walkway bridge over Pryor Street, between government center and Superior Court acting as spotters to assist deputies, police officers trying to monitor the ground for potential incidents in the area I remember one night one of our officers working after-hours when public entrances to the building were closed having to assist who ran into the revolving door entrance at 181 Central Avenue where Justice Center Tower is located she ran in with her clothes torn saying that she had been assaulted and chased. She was so scared we couldn't get a description but we did call Grady EMS and also file a report given the little information we did have. I didn't have a problem with Freaknik but I did have a problem with the facts that they tied up traffic all over downtown, Midtown The Greenbrier Mall area and Lenox area. A lot of the First Responders especially EMTs and paramedics were extremely angry ., because the number of cars who did not know the area or either intoxicated or High caused major traffic backup which affected response time. This was a event that basically killed itself off due to its own success. It was too many people trying to go to the same places at exactly the same time over and over again

Ok, so are they blaming the students or the actual criminals? If it's the criminals then it's not the fault of the students causing the violence, that would be the fault of the local government for not protecting the students. Maybe a boycott of Miami for Spring break would be sufficient. That wouldn't be very hard to organize students around. If the city of Miami has something up their sleeve, they shouldn't put the blame solely on the backs of students, which is exactly what they're doing. Something is very suspect here.
