We in the black community need to have honest conversations like this,in order for us to make a change for the better. I also wouldn't say it's just the youth committing acts of violence it's adults as well. There are so many layers to this problem.

Correction: Black Culture is the biggest enemy in the nation. Why? Because who else is capable of taking an already existing devastating situation like Covid and find new creative ways to make it even worse? Fuckin' black people. I grew up playing violent video games as well as watching violent movies and listening to violent rap music. That may have had an effect on me but nothing ever erased the lessons of my upbringing in church and the teachings about God. As a 48 year old man today I have to believe that those teachings along with my grandmother's prayers helped me make it out when so many others I've grown and laughed with didn't. We must teach them about God early so that even if they stray such as I did, they'll return.

May I ask if you had a father around when you were a boy?
Now that you are older (and wiser) you can now see how bad things in your environment was and how subjective you were to it all. Having two parents and real discipline in a household is very important.
Religion is not the answer as you dont need religion to know the different between right and wrong. A child needs supervision while thier brain is developing.

This is a very interesting topic. I am a 50 year old black man in Dallas. I allowed my son to play some very disturbing and dangerous games as a child. I didn’t like them but we often had conversations about reality vs a video game and understanding this should not be fun to kill people or to use a game to be thrilled by total destruction. My son today at 22 is a educated black young man and working on his professional life. He’s focused. The interactive parent is important to any child’s future development. On the other hand my fiancé has a 22 year old boy living in our home. He will not work, he is not focused and has no motivation to do anything. No matter how much I talk to him he’s like a lost soul. His mother treats him like a child. He defends him like a child. All 3 of her children have had serious legal issues and she gets mad at the legal system as if the law did something bad to her child. I have 3 kids all college educated and working professionals. I was raised by a single back mother but that was in the 70’s, 80’s and into the early 90’s. So yes my mother was strict on my brother and I. We weren’t raised on the types of video games these kids play. We also spent more time outside doing things and in sports and to be in sports you had to make good grades. Today to most black kids sports is no longer important so they can give a D about grades. Their living in this fake social media world detached from reality. It’s not just black kids, it’s all kids but we’re seeing too many of our children on TV. To the country the appearance is black kids are out of control. White and Latino kids are doing the same things. We have a very serious issue facing the future of our country. If our youth are living in this fake social media reality where reality can be augmented and you have politicians playing into these false realities and creating topics and conversations to engage our youth we are eventually doomed as a nation. This is bigger than just young back kids out of control at spring break.

First, it sound shocking that you two would be together especially if she condones her son's lack of accountability. Secondly, dont mean to scare you or anything but I would be concerned. If the young man is irresponsible and you keep trying to push your agenda of being a good parent who is to say he may figure its better to get rid of the problem which is you. As much as you raise these concerns, you also have to think about the real problem you have on your hands. Love does not always solve everything and can land you in real trouble or worse. Good luck.

So, for those of us that says not all black youths act this way, it’s not qualifying, it’s stating a fact. People need to actually start parenting their children, instilling values in them and actually raising them to be productive adults….that’s what is needed. As you stated in your comment, it starts at home, not school, church and definitely not social media. Schools and churches are not there to parent and discipline children, they are there to teach children, and, in some cases, the church is there to help. As for social media? I am a melenated female and I, myself, have been aggressively confronted when addressing issues & behaviors when it comes to peoples children.
It comes down to the quality of life a person has experienced.
The class of a person is also a big catalyst in behaviors.
We can agree to disagree without being violent with one another & civil people can come to peaceful resolutions to issues.
But when you are dealing with low vibrational people, you will reap low vibrational resolves. And that applies to ALL hues of humans.
I've witnessed low class behaviors across the board.
We ALL must learn to be stepping stones for one another and not stumbling blocks.
And PARENTS need to PARENT instead of allowing the streets to raise their spawn ....then when crooked or cowardly law enforcement shoots them, then they want to be in an uproar. And THAT also applies to all humans...I am not only speaking on "black" people. I am speaking in general.

Are you surprised that a pastor thinks the lack of religion is the first on the list? He is right, there is a serious lack of structure and moral teaching in our country today. I think they all go hand in hand. The government could do more by actually being more proactive about punishing criminal behavior. Right now it seems to be lawlessness out there and no one is doing anything about it.

No one is exaggerating the problem, it is all too real and plainly visible, denial is not an option. I think a lot of kids are raised in homes where violence cursing and acting out are the family dynamics. When children are raised in an angry hostile environment that condones and encourages violence this inevitably is the result. And the cycle continues into next generations

Love Can Build without Wood, Steel, Glass or Mud and Make a Home, For The Heart is where Love Abides and Resides.
Love can Grow without Food, But Food without Love will leave you Famished. LOVE Can Increase in Value Without Money, but Money without Love Has No True Value at All. Love brings Life and Comfort To The Sick, but Those Sick without Love Present will find no True Relief. Love between one or Few is a Cup Overflowing, But where there is one Amongst Many without Love, can Be the Loneliest Place on Earth. Love can Even be found in A Stranger and Yet Rare in a Friend or Family Member.
Love Can Be Experienced at A First Meeting and Never Felt after Having Many. LOVE is Often Found Where You Think it's Not, and Where You Think it Is It's NOT! Love Can Light The Darkness, And Warm The Soul, but Without it We're Blind And Cold.
Love Never Ages or Becomes Old, it's Both Timeless and Eternal.
It Never Dies, even When it Sacrifices itself and Never Kills Except in defense Against Hate, for The Object of What it Loves. Love's Wise, Without Ego. Loyal Dependable and Never Gives up or Let's Go, For it Holds on by letting Go. Never By Force of Will, it Frees You To Will The Choice You Feel. It Can Be Devotion Without Emotion But Never The Other Way Around.
No Human However Can Ever Know this Kind of Love until They Know it in it's Simplest Form, in it's Origin! For only God is Love and we're but a Mere Fraction of The Reflection of That Love.
