    It’s been 4 years since I watched this video and made some drastic changes to how I cared for my skin. I know a lot of the problems I had and still have to a small degree were heavily linked to hormones and my diet but now with better diet and the right products it’s been better then ever, it had helped control and practically eliminate eczema flare ups in winter, with each roll of high monthly hormones it clears up a little bit more too. I can’t believe how it’s much more common to find information on how to scrub your skin off until it’s raw then actually understand how it functions. I am eternally grateful for teaching us.

      Rose mou I have combination skin and its always been a real pain finding out if my skin wanted to be oily or dry that day lol. I use jojoba as an oil cleanser at night. I massage it on my face for a couple minutes before exfoliating with a warm wash cloth. I use tamanu oil only at night because its a thick oil. I pat a couple drops of tamanu on my face, focusing on my forehead to clear acne scars (I SEE BIG DIFFERENCES IN MY SKIN IN THE MORNING). And I use rosehip as a light moisturizer in the morning before applying my sunscreen. I usually just wear rosehip oil and sunscreen throughout the day. Hope that helps!! 💙

    • @avarice187
      @avarice187 5 років тому +232

      Because it doesn't exist. It may seem* that way. However, acne is caused by an overproduction of sebum (oil). Dry skin is the absence of sebum. What you're most likely referring to, is dehydrated skin (the absence of water). Skin cannot be both acne ridden & dry, simultaneously Try hyaluronic acid & layer/seal it with rose hip seed, squalane or jojoba oil :)

    i got into an accident when i was in 11th grade and it left me with a nasty scar near my knees. my friend from Philippines recommended me tamanu oil, she showed me her before vs after scar and it was crazzyyy. so i bought it and months later, the scar has faded! now it's still there but the color has faded so much to the point where i can wear short pants / skirt with more confidence. so yes, tamanu oil is indeed amazing for hyperpigmentation

    Oils that I couldn't live without and saved my life by lifting up my self confidence:
    1) Grapeseed oil, I use it in the morning before sunscreen and loose powder + lip balm (if I need to go out of the house, if not, I'll stop at the sunscreen and lipbalm).
    2. Pomegranate oil, I use it at night mixed with grapeseed oil (or any lighter oils that I bought/had, e.g. rosehip, licorice, rice bran, sunflower, etc...but for the last 2 years, I stick with the grapeseed oil because it's the most effective for me and super cheap).
    And that's it. I've been using only face oils since 2017, and my face is actually never feeling healthier. I look better now at 44 than back when I was 22, I used to have super oily skin, terrible acne around the mouth, dull, and patchy. Now I have normal skin, and although I do have wrinkles (I got premature menopause from losing both my ovaries to cysts in 2013 and all my other reproduction system 2 months ago) I still feel like a decent looking middle-aged woman. No botox, no fillers, no plastic surgeries...I just stick to face oils religiously. Thank you, Liah. ❤

      I don't think you need more than one oil in your routine, especially since oils are not going to be the most effective product in helping with your concerns listed (acne-prone, hyperpigmentation) however if you were to use an oil, I would use it at night either final step after moisturizer or mixed with your moisturizer. You only need a very little amount. because in the morning I fear that a nourishing oil will interfere with the daytime protection that you have from your sunscreen, which is more important than any facial oil.

    5:32 Grapeseed oil is an oil I have been using every night for almost a year. I am so surprised not many people know about it! It ALWAYS makes those big red pimples get smaller each day so it never evolves into a pustule. On top of that, it moistures my face for 24 hours! I only wash my face at night since my face gets too dry, but with grape-seed oil my face is always moisturized. Also grapeseed oil is the only moisturizer that does not clog my pores especially since it’s noncomedogenic. I have never used a moisturizer this long before, I really recommend it! Even if yo have small bumps!! Also I only use it at night, because obviously I don’t want my face looking shiny in the day as the oil soaks into my skin. When I put it in at night, it soaks into my skin and by morning my skin looks naturally refreshed with no excess oils

Previously my nails had been continuously damaged and split. I’ve been using tamanu and rosehip seed oil, as I’ve had these at home. • @britneyevans8317
      @britneyevans8317 5 років тому +22

      April That is absolutely incorrect. Under eye darkness can be a number of things including oversleeping, extreme fatigue, age, Eye strain, allergies, dehydration, son over exposure, iron deficiency anemia, liver damage, genetics, or a congenital condition. Do NOT give life altering medical advise when you have no clue what you are talking about. The point of blood thinners is to keep the blood moving smoothly through the veins and arteries, NOT for cosmetic purposes. Blood thinners can be very dangerous for people who do not need them and for someone who may have an unknown underlying condition. If an anemic person sees your comment and starts taking blood thinners, they could get a minor injury and bleed to death because their blood will have too much anticoagulant in it. You are not a dr and should not be giving medical advice so matter-of-factly.

Castor oil absolutely cleans your face, but it can be quite drying to the face so for oily face you can add more but deff for dry skin put it less

    Slay me Miss Liah! I've been using Tamanu for years - it's excellent when used in tandem with retin-a/ol and/or a mild acid like lactic for quickly regenerating new tissue after acne PIR/scarring. Totally smoothed the topography of old scar areas near my chin. Marula is also great and the newest addition has been sea buckthorn (which pro-tip, is actually excellent for balancing out the silvery purple cast from non nano mineral sunscreens - you only need the tiniest drop!). Id say half of my skincare owes itself to powerful oils - the rest is just a mild cleanser, zin oxide and maybe one or two long term rotating actives like a retinol or vit c.

    so i ordered the exact same roseship oil, tamanu oil and the etude house (sunflower oil) moisturizer a couple weeks ago, and heres my results!!
    Etude House Barrier Intensive Moisturizer: This stuff is amazzzinnggg. It’s so lightweight, and gives my skin a glowly look. I love that its fragrance-free, and feels so refreshing!! I used to have a mask that literally burns when i put it on, but didnt have that effect for anyone else i know. after watching a couple of liah’s videos, i know now that my skin barrier was so damaged. I can now use that mask without it burning!!! my skin barrier is healed❤️❤️
    Roseship oil: super lightweight, kinda of a nutty smell, but its not that strong and i dont mind it. I feel like the smell goes away when i start to pat it on my skin. I use this on top of the moisturizer, it emphasises the glowly look which i lovvee, and it locks in the moisturizer as well as moisturizes further. After the etude house moisturizer and this, my skin feels amazing.
    Tamanu oil: i wish I discovered this oil before. I’ve had stubborn acne for about three years, and of course with acne comes acne scars. Usually after every pimple i have, theres hyperpigmentation or a scar. I had a really bad pimple on my cheek the other day and thought obviously im going to get another scar, and i put tamanu oil to see if it would work. I woke up today and theres minimal hyperpigmentation AND NO SCARRING!!!! In the past, i would have gotten a icepick scar, BUT THANK GOD FOR THIS OIL!!!! highly highly recommend

    Which oil should I go for if I have redness around the nose and some acne marks that won't fade away? Is it enough with tamanu oil?

    • @93runninggiraffes

      I had similar skin issues... and I find that tamanu helps dramatically with acne scars, but is too heavy (potentially) on its own... and since I had acne scars in my acne prone areas, I found that using with broccoli seed and rosehip seed oils I am able to treat scarring, while also preventing new breakouts and calming redness (around nose and chin).

      @@93runninggiraffes I did order some tamanu oil and rosehip seed oil, I will mix the rosehip with my moisturizer and use the tamanu as a spot treatment since I heard it was best to use it as such. Let us see how it works out :)

    With the hemp seed oil, do I use it on it's own, or do I put a few drops into my moisturizer and then apply it to my face?

    Wow, that was helpful, thank you. I liked your specific recommendation of how to use jojoba oil. Can you give specifics for how and when to use the other oils, i.e., every day, once a day, once a week, etc.?

    I started pairing a very good anti-scar ointment (look for Fitoscar, not sure how hard it is to find it other countries) with just a few drops of coconut oil on my face/neck/cleavage before going to sleep. It's been just 1 one week and it has made WONDERS. I am of mixed skin and I used to break all the time even as an adult and had scars all over. They are almost invisible now most of the time, and still getting better. I have only seen the smallest pimple ever (not even red) during the week and it disappeared in one~two days. Absolutely in love!! I want to try different oils now. Definitely will use anti-oxidant with sunscreen during daytime and unclogging/cell renewal before going to sleep. Thank you for sharing your research with us. :)

    What do you think of unrefined shea butter and African black soap?

    • @kristinaj9159
      @kristinaj9159 5 років тому +2

      I assume she's fine with them especially since the cream she talks about contains shea butter. And African black soap is know for treating your skin pretty good but a lot of them in stores aren't real or aren't 100%

    • @annabassirou

      Do NOT use soap on your face it is drying by nature, especially african black soap please believe me it messed me up 2 years ago !!! About Shea butter I’m not sure myself but it might me occlusive and clog your pores, but I still have faith in it with moderation

      Anna Keita what do you recommend other than soap for dry skin?

    • @annabassirou
      @annabassirou 5 років тому +1

      kimtae Hyungg Oil cleansing / a creamy cleanser ! in my case I use a mix of a pharmaceutical cleanser for dry skin that I have had for a long time and sunflower seed oil, because the cleanser was too drying for my skin and oil cleansing for 60+ seconds is GREAT, but I was tired of the mess and having to double cleanse with 2 different products. I have seen so much improvement since I stopped using soap. You didn’t ask but I’m putting it out anyway : it’s thanks to @MakeupforWOC on twitter that I saw explain how soap is drying by it’s very nature

      Shea butter is rated a 0 on the comedogenic scale, so it shouldn’t break you out (though some sources seem to differ, it’s always between 0-2). As for African Black Soap, it’s worked great for me. However I have oily skin, so I wouldn’t recommend it for someone with dry skin. I also mix it with some Shea butter to make it less drying.
