for anyone not familiar with those chapters of American history:
Firehoses were used to blast protesters who were marching for civil rights in Birmingham (they were led by MLK Jr, who was arrested during the events and later composed his famous “Letter From Birmingham Jail” in response).
A few years later, in 1971, students at Kent State were protesting against the Vietnam War. The National Guard were sent in to squash the protests, and they ended up opening fire on the students, k1lling 4 and w0unding 9 others.

@@CaptainKrimsonHeart when he was first name-dropped in season 2, Stan Edgar - while giving Homelander the "real story" about Fredrick Vought - specifically states (1) that Soldier Boy DID fight in WW2("killing German soldiers by the dozens") and (2) that the success of soldier boy on WW2 is THE reason Vought was pardoned and allowed to found his company in the US.
So yes, turning around a season later and saying soldier boy *NEVER FOUGHT* in WW2 is a massive retcon

@@znerd3664 not quite, you can argue because it's so far back in history that the real reason Vought was pardoned was not because of active involvement with the war via Soldier Boy, but that Vought would bring over the formula for compound V for use to create super soldiers, plural. Kind of like the Manhattan project but with super power steroids
