He's not Homelander. When Soldier Boy killed people, it was in real fights. He saw real battles. He suffered real trauma. He underwent *real* abuse that wasn't covered up or handwaved away. (The way he was raised was socially accepted for his time period.) He was similarly "produced", but he wasn't manufactured. When he sees Homelander for the horrible, rotten creature that he is, he recognizes how bad things are. Sadly, because of his upbringing, his instincts are to begrudgingly admit that his father was right. At potentially the worst possible time too. But while that doesn't excuse any of his actions, you definitely don't blame him for trying. (And unfortunately coming to the wrong conclusions.)
he certainly is a product of his time. i think what makes him appealling is how brutallyself-aware he is. He's like butcher basically knows hes a monster but has come to terms with it and HATES ppl like homelander that deny what they are.

I can’t believe they introduced an amazing character like soldier boy for 4 episodes and then just threw him in the basement for season 4, doesn’t feel the same without him
He was written as a ticking time bomb and that served as the finale/climax of S3. They couldn’t keep him, they’d have to revive him and what would cheapen and regress the story.
I like how solider boy is pretty much captain America but is more accurate to the real world. Him seeing a gay couple especially both black and white would have him confused
That punch was a warning, we know how hard Soldier boy can hit, that was him being extremely restrained, just enough to put some sense back into Hughie, not to hurt him.
I haven't watched the show. Does Huey have some kind of damage reduction or healing power? Cuz even that punch would have killed a regular man a few times over.
Yeah, it kinda hurt to see everyone fighting him at the end. He’s not a good person by any means but not nearly as terrible or a threat as everyone was making him out to be, especially Starlight and MM. Both of them were more concerned about taking down Soldier Boy than Homelander.
Well, hiring one of the most charismatic actors out there and then expecting viewers to hate him was a possible wrong move. And yeah, Mother's Milk calling him a racist piece of shit came out of nowhere. He didn't say a single racist thing whole season like the writers forgot to add that, so they had that line so we remember we are suppose to root for the boys. If he was racist would he hang out with Bill Cosby? Yeah, that has a different set of bad to it, but obviously not racism. Also, he kept his word to Butcher making him the only man of his words on the show.
he was the best of the season, they have to bring him back, Jensen is such a good actor than even SB being an asshole, we all still wish a redemption arc for him
The fact that MM’s halothane gas which is toxic to a regular human didn’t affect Soldier Boy but Bill Cosby’s drinks did is one of the funniest things the show has ever done
Jensen Ackles plays a belligerent cocky gung ho gramps SO FUCKING WELL it literally nearly ruins the show, but just dances on the line. It’s pure glory.
Bruh he was the best part of s3 imo, the one that's like nearly ruining the show was Butcher double crossing SB when he's fulfilling his end of the bargain

@@SSD_Penumbra He wrecked a car into Mother's Milk's home and instead of saving anyone he let them all die. @@FredrickTesla Again, compared to literally every other supe barring maybe Starlight, he's a saint. Look at Homelander, for example. Man kills for fun, goes off on a rant about how much better he is, straight up rapes people and not to mention the myriad of other creepy stuff he does. He didn't save MM's family because he had a mission to complete, and he didn't kill BN for that reason. He killed him because they all turned against HIM. When he found out, he fought them, managing to beat BN almost to death before the rest managed to get him. He was betrayed by them, not the other way around. That mirrors how Homelander betrays BN too.
@@HelloWorld-ti2zp I think you're assuming that he would be an average guy from that time period. Steve Rogers grew up in NYC as a poor, very sick kid at the height of eugenics being the popular thing. His views on people who were viewed as "inferior" might not be what you think. And at least in some versions of his story, he says that he doesn't hate or want to go off members of the predominant German political group at the time, and that he just didn't like bullies. Coming from a time when morally wrong views are commonplace does not mean one is necessarily going to hold said views. An average person from that time period will probably think like that. But the point of this particular character was always that he is a good man first, and a soldier second. Now if something like the super soldier serum was real, including amplifying a person's innate traits? Most people from any period of history taking that would scare me. But no, just being from that time period doesn't mean he would automatically be a bigot.

It was a better way of saying Soldier Boy got raped like he did in the comics but more so in a manner that wouldn’t cause complaints against the audience
Whats really amazing is how they built up Soldier Boys paranoia before the nun and preist scene. To where you're not sure if it is his paranoia or if he's being honest. Masterclass in setting the scene.
Well we already know he was an asshole before. I think the idea of a spin off after this would make more sense. They have little bits in the show that made soldier boy seem like he could be redeemable at least to a certain extent. He appeared to be remorseful about hurting those innocent people, he seemed confused about why his team would betray him, and somewhat hurt about his old man and his relationship when he was telling butcher about it. So that’s all good stuff that could be used to make his arc take a turn for good if he was to see the evil in his ways.
He and Jared and Misha all intentionally lowered their voices and actually wound up permanently lowering their voice registers. That can happen after 15 years speaking that way
They better bring him back, he has a PERFECT comedic back and forth with the entire cast (except MM for obvious reasons) and honestly deserves a redemption arc. Not a good guy by any means, but he at least has guts.

@@MarioFsx it definitely worked a little bit. it gave them an opening to slap the novichok on his face. even if mindstorm can’t put homelander in a coma, he can at least scramble his brain a bit and give everyone else an opening to beat his ass to death, which seems like it may be possible now since we know he can be injured
Soldier boy's biggest power is his durability, no other supe could survive being shot in their throat or other internal body areas, homelander literally bled when maeve inserted that metal tube in his ears, he's also mentally so durable that mindstorm struggled to put him to sleep when payback was betraying him, whereas mindstorm had no problem with working his mojo on butcher on temp V who was only a level weaker than homelander. Also Soldier boy doesn't age whereas in the new season we can clearly see homelander with the obvious signs of ageing like grey hairs and skin wrinkles. Whatever strength he lacks in term of flight or lasering abilities, he makes up for by his insane durability.
I've heard it's all because of how powerful the first iteration of Compound V created by Frederick Vought m was. The later versions were not as potent as the original. That's why Soldier Boy and Stormfront never aged while Homelander is starting to age
While yea i am sure he is durable, most supes can survive being shot in the throat or something easily. Hell, Kimiko gets shot tf up all the time and even gets her neck snapped, and she ends up fine
It could also be that soldier boy damaged homelander DNA when he expose to him a slight of his beam Making him having the effects of time Atleast this is the theory that is on going on the net To explain perhaps why homelander is aging

Best scenes in the season. They were so polarising and funny. It was the fact that soldier boy thinking his mannerisms were fucking normal that got me tho
It’s so crazy how the show tried to compare his morality at all to Homelander. Not once did SB at all make any attempt to go out of his way to kill people, or commit genocide. If the Boys left him alone, and he didn’t have the Shell-shock attacks, the world would be fine with him doing whatever.
He has more integrity than anyone in Vought or the Seven, with the very arguable exception being Starlight. Even then he showed more remorse for his accidental civvie kills than she did when murdeing some random dude for his car
Let's just hope they can keep his charisma and stormfronts "sexy bitch" attitude up for the entire show there coming out for them. It's hard to keep a show consistent. Especially with so many different series linked to the main. I mean, look at TWD
I love when Hughie gets the courage to call out Soldier Boy and gets punched right back to reality. Hung out with Butcher too long and thought he could mouth off to anyone without consequence.
props to soldier boy for showing restrain as he only gave hugie the softest slap he would have ever given to anyone. If it his was homelander he would have simply wiped Hugie off the face of earth with his lasers

3:40 "what'd you say?" ---"what?" "what?" ---"nuffin mate. no one said nuffin." that's gotta be the most accidentally funny thing ive ever seen out of this show lmao
I disagree. His will is weak. He indulges himself at every turn, can’t restrain his need for revenge and has an inferiority complex. He always needs to prove he is strong, even when he is the strongest person in the room. No better then a child always looking for approval. The reason why Mindstorm couldn’t bring him down was because of the abuse that he inflicted on every member of his team. Guy literally tried to control them using fear and wondered why they betrayed him. It was fear that prevented Mindstorm from finishing him off because he couldn’t concentrate. It would be similar to a child standing up to an abusive father. There is still the memory of abuse and that memory has a strangle hold on a persons confidence.
I agree and disagree. These old hard mindsets do get shit done better when its a simple hard situation. But once it comes to more complex longterm things that rely on cooperation they only get in the way

Extraordinary analysis. Top marks
he certainly is a product of his time. i think what makes him appealling is how brutallyself-aware he is. He's like butcher basically knows hes a monster but has come to terms with it and HATES ppl like homelander that deny what they are.

Coming from a time when morally wrong views are commonplace does not mean one is necessarily going to hold said views. An average person from that time period will probably think like that. But the point of this particular character was always that he is a good man first, and a soldier second.

Nah, resist the urge to suck everything dry.

He has more integrity than anyone in Vought or the Seven, with the very arguable exception being Starlight. Even then he showed more remorse for his accidental civvie kills than she did when murdeing some random dude for his car
Exactly my point. The show tried to make him look bad? lmao@@Dhomden
It is quite unnerving that people clamp on to Homelander comparisons as though they are in the same galaxy wtf
@TackyBunny his former teammates that absolutely deserve that shit, btw.
I want a Soldier Boy show.
You’re in luck.
You got your wish
Let's just hope they can keep his charisma and stormfronts "sexy bitch" attitude up for the entire show there coming out for them. It's hard to keep a show consistent. Especially with so many different series linked to the main. I mean, look at TWD
They hired such a cool and badass actor as a cool and badass character, hands down the best character in the show.
The smile after he says " we're going to need more reefer" classic
I love when Hughie gets the courage to call out Soldier Boy and gets punched right back to reality. Hung out with Butcher too long and thought he could mouth off to anyone without consequence.
That really took balls
Reality is that SB is a pussy with fake muscles. Hughey is the only one with balls since he's always the weakest one.
props to soldier boy for showing restrain as he only gave hugie the softest slap he would have ever given to anyone.
If it his was homelander he would have simply wiped Hugie off the face of earth with his lasers
@@sagarm1997 i might be incorrect but I do believe Hugie was on compound v at the time, and if he wasn't he would have been dead tbh.
A slap to reality? What reality? The reality SB actively denies because he’s a loony who’s out of time?
Shows who the real man is here.
3:31 his little smile after "we're gonna need more reefer" is just hilarious to me
"god im so glad this is legal now"
The liberty reference was crazy lol
for sure
wasn't she Stormfront?
@@xaviermoyssenalvarez4419 yea
Soldier boy as a cocky ride or die style gramps from an entire different generation is an incredibly interesting character. The actor plays him so well, and his voice is just perfect and the writing is so good 😂
if u likee this, come check out my platinum vids as well - ua-cam.com/video/TVgB_QdV96Y/v-deo.html
1:52 this makes me chuckle everytime you can even see the actor holding it's laughter, and then Hughie realizing he has a LOT to explain
3:40
"what'd you say?"
---"what?"
"what?"
---"nuffin mate. no one said nuffin."
that's gotta be the most accidentally funny thing ive ever seen out of this show lmao
2:00 how did I only just get that Cosby tried to spike him
He was probably down for it. Quaaludes & alchohol were the hot shit back in the day. Like we have Molly&lean right now
“I don’t have shell shock, Fuck you” has me crying😭
After doming a elderly Christian couple lol
Soldier Boy has indomitable willpower. Thats why he became so powerful as a supe. Easily my most favourite character in the show
U think he'll come back for season 4?
@@Whiffs probably in the s4 finale. Makes sense to build him up even more
what kinda bullshit did i just read, hes just funny asf bruh and his morales are interesting
But once it comes to more complex longterm things that rely on cooperation they only get in the way
Bro I just love how at 6:33 you can hear soldier boy getting more tired of dealing with Hughie LOL
I still can't believe that Butcher actually uttered the phrase "my wife's son."
Theres just no way on this planet to make that phrase not sound silly, is there.
@@emetanti
Nope, there isn't.
Damn guess the concept of love is just non existent to yall. Yeah it’s not based to raise someone else’s kid. But that doesn’t matter if you love the kids mother which is what butcher did.
@@justjoshua5759 This is about the phrase more than anything.
He's a cuck
The hoover deluxe line had me dyin lmaoo
He and Kimiko were for sure the best part of season 3, they stole the spotlight in every scene they were in
He was an absolute standout in this show and I can't wait for him to be back!
The delivery of the line "You made those words up" really kills me everytime lmfao
he nearly walked away with this show. the dudebro soap opera that is supernatural makes it very easy to overlook how natural and charismatic and genuinely good ackles is. id love to see him in more stuff. hopefully more of this show.
I like how hughie looked at soldier boy and thought “wait you didn’t know she was a-“
Doubtful, it was a complete secret until the 21st Century.
Man said “huey” lmfao
sorry but timestamp pls

Soldier Boy fought WW2 (but implied that he didn't) so nazi alert
The thing i like about soldier boy is the fact despite being a villian, he trully seens himself as a hero
Okay but the last clip is understandable 💀
Hahaha ye. I mean if i was all powerful... i'm pretty sure i wouldn't wear a cape either.
*last 2, big time. He's tied with Noir for my favorite season 3 character tbh
And the first one
Wait....Homelander fucked your wife too?
"Where's the cum guzzler" "He's my wife's son"
the fine wine line (i hate how that rhymes) is american humor at its finest.
ikr
It kills me.
Such a savage of a character. Really hope he comes back in the next season. Def made things interesting
