- The PCV oil splash guard broke on this ford Triton engine on the passenger side. This video will show you how to remove it. It can be a very frustrating job so take your time and be patient with it. there is no room to work!

I just started to do a cam chain job on my 98 Expedition and that passenger side valve cover is a pain in the ass! After seeing you video I think I can get er done yes there will be lots of swearing!!!
Thank you for this video. No one has covered taking the cover off in great detail. They always show a 4.6 not the 5.43l engine. I have to do the engine air intake gaskets as well, so hopefully the acces to the cover will be easier

Thanks for the video. I have a 1998 4.6L with a leaking valve cover gasket. I'm gonna replace it when I replace my a/c dryer, compressor, and condenser, so I'll have hella room to work with that thing out of the way.

Matt Shaughnessy, So I didn’t wait on it and did the valve cover gasket job only yesterday. Man! It took me almost 5 1/2 HOURS! Just like you said, a lot of twisting and cussing. What a pain in the ass!!! What really held me up was the wiring harness for the fuel injectors getting in the way of getting the cover out. At least it’s done. Thanks again. One more time, this job is a huge pain in the ass!!!!

I have done this job before and the valve cover does disappear after some magical words too bad its not shown in the video nice video for sure shows how f uped newer cars are

O-yeah, I heard you say you installed a "NEW" valve cover with a "NEW" gasket, is or was the new valve cover needed, put another way, should I replace mine, how can I tell if I need a new one, is this the part that failed along with the gasket. Honesty, this is how my mind works, I dont mean to be a bother, I just really need some help, since I have none.
He said he replaced the valve cover because the oil splash guard had broken off. As for the gasket it all depends what kind of shape it's in and how long it's been on.
I changed the coil packs on my son's scion frs, and broke my glasses after smashing them against the ground because I was so pissed off. I guess doing the valve cover gaskets on my f 150 is going to cost me a few pair of glasses plus the injuries cause by the job.

Hey, Matt, I realize that this is an older video & you may not respond, but I'm going to try anyway. How much hassle was cleaning the old gasket and any gasket adhesive off of the head deck? Did you install the gasket dry or did you use some RTV to keep that silly, floppy new gasket from falling out of it's groove? It looks like keeping the gasket on the cover and getting it seated in the groove on the head is a major pain in the ying, any advice on this?
Is this a common issue with these expeditions, Im having a issue as well and I didnt see the video where I could hear the noise. Can you help me please?

@@MattShaughnessy6 Lol wish I was that disciplined. Took me 2 1/2 days to get it tore down. Fixing to time my f150. timing chain oil n water pump, all that. THANKS for pass side removal vid, it come in real handy.
How bout changing a 4.6 e 150 valve cover gasket 99 model ....😭
11:38 - Is that bracket two pieces or three on yours? My 2000 Expedition has the same top piece, but the vertical piece stops after the top groove (on yours it has two horizontal grooves where the electrical connector slides in). So, I'm wondering if someone lost a third bottom piece of the bracket before I got it, or what.
So with my p302, will a bad valve cover gasket cause it to misfire? I changed both and the fuel injector and it still misfire. Or does a bad pigtail connection causes it?
Hey Matt! Would you say that this 5.4 engine is as bad as the 5.4 on the white 05/06 expedition you were working on? I’m asking because I have an 01 Eddie Bauer and have a knock on the passenger side as well. I’ve put so much time into my ride I really don’t want to give her to the graveyard

@@MattShaughnessy6 Thanks for the vid Matt, I'm gonna try out this process on my friend's 2003 Exped. There's a slow but steady leak around both valve covers. Hope the driver's side is not much harder. It doesn't look like it.
@@padrigrussell9899 driver side is way easier. Take your time move a few things outta the way to save yourself a headache when it comes time to remove it. Matt, please HELP! So, I've got my valve covers off my 01 expedition 5.4l Triton and have new gaskets for them, but i totally forgot to pay attention to where/which holes the long bolts and the short bolts go on both covers! 🤦🏼 i DID keep them separated according to which cover they went to, but i can't find a diagram ANYWHERE that shows them...any chance you know which ones go where? Your help is greatly appreciated!
Probably to late but I just did mine and and all the long ones go on the front towards radiator bottom to top middle, the middle is a short screw and the working towards top 2 long ones then last one by firewall is a screw also all bottom ones are screws, hint I also removed the splash guard made so much easier 👍

You lost me when you mentioned a cam phaser in the first minute. This vehicle doesn't come with cam phasers for another 5 years man.
Make sure you don’t pull the vaccine line off of the back side of the grommet on the firewall. Or you’ll be fishing a new vacuums line through there. And it’s a bitch because you’ll be working under the dashboard as well as through the top.
