Guys this might not help as you might think its a software error but no! It could be a hardware one, open your pc and check if something is stuck in your cpu's fan or if it's moving if not you gotta change the fan.
tehamazin me to it said mine was at 89 degrees celcius I shit it off restarted went from 72 to 89 in like 30 seconds I pulled out the cpu littelry little bit warmer than room temperature smh..
Sameeee I have my 3900X oc to 4.5 on all core never goes past 45c on full load... runs everything fine until I throw it in a bench test then boom cpu over temp error... even used the amd ryzen software to Moniter the heat on each individual diode them self at 95c you’ll get the error all of them under 55c sooo idk... like I’ve said it runs everything fine doesn’t hickup no blue screen no nothing until I run the bench test...

So my nzxt z63 was installed in my new build and put corsiar sp140 fans. They light up however they don't spin? Is this causing cpu over temp error? All cables are plugged in. I have plugged one cable to the lightening node and the other to the nzxt splitter cable for both fans
This happened to mine recently I’ve had it for years and never had this error. Now the fan won’t stop running even if it’s doing nothing and whenever I reset it it shows me that error.
You need to change the fan to always on / active mode. All you did was mask the error message. And soon a dead CPU. Setting is in the bios. Just look around for fan settings. Or the fan is bad. Take it back to Best Buy.

Change to a new heat sink for the cpu now its not getting hot but another heat sink below my card is heating up real bad how to fix this as i can only get into my main desktop but the icons all gone

Im not sure why other comments assume you gonna show how to make the cpu cool. Obviously its part of cpu cooler. Because the problem occur for me was i cant shutdown/use the pc while the error appear. Because its stuck when i update windows.
ok found my cause of the over heating issue , my casing is TUF GT 501 , its have 2 sata hard slot behind the motherboard i have 2 sata hard on it that hard drives heating heat my casing and the motherboard it also effect to my CPU directly after removing the hard drive my issue is solved .

Same here, my cpu is colder than ever and I still get overheated errors, I don't understand.

no it does not you may have to do hardware troubleshoot. it could be the heat sink issues

try a different fan. the fan could be bad

yes it has been working for a long time then I found out CPU heatsink is bad. replaced the heatsink the warning went away.
