Theoretically, you can play the low b natural in third or second position using the trigger. But it is a pedal note that doesn’t sound as full as on a bass trombone, tuba, euphonium french horn, etc. It is because the tuba, euphonium and horns have what is known as a conical bore which gives it a more mellow, warm sound.
Yes, this is partially correct. The B natural can be played as a "false tone" but that is outside of the scope of this video. You are correct in that it generally does not retain the same tone quality. If it is necessary to play a low b natural with a single valve, I would recommend pulling the attachememt valve slide to E.
@@LowBrassU I will try pulling out the extra slide on my f attachment. I already played using the trombone’s main tuning slide and I get a powerful low eb with both my trigger and straight tenor trombone. I have a tried a pedal eb and it’s not a great sound without the trigger. It sounds less open, goofy and raspy. I kid you not. 🙃 😂
@@keithshockley3443 @Keith Shockley That is not surprising. Depending onthe quality of the valve and the type of F attachment wrap, it is going through several more turns than the open horn with the main tuning slide pulled. It is possible to get a good sound with the valve with some practice.
@@LowBrassU I have a cheap closed wrap trigger trombone and got mine for around 200 - 300 dollars. You can probably get a better and bigger sound with a more expensive trombone such as them intermediate or professional level horns.
Any trombone player like myself knows that we love are f attachment’s because of the ease it can make fast passages to be played. Love from a Swedish bass trombonist
You made an excellent presentation on the Difference of a Bb and a Bb/F trombone. I have been playing both for many years and found this to be very clear and accurate.
Great video, thank you for sharing. I have been learning the trombone on a small-bore straight tenor. Last night I got a large-bore Bb / F. Just trying to get used to holding the instrument!
Thank you for this video I’ve been wondering if I should start saving up for a f attachment trombone sense I play trombone in jazz band and have been wanting to get a better range for the bass trombone part.
I played trombone from fourth grade all the way up through my sophomore year in college. I’ve since gotten rid of my trombone, I’m 56 years old, and I’m looking to invest in a decent trombone, used, and trying to determine whether or not I want to buy one with an attachment.this has been very helpful
At the end of the video you said it will say in trombone Bb/F, i am debating on purchasing a jupiter trombone but the instrument key said Key of Bb. can you tell me if its the same thing also the name of the trombone is a Jupiter Intermediate Bb Slide Trombone with F Attachment JTB1150FO if you can tell me if that is a good instrument to buy for a trombonist looking for an F attachment in price range
i looked in the description and it says key of Bb in the about this item but the picture of the instrument shows an extra tube in the back, but yes this helped and it is an f attachment
I am playing an Edwards T-350. It's a great instrument but I'm not sure I would recommend a custom trombone priced at $4500 for a middle school student. There are more affordable options from companies such as Bach, Conn, Yamaha, Getzen, Eastman Etc. I hope this helps!

Finally, a Trombone video THats concise, and Note worthy.
Thank you
Wow, kind words. Thanks!
You made an excellent presentation on the Difference of a Bb and a Bb/F trombone. I have been playing both for many years and found this to be very clear and accurate.

If you have short arms it's probably beneficial to start on an F attachment bone.

Other than 2nd and 7th position, does an f attachment change fingerings or make more fingerings available?
The F attachment offers many new slide positions. In this video I only talked about some of the most common options.
Zach Marley thank you, I appreciate it
Wonderful video! I've really enjoyed your content. Also mad props for your doubling abilities.
Thanks for watching! More content on all instruments to come!
This is an extremely helpful video, 10/10
When I hear the turn to the right trick with the slide, I think of the time when the USS Texas flooded her compartments to increase her range.
😨😨😨
Very helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
At my school it's up to the students on when to chang I have personaly been on one sence 6th
This is really clear and useful explanation of the trombone. Thank you very much!!!
Great video
Thanks!

If you are wanting to play the bass part, at least one valve but two is ideal!
@@LowBrassU thank you for the recommendation I’ll keep it in mind
Thank you that was very useful
Glad it was helpful!
Have you ever tried the Superbone?
I have, it is a bit silly but a fun idea. I would call it q collector's horn.
What happens if you hit the trigger while blowing?
You will probably change to the closest triggered note. If you are playing a low Bb you will likely get the c above it.
Thank you!, this was very helpful.

Did this man just casually whip out a Conn 24H???
The Conn is a 1972 6h, my first trombone!
@@LowBrassU that’s very nice for a first trombone, bell looks smaller than 8” in the vid tho. Very cool though I haven’t seen many of those around.
You can also play low b nautrual in between 3rd and 2nd with the trigger

It may say Bb and not Bb/F. If the product description mentions an F attachment it will have a valve. Does this make sense?
i looked in the description and it says key of Bb in the about this item but the picture of the instrument shows an extra tube in the back, but yes this helped and it is an f attachment
hey i’m back again i found an edwards EQP-601 with f attachment it’s gold do you think this would be a good instrument, it is $880
I believe you found an Eastman not an Edwards. That being said it's probably a decent budget option but I don't have personal experience.
oh yeah my bad i mixed the two up i’ll go look up some information thank you
So is the F Attachment trombone the same as saying the trigger trombone? Thank you.
The two are used interchangeably by most people.
@@LowBrassU thank you
what trombone is this
Edwards T-350
what was the name of the trombone with the f attachment that you used in this video, and would you recommend it for a middle school trombonist

WHAT TROMBONE ARE YOU USING
