I have a male Golden Retriever pup. He still squats at 6+ months of age and I will continue to train him to squat when he eliminates. I know it can be done because I had a male Golden that passed at almost 14 years of age and I trained him not to lift his leg but to squat and he did it his whole life. And since I cannot go out in bad weather (ice and snow) he will be using an indoor bathroom, but he has too much urine for the litter box, we use a box that has a drawer the urine drains into. You can put absorbent gell in it, but I just pull the drawer out and empty and rinse it. I've heard that you can train a larger dog to use a human toilet, I'm considering it but since I have the dog urinal, I don't know if I will or if I'll stick with what I've got.
Thank you so much! This is a great and thorough video. I am going to get all of these items for my new girl coming home. If there is a way to see if you can get a sponsor I would order it through you of course.
I just adopted a 4 month terror mix male and started training him in the litter box. We're using pine pellets. Problem is I bought a regular cat litter box. He doesn't like it too well but is using it not all the time. So I ordered another box a little flatter. I'll wait and see if he goes #2 in it. He has #1 down pack im crossing my fingers for #2 . So yes it's possible to train a male in a litter box
LOVE THE VIDEO! ❤ what did you do for potty training when you went back to work after getting Hazel? I’m worried we’ll lose progress once I’m back at work a few days after starting potty training with my 8 week old mini dachshund 😅
Thank you for this video I have a litter of 4 puppies they will be 3 weeks old in a couple days and I was looking for a solution when they start going potty by them selfs pee pads can get really messy, but the tray you have will be a little to high for them to climb in there and the doggie bathroom cost about $300 , so I looked around and found a tray at tractor supply that's actually for rabbits and cost about $20 and I will go with the pine pellets in case the puppies decide to chew on the stuff it won't harm them but I can't use a liner it is going to be shredded by the puppies the same as pee pads once they get older and more playful and when the puppies go to their new home the new owner can decide if they still want to use a litter box or take them outside
@@autumnelizabeth8328 yes it was a mess I agree and I only had 4 puppies I can't imagine what you are going through with 11 , I have heard people use the alfa alfa pellets it's a bit more expensive but less of a mess I will try those next time and see how it goes
My pup has been trained to go on the artificial grass indoors with a pee pad base. It works but the smell is not very good and the turnover of the grass is high as well so I have been considering other options. I actually thought of using a litter box. But one of the challenges I can foresee is that my pup likes to chew on things and dig. Do you have that problem with Hazel? Do you have any ideas on how to help her overcome that so that she can use the litter box for her business rather than amusement? My pup has ample toys to play with but she still loves tearing up plastic bags so that liner will also become a hazard for her. TT
I'm trying to litterbox train my 5 month old Shirainian puppy. She's been extremely difficult. If she's not eating the litter, she's lying in it. She refuses to use the litterbox unless she's confined to the area. She seldom goes to the litterbox to use it if she's not confined. Help!!!! I don't know what else to do.
I have 2 boys and a girl and let me tell you... I just know my boys would not use a box lol 😆 my girl was so easy to train and I know she would use this, but my boys on the other hand... They need the pee pads taped up on a side of the wall 😭
I still think it's healthier for dogs to actually go outside. I'd only use this for emergency cases like if you get a puppy or if your dog is extremely sick or has a severe medical condition. Just living in an apartment building isn't reason enough to not let your dog outside. If it's that hard to walk the dog then you gotta be honest with yourself and get a hampster instead until you move to a location that's better for a dog.
@@meredithwemhoff9270 There are porch potties and other kinds of setups for dogs to go indoors too, Not everyone can get the dog out the door or wants to at night in the city or in the rain or cold...an indoor system that works for you is an excellent idea. Blessings.
You do realize people live in super cold climates, right? I'm about to get a small breed puppy and absolutely cannot bring my dog outside in negative degrees. Your assuming people who lotter train means they never take their dogs outside. Like what? When the weather warms up, my dog will be outside all the time, and I'll also be training the puppy to potty outside too.
Dogs don't go to the bathroom. You will never train a dog to bathe itself. You can train them to use a dog litter tray (toilet) but it isn't a bathroom!
Do I own a dog? No. Did I watch this entire video because it’s Hazel? Yes.
😂
Omg yes😊❤
“why u airing out my business”😂
We’re currently use a litter box with our female Doberman puppy. It’s especially useful for those 2 a.m. bladder calls.

She’s such a sassy little ween! 🥹❤️
🐶💁🏼♀️
She's so cute 😍. I'm going to attempt this with my Chihuahua and Maltese furbabies. I hope it works 😊 thanks for sharing 👍🏽
She is the best ❤️
Omg I need to do this for my weens. I have 4 girls and pee pads are sooooo expensive and i go through them like crazy. Im so using this
Many breeders use pine pellets. Pretty sure those are ok to use when loyter training.
Such a brilliant set-up you have there. Love it!
Great video! Love Hazel!
I love Hazel!! I don't have my own dog, but I watched video especially for Hazel 😅❤
Sending love from Poland Hazel❤
Aww hello! 🥰

love from Denmark!
My mother and half-sister have always used litter boxes for their little Chihuahua dogs. They just teach them to use it as a puppy
Sweet lil lady. Classy girl!
Thanks for giving me the information. I have a new pup.

Very informational! Thanks for sharing. ❤
Where can I get a dog like this?? 😍🥰
Where did you get the doggie ramp?
From DoggoRamps.com ☺️ You should still be able to use HAZEL15 to get 15% off
I am using pine pellets in my doggie litter box and it is recommended by other breeders. I think it’s wise to use what you feel most comfortable with.
Helpful. Did you say the pine is bad for there paws?

We have 11 puppies and tried the pine pellets but it ends up turning to sawdust quickly and goes everywhere. I'm trying to find another solution!

How often do you go for a walk outside per day?
Could you link the aspen wood shavings I'm looking for some for my Elvis

I doubt it. I put one out for hurricane day and she didn’t use it at all 😅

Haha oh for sure. Those leg lifters will really getcha.
I always thought if a cat can than a dog can
I’m thinking of getting a chihuahua! Do you have any advice for me? Thank you for this video!
Please adopt- don’t buy.. there are hundreds of adorable dogs in shelters waiting for a loving home ❤😢😔

Nope!
Nobody cares what you think.

I realize that there are climates where it's cruel not to have a husky or a malamute (or similiar breeds) yes. bye megan.@@meganthebritishcatmom
