    We have been using this method to raise pups for years. It works great and I tell owners to put the pine pellets in the yard in the "spot" to help transition potty training and it really helps. It's really the best method out there.

      Please adopt your new dog from a shelter or rescue group 🥰 They’re all SOOO full of animals that are sweet and loving and need a new home. So many people adopted during COVID and now everyone is dumping them back at shelters because they’re going back to work 😢

      @Nobody You Know: I sense sarcasm in your question, but I’ll give you a sincere answer. Because I’m not in a position to get an animal. But I was able to foster 41 kittens and 3 momma cats last year at my old apartment. And I work for a local shelter and volunteer at another one and also for a rescue group in my area. I also helped over 50 cats and dogs get fixed last year just by doing outreach and transporting pets to and from spay/neuter appointments. I also spent $700 on a friend’s two dogs to get their teeth done (one had 6 teeth pulled and the other had 15 pulled) which added years to their lives and increased their quality of life tremendously. I also do outreach in the form of educating pet owners whenever I have the opportunity to, to help them provide better quality food and setups for their pets. I also helped a pet sitting client see multiple issues that were plaguing his dogs and he was able to get them properly cared for, resulting in better quality of life and longer lives (dental cleanings, deworming, treating their ear-mite infestations and getting them neutered). You asked your question like I’m someone who just sits behind a screen, telling other people what to do but not acting in any way myself. But as you can see, I do my part and beyond.

    Thank you so much for this! I got my Chi yesterday and when used she peed on the puppy pad I moved it to the litterbox and added a light sprinkle of the pellets to get her used to it. Now 4 days later- the box is completely filled with her litter pellets and she hasn’t used the bathroom elsewhere! I loved your teaching!

    Great for when you can't make it back home for a lunch walk. No regular accidents, no harm done to the bladder of the dog and all that. When you get home you can go on a good walk and play without worrying about the rug or that they've been holding it in for too long.

    (Suzie) Our puppy was litter box trained and made a great transition to our home. We got one of those big square white things that you put under a washing machine for leaks. We put in horse pine pettets and have it in the garage...no smell, no mess, she knows where to go and feels safe there. We don't have to go out at night, when it's raining, in the morning when the grass is all wet. We put one in the basement at our summer home and she goes down all by her self!!

      If you love dogs and puppies, please be a foster for a local shelter or rescue instead of breeding ❤️ Mother dogs with litters are always in desperate need of a foster home because raising a litter in a loud, crowded shelter is very stressful. Depending on the area the shelter is in and how completely stuffed they are with animals and trying to care for them all with very little resources or help, many times Mother dogs and cats are euthanized along with their litters because the shelter does not have the space to care for them or the two months it takes for them to grow to adoption age. This is not the shelter’s fault! This happens because people don’t spay/neuter and because they buy and breed instead of adopting and fostering. PLEASE foster. You’ll be saving lives instead of contributing to the death tolls by breeding even more animals into an already overwhelmed pet system. (Side note: The shelter or rescue you foster through will supply you with all you need to care for them so you don’t have to pay for anything!)

      @@xradelox I support responsible breeders.

    • @xradelox
      @xradelox 2 роки тому +1

      I agree that there’s a huge difference between breeders that care about their animals and the genetics they pass on as opposed to puppy mills and backyard breeders. My point was that at this point in time, breeding in any way adds to a very overwhelmed pet population. When a person buys a puppy/kitten/hamster/Guinea pig/whatever (even from responsible breeders), now that person is not going to adopt a homeless animal that is happy and healthy and just as deserving of life and a home. And when shelters keep getting animals pouring through the doors but not enough foster homes and adoptive homes step forward, then the shelter is forced by the community members to euthanize animals to make room for more coming in. So while there is a big difference between breeders that love their animals and care about the genetics they’re passing on vs backyard breeders and puppy/pet mills, at THIS point in time, ANY breeding results in more deaths. So there really is no such thing as “responsible breeding” right now. When every animal born equals an animal dying, that’s not being responsible. If I had the circumstances to have a bunch of dogs around my home, I would go to FL and CA every few months and pull small dogs from shelters there (because they’re so prolific in those areas) and bring them to the area I live in (because small dogs are rare in shelters in my area compared to larger breeds) and I would get them vetted and put them up for adoption. I would love to be able to help save those little lives. Look at it this way: the average litter size for small dogs is what? Like 5 puppies? If you had to shoot 5 dogs to death before you could breed your dog to sell her 5 puppies, would you do it? Could you really look into their eyes as you pull the trigger? Well that’s what’s actually happening when people breed. For every animal born, another animal dies. That’s not responsible at all.

    • @tegueggu
      @tegueggu 2 роки тому

      @@xradelox educate yourself on the reality of responsible breeders. If you work on shutting down BYBs and puppy mills instead of people that are one if not THE biggest help during this time, then maybe you’d see a difference in shelter populations. Responsible breeder’s animals will never end up in a shelter. A lot of responsible breeders work with shelters and rescues. You’re demonizing the only people that are helping the public get healthy, forever protected and planned animals instead of stopping the actual problem. And news flash, if they stop breeding, there will no longer be any animals.

    • @xradelox

      I got an email reply from you but I don’t see it in the thread here but I still wanted to address a few points:
      “TeguEggu
      xradelox educate yourself on the reality of responsible breeders. If you work on shutting down BYBs and puppy mills instead of people that are one if not THE biggest help during this time, then maybe you’d see a difference in shelter populations. You’re demonizing the only people that are helping the public get healthy, forever protected and planned animals instead of stopping the actual problem. And news flash, if they stop breeding, there will no longer be any animals.”
      Of course our biggest goal IS to shut down backyard breeders and puppy mills and to have other people spay/neuter their pets so they don’t have unplanned litters. Like I already said, I KNOW there’s a huge difference in the quality of care for those animals and animals cared for by decent breeders. I also know that decent breeder’s animals hardly ever (but I won’t say never) end up in shelters. HOWEVER, as I’ve already said, when someone buys a puppy from a decent breeder, now that buyer is not going to go adopt a homeless animal from a shelter or rescue. Animals don’t have to actually enter the shelter system themselves in order to affect the animals that are already there. In a perfect world, no breeding would be done on accident or by selfish people and millions of animals wouldn’t be dying every year due to homelessness. But we aren’t in a perfect world. ANY animal born, no matter who the breeder is, takes up a home that could have gone to a homeless animal that’s already alive. As for your other argument about if breeders stopped, then we wouldn’t have anymore animals, there really is no concern in that area. Not only will there ALWAYS be other animals (super sweet and social ones) from other rescues in other countries that need homes that could be brought here and adopted out after vetting and quarantine, but we also really should revamp how we look at dog breeds (and by extension any species bred in captivity, like Skinny Pig Guinea Pigs, Persian Cats, Munchkin Cats, etc). The vast majority of breeds are SO deformed with such exaggerated features and those poor animals born into those bodies are in constant pain and always suffering because of it. In my book, you can’t say you love animals and then breed them on purpose to be deformed. Pugs, Frenchies, English Bulldogs, American Bullies and all their varieties, Great Danes, Dachshunds, Basset Hounds, ShihTzus, Sharpeis, Apple Head Chihuahuas, Persian Cats, Munchkin Cats, Skinny Pigs, the list goes on and on and on. None of those breeds should be allowed to be bred anymore. Look up Kenny the white tiger and compare his face to a healthy tiger’s face. Then look up an English Bulldog and compare it’s face to a wolf. What are your thoughts when you see Kenny? Do you think he looks healthy and good that way? What about the bulldog? Do you think that’s cute? Why is it that you feel sorry for Kenny but you think the bulldog is cute? It’s the same deformity! It’s cruel to breed them that way. It’s NOT “responsible”! ANYONE who breeds animals to have exaggerated features and “rare” “unique” colors ALWAYS ends up with health issues attached to those features. You cannot separate breathing issues from a flat face. You cannot separate join pain and back issues from long bodies with short legs. You cannot separate skin issues from wrinkly skin. I don’t know how else to say it. Most breeds should not be bred anymore so that the breed can be allowed to die out over time. Then in the far future when there is no longer an overpopulation problem and we’re able to consistently help homeless animals in other countries, THEN we could start breeding programs for new breeds that are bred with excellent HEALTH, and TEMPERAMENT as the goals instead of exaggerated looks. THAT is being responsible. Breeding the way we are now (regardless of how well the parents and offspring are loved and cared for) is NEVER responsible. Responsible = doing what’s right for the animals. And breeding based on looks is never right.

    Seeking advice, I have an 8 year old chihuahua who has been going outside to do his business his whole life. We’ve been living in a house with a fenced in yard, so all I have to do now is open the back door and he can take as much time as he needs. We are about to move into an apartment and would love an effective indoor potty option for those moments where I won’t be able to take him out to the green space myself. For context, we lived in an apartment a few years back and I bought a tray/faux grass setup. He was too anxious to even go near it

Try placing a piece of their stool in the box to kind of point out where you want them to go. If the pad is large enough, place it UNDER the box as well 😉

I have a box I've been putting a pad in but he's mistaking area rugs so i thought the pellets would help him know that's where he goes. But he just wants to eat them

    Just got my 8 week old puppy yesterday and got a pine pellets set up in a big cage with her bed. She seems to hate it so far and just cries, I put in a few washable toys for her to chew on but I'm not going to break down and pick her up cause she needs to learn. I pray it works.

    Hi we went to get the pellets you suggested and will start to use it for our puppy! If they poop on the pellets, do you have to take the poop right away as soon as you notice? How often do you clean their poop on there? Thank you!

      Until they actually get it down I’ll leave it in there for a little bit. It’s kind of like a Que if you get my meaning. I generally pick out the solids twice daily or after they happen and then change the entire box weekly.

    Hi, I got my puppy in January of 2023 he was born on November 27th 2022. He is now 4 months old. It’s been very difficult for me to potty train him. But he loves to potty on the rugs. I don’t take him outside because he still doesn’t have all his shots. I have 2 questions, is he too old to potty train him? Next question is, since he eats everything he finds on the floor, would he eat the pallets in the litter box?

    I wish more breeders would do this. I just bought a puppy who clearly spent WAY to much time in his crate. He pees & poops in his bed & just lays in it. They told me they don't "waste time" training their puppies because they won't have them long enough. When he was out of his crate they just let him go potty wherever & wiped it up. So he has learned there is no designated place to relieve himself. I really hope I can train him to use a litter box, but so far he lays in it (even with pee or poop in it). I hope he isn't going to be a "dirty dog" because of their laziness.

    Can you please help me? My 10 week old Papillon was pad trained but I’m trying to get her to use a litter box. She eats it like crazy! Digs in it like crazy! I need her to be 100% off the pads. We tried the puppy paper pellets and alfalfa pellets.
    We tried the pad/fake grass thing too- she will pee on it but not poo! In fact she will pee on it but also love to sit on that grass and chill.
    Other than that she’s great at going outside- just dosent give me a audible cue yet- getting the bells soon.

    • @BestInShowBitch
      @BestInShowBitch  4 роки тому +10

      Sounds like for 10 weeks old your little one is doing really well!!! My recommendation would be to place the pad under the litter box to see if that pulls them in that direction. If that makes sense?
      Also pick up stool and place it in the box giving them a que to go there. The key is to get this scent in the box so they know where to soil. I would definitely do you scheduled feedings and then watch them like a hawk for the PP dance. You know, where they start doing the whole circle thing. Pick them right up and put them in the box. I am awesome heard of people taking a soiled pad I am placing it in a portion of the box to bring the scent in.

    • @xanadu1jw
      @xanadu1jw 3 роки тому +5

      You clean the empty box with hot water and soap. You don’t clean the litter, you throw it away after it starts to get smelly. Before that you use a scoop to remove any feces as soon as you notice it or oce or twice a day.

      I clean mine weekly but other times I have to clean them more often. Once you see the pellets have turned into sawdust you know it’s time to clean for sure! It’s cleaned regularly there’s not really a smell
