- Kevin James of Mall Cop and The King Of Queens before he was famous, doing stand up comedy in 1995 on Star Search and making it to the semi finals by beating comedian Brad Lowery. Andy Richter was a judge and don't forget about the host Ed McMahon and Martha Quinn as side host.
Three years later, he stars in the greatest sitcom of all-time.

this guy is a very talented comedian. he's hilarious.
It's so funny he actually does that water skiing bit in the TV show Kings of Queens
they also kinda recycled the stuff about ventilators in one episode when it keeps blowing wind to Doug, Deacon and Richie, but not to Spence. And he went crying like "I will end this friendship if you keep disrespecting me like this!!! ... ok, think about it while I'm eating another ice cream."

Most sitcoms are written around the lead actor/comic -- in this case, Kevin sucked Ray Romano's dick really well. . . & the rest, as they say, is history, as yet another unfunny guy gets dozens of film contracts based on look & oral abilities more than anything else. . . Have you seen his breakthrough routine on Just For Laughs? (a big ol' gay ad to the tune of Back Street Boys' "Larger Than Life")

He wrote a lot of the jokes on his show. If you see his full stand up "Don't sweat the small stuff" pretty much the whole routine is in KOQ at some point.

Haha that thing with the great white shark , he said it in the king of queens too, i think season 4 when they were at a barbeque and he told a story about how he went water skiing.
He actually said it in his backyard at the grill and then told the same story (unsuccessfully) later at Carrie's law firm retreat in the mountains. I have seen him do that water skiing bit in several of his stand up routines. It is sad that he just can't come up with new material since 1995. ALL of his stand up jokes were recycled in the King of Queens. Since I am a KOQ addict, all of his stand up is unfortunately ruined for me, because KOQ recycled everything. (The oscillating fan bit was also on an earlier episode of KOQ).

They need to bring back Star Search! I miss watching it. I remember first watching is as a kid in the 80's when it came on. I like the King of Queens too, great show! ...Better than what's on now days, that's for sure! lol =)

Well ya, there’s a reason Actors don’t get their own sitcom but standup comedians do. It’s how they create the scripts for their shows. Everyone from Cosby to Seinfeld, to Romano & Tim Allen; each show is based off a joke or a ‘bit’ from their stand up material.

@@seanbrenchley I dont find the Seinfeld or Romano style of comedy funny at all. It depends too much on the crowd & is cheezy but Kevin James in a room on his own could send me into fits of laughing. He's so natural but seinfeld just screams, "script". I guess everyone has their favorites & a lot of people like him

That bit about the oscillating fan was so true and so funny.
He used the joke about waterskiing and the great white and the seaweed in one of the episodes of King of Queens. Its evident now that he used some of his stand-up in the writing of the show.

This is true. Sweat the Small Stuff was actually a compilation (best of) of all his previous stand up routines. Most of it was recycled in King of Queens too.

Comedians ALWAYS take their same jokes to different venues. All of them. It'd be impossible to have new material every single stand up.

10 thumbs up for Kevin James later to be called Doug Heffernan...what a amazing comedian and actor he is...and on his show King of Queens him and Leah Remini acts just like they are truly married although in real life Remini is married to a man who appeared on several episodes of King of queens Angelo Pagán who’s also funny on the show...I hope they do what they’ve been doing to other shows called a reboot..the King Of Queens actors are still alive especially the great Jerry Stiller aka Arthur Spooner..I’d love to see Doug and Deacon (Victor L. Williams) back together again as best friends still working at IPS or maybe another driving company cause like Doug has said many times he only wants to drive....I love that show and in my opinion he has taken over the reigns of king of queens from Archie Bunker the late Carroll O’Conner rip Carroll and say hi to my mother...🙏🏻✝️😇
