    I'm 64 and have a '99 Heritage Softtail which I ride almost everyday. I wouldn't trade my 20 yr old Harley for a new one! I love my old 1340 carbed EVO!!!

      How many miles do you have on your 99 ? Has the carb caused you any problems?

      @@dodge33445 My Heritage has 82,000 miles and is totally stock except for the Vance and Hines exhaust, and have had no problems at all. I keep the fluids changed every 3000 miles. No problems with the carburetor. Now every now and then I'll keep it blownout by giving it "full throttle" a couple miles on the interstate!

      @@michesgqlledobbiln8928 , Thank you for the response! I feel great about things now. Seeing that you have one and it is so dependable! IVe always loved the softail since I was a kid and my dads friend had one .

      @@dodge33445 I've had quite a few bikes throughout my life. I' had a '83 shovelhead Tour Glide and put 105,000 miles on that bike. Man I loved that old shovelhead! It leaked a little oil, but nothing to worry about. Then I had a '90 Electra Glide Sport and that was an Evo motor and a real nice running bike, and sold me on EVO motors. I also had a '03 TwinCam 88 softail custom. Only put like 36,000 miles on her before someone made a left turn in front of me. That '03T-88 was alot faster that my EVO, but I just didn't care for all the computer and electronics on it. So now I went back to the EVO, which in my opinion is THE best motor Harley made. These things are 100,000 mile motor before you have to do anything to it, if then! Maybe tighten down the head bolts.

      @@michesgqlledobbiln8928 The one I am looking to buy is a 2002 Harley softail heritage classic firefighter, with 22,000 miles. but it has vance and hines full exhaust, aftermarket bars, and aftermarket wheels, and a lot of chrome extras. shes a beauty.. but I heard a lot of people trying to say that you dont get any high miles out of a Harley, which made me a bit nervous, but hearing your experience with them makes me feel MUCH better! Thanks for your response. I hope to be riding soon !!

    To all of you complaining about the "ferring" do you realize he's got the camera mounted too low. You can see quite well over those fairings and in long rides you don't get tired of the wind beating you around. As for the styling, yes aside from minor cosmetics older Harleys and new ones pretty much look the same to the untrained eye. THAT is the point of a Harley. Technologically speaking, new Harleys are completely different and more refined, and for some purists or old schoolers, even that is a problem; proof that you can't please everyone. If you haven't ridden on one of these, go ride one before you post a comment.

    I have a 2000 Dyna twin cam and it rattles my eyelids when I'm waiting at lights. The only real issue I've had with it over 13 years is the clutch basket and ring gear which needed renewing. One of the floats in the carb sticks a bit and it will leak petrol if it hasn't been used for a while but it'll fire up up on the button whenever it's needed. A friend has a new BMW 1100 and that's a delight of a bike but it just doesn't have the personality or characteristics of my old Harley. I sat on it and it felt like it was made of plastic. I'd find it easier to sell a kidney than my bike.

    I’ve ridden since I was 16 - my first bike was a 50cc Bridgestone step-thru, followed by a Yamaha CS5 200 Electric, a Honda 250 XL, a Suzuki 750GT water-bottle, and then when work supplied me with a car, I traded our family car in on a new 1992 two tone ruby & red 1340cc Electra Glide Classic, which I nicknamed Ruby.
    I rode Ruby to work, anywhere between 30 and 100 klms each way, for 24 years until I retired in 2009. I’ve had no issues with Ruby other than a broken spring which jammed the gear box in 3rd gear a year out of warranty, and which HD fixed for no cost.
    I’m now 64, and my last ride on Ruby was April 7th 2017, when I dropped her off at the HD dealer, as I had traded her in on a 2017 Red Iron Denim Fat Boy Lo, which I've called Amy, after the Doctor Who character Amy Pond, as I had to wait for 4 months before taking delivery, hence Amy, the bike who waited.

    I have a 1992 Heritage and an 18 street glide , the obvious difference for one is the CI and one is fuel injected and one is not , the 1992 is a turn key bike , fires after being choked , runs like a dream . I wanted something newer just for the simple fact of I wanted something bigger and 2 I don’t know if they changed the gearing or not in later models , but the ‘92 is screaming keeping up with traffic on the interstate , I wanted a nice cruiser that wasn’t rapped out , yeah I could of upgraded the transmission , but I want to keep the bike as stock as possible for my personal reasons . Just my 2 cents from someone who has both

    I've ridden HD's since 78. Matter of fact only two. Both EG's. One shovelhead that was stock save for the looks and my current ride a HD 01 FLHTPI that came out of Yonkers PD. The 01 I had the engine modified, just cause I had the money to do it. Went from and 88 to a 96 with a mild build. Will do in excess of 100mph which is fast enough for me. Has good tug throughout the power band but more specifically gears 3-5 just a good pull if I get on it. Never ridden another style of motorcycle and frankly never had the desire to. Never have seen a rice rocket that I liked the looks of.

    You NEVER actually talk about the visual influence of color on a motorcycle as its being ridden. It's what everybody sees and everybody is massively influenced by visuals. You also never mention about what is the first object a rider sees when they stop looking at the road and approach looking at object on the bike. If the speedo is located just below where a rider looks at the road, then its easy to instantly check your motion speed, but if the rider has to find the speedo located under handle bars and imbedded into a petrol tank, then that time wasting effect will cost the rider from looking at the road infront of them. So talk about your opinion about searching for items on the bike and what impression you have from blacked out components or deliberately enhanced objects. Sunlight bouncing off chrome handlebars for example. Etc...

    I've got a 2010 roadking, hate the twin cam motor but love my bike. I've dumped a lot of money into my motor fixing crap Harley should have designed better. Never had issues out of the evolutions I've owned. To be fair my twin cam "A" motor is not stock and my issues are the fact it's making double the horse power of stock. I wish Harley would get rid of the primary chain BS and get rid of the cam chain.... Link them up direct gear drive! For the Harley haters out there.... You really can't bash the things until you've spent a day or a weekend on one. Go rent one... Bastards feel strange as hell at first but what sold me was a 500 mile day and I wasn't sore after the ride. Women notice the harleys... I'm 45 and I get 20 something women talking to me about my bike. Not sure why but I'll take the attention!

      @@lawrence6115 …. Congratulations on your purchase. I think you will really enjoy it. In all honesty, I have never found a reason to justify buying a new Harley. Trust me, I have been tempted many times and even looked at three different 2021 Road Kings and almost pulled the trigger on one, but my old carbureted Harley (with stage 1 & 2) still does the job and keeps me from spending $25k+. On the flip-side, I have had several guys ask me if I would consider selling. There is still a desire for the old-school carbureted Harley’s.
      As as side point - I run a GoldWing for my long-distance trips nowadays. But my Harley has been and can still do coast to coast trips if I wanted to. But at 62, I enjoy a little more comfort on long distance trips.

      This is why I have a Harley Softail Springer and a Honda VTX 1300. 2 different bikes with 2 different rides. The Harley is far better around town and lets face it, way cooler looking. The VTX is better for the longer out of town rides. But I never get people standing around praising it's coolness.

    • @alfrede.neuman8611
      @alfrede.neuman8611 6 років тому

      Here's something I've noticed. 90% of the people I see, standing around praising the coolness of a bike, haven't got a clue what they're looking at. People are "conditioned" to believe Harley is the better bike, so this is where they gravitate. I'll bet if both bikes were debadged and people weren't told which was the Harley and which was the Japanese cruiser, you'd get a lot more honest answers. I had people LOVE my bike when they thought it was a Harley, then reel it back in, in disbelief when they found out it was a VTX.

    • @kenr9310
      @kenr9310 6 років тому

      Brian J Not sure if people think it's a "better" bike. But there is a lot more attention to detail in the styling. My Springer is a chrome detailed masterpiece, my VTX isn't all that pretty. Both bikes are quality rides though with different strong points and weaknesses
