POWER on the Cheap! SKIL PWRCORE 12V Brushless Ratchet Review RW5763A [5-year]

- Cordless ratchets weren't even a viable option for a mechanic's toolbox just 5 years ago, but now they're one of the go-to tools for many professional mechanics. The SKIL RW5763A 12V Brushless Cordless Ratchet claims to deliver up to 55 ft-lbs of torque through the 3/8" anvil. Furthermore, SKIL says their 12-volt brushless ratchet will hold up to 150 ft-lbs of manual input for breaking fasteners free before squeezing the paddle-switch. The RW5763A is covered by a 5-year limited warranty and you can pick it up from Lowes for just $130, and that's with a 2Ah battery and the charger.

I really have became a HUGE fan of your channel and your tool reviews. I know you have saved me money and saved me from making a bad purchase. I am also sure you have saved many other people from making a bad purchase. I wish I could support your channel in another way other then just being a subscriber and liking and sharing your videos with friends. As with a lot of people now a days I live pay check to pay check and have 2 kids in college and there is very little money left over. I would love to donate to the channel at some point. The only down side to watching your videos is I want some of the tools you test but they are just out of my reach right now so I will just have to watch you use and test them for now. Thanks for all you do and have a great day!
Impressive! I like the 150lb manual torque. That is the way I would use it. I liked that you tried the “run up” to loosen or tighten fasteners. You just are not going to get full torque on these tools without the motor up to speed imho. Well done and thanks for sharing!
Thank you for saying THIS IS NOT AN IMPACT. And being clear that this is purely a ratchet that will turn bolts for you so you dont have to manually turn a wrench 50 times to get to the point where you have to manually torque it or to finish removing it. And that's why they make them strong so you can use it manually as well, this tool is gonna be on my watch list, I have an air one already but battery is so much more convenient. And Im already in on the12v skil line. Good video
The problem with most of the cordless Rachets past Milwaukee, is the rectangular batteries. The Milwaukee uses either so it’s more compact and that is a HUGE deal.
Tell you what, I bought a corded Skil 13 Amp reciprocating saw with buzzkill tech over a year ago for $89 as a beater saw to replace a battery makita reciprocating saw after much frustration with run time and performance. So far I'm impressed with the newer Skil tools.
Would love to see a review of their 12 circular saw and how it compares to the Milwaukee 12v saw. As always a great video with realistic expectations.
I have both Saws and I was shocked at how much better the Skil performs... Not sure on longevity and the fit and finish isn't the same but I prefer it at the moment as just works better.
Awesome review, looks like a great ratchet for the price. Btw that was a cute 1/4" torque wrench lol
Really helpful review. Thanks so much.
Just got mine today. Very impressed with the build quality and quality of the molding. Looks like more than 30% G. Will put it to good use at work. Thanks for the review. Cheers.
How has it held up?
@@wagnerdiaz6997 So far so good. Haven't had any issues with it.
I appreciate your answer. I bought one last night kind if in the heat of the moment and I am trying to not cancel it hehe I had my eyes on other brands like the Kimo but this one went on sale for like a hour and I pulled the trigger
@@wagnerdiaz6997 I bought the Kimo and it didn't last a week and was skipping teeth. Took it apart but couldn't fix it.
Wow that sucks, glad I followed my gut on this one.
I just got my last week its not the fastest but it seems pretty good built y used to take a car engine apart, im impressed with the quality.❤
Great review, ordered
It looks really interesting, price is great, hopefully skill will introduce extended reach version, great 👍 video.
BTW. Looking forward to see new ryobi extended reach ratchet
It would be nice if SKIL makes an extended reach version. We've seen the RYOBI and we'll probably get it pretty soon. Thanks for watching.
It’s on sale right now for $109! That’s the cheapest on the market aside from cheapo Amazon imports.
You guys always come through with the new tools reviews.
Dcf923.... new 3/8 20v Dewalt. Multiple speeds and 300 lbs ft of torque.... need a review as soon as you get it!!!
I have been impressed with this. It is $99 now and is great!
$69 today on Amazon
I'm not against any tools. Most of my tools are dewalt. But I recently got in to the m12 platform because of what they make. The new skill line look like they work great.
It's hard to go wrong with the Milwaukee M12 platform. SKIL makes some great tools, and their price and warranty are hard to beat as well. Thanks for watching.
I actually have all 3, skil 12v milwaukee 12v and dewalt 20/60v and they’re all pretty great. Been happy with them all. The skil 12v stuff is seriously impressive considering price and intended purpose
Check out the Skil RI574502 1/4" hex right angle impact driver! It can loosen up to 80 ft lbs and tighten up to 55 ft lbs.
I just bought one to compliment my Kobalt 3/8" right angle impact. Perfect combo for brakes and under the hood work of my car. And best of all, both of these right angle impacts outperform their Milwaukee equivalents at lower prices!
What more could I ask for?
Yes, that little Skil right angle impact driver is a great little tool. The Kobalt right angle impact is a pure beast! Thanks for watching.
I am still looking for a reason to buy into the Skil brand and I think I found it.
🇨🇳 thanks you
Excellent. Let us know what you think of it. Thanks for watching.
For reals dewalt don’t even have a 12v line electric rachet
That seems like a great tool. I spend $400 on my Mac one cz I couldn't find a decent electric ratchet. Will you review the menards masterforce brand. I believe they're also made by chevron
The manual torque was provided by, Milwaukee snap on (both 150) and I’m pretty sure the kobalt version had a manual rating.
Yes, some of them provide the manual rating and some don't. In fact we pushed very hard on one of the manufacturers to provide this because in the beginning they were not. After a few discussions, the agreed to provide a number for manual input. Thanks for watching.
The fact it has a 5 year warranty when most only one is a no brainer to me even the Milwaukee’s only have a 2 year warranty that also says skil is very confident in their product
Love the USB ports on the SKIL batteries. That feature should be present on all batteries from the big name manufacturers.
I'd be more impressed if it was a USB-C fast charging port. Those 2.1 amp ports are ancient tech haha
@@kylefowler5082 Absolutely agree.
@@kylefowler5082 usb c isn’t really all that in yet so usb c would be kind of worthless
Yes, it makes total sense, and we love it too. Thanks for watching.
@@mercury0214 im assuming your phone is 5 years old haha. My last two phones have been usb-c fast charging and last two bluetooth headsets have been as well. For further proof look at new cars and trucks, many don't even have old USB ports, all they have is USB-C ports and household outlets.
A little disappointed that they didn’t add a fancy looking led on this one like they do on other 12v tools.
Great job
Great video as always. Im on the Dewalt platform, do you think they will come out with a 12v ratchet anytime soon? Picked up the Craftsman 20v ratchet with a free 4ah battery a few weeks ago but its way too bulky.
Not that I know of, but who knows with DeWalt. They already have it in the MAC Tools and Craftsman, so you think they would release a DeWalt version. Hopefully, they will soon. Thanks for watching.
Love the video.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
How much shorter is this vs kobalt 24v ratchet? (Or even the kobalt right angle in the background)
The skil 12v line is great stuff I'll be adding this to the kit, this looks better then the makita 12v cxt, I don't like the duel anvil design. The head looks like my snap on
This is a great little ratchet, especially for the price. The head is a bit large, about the same size as the first Milwaukee FUEL ratchet, but it works well. Thanks for watching.
When is DeWalt coming out with a 12v 3/8 ratchet?????
Damn I didn’t know they made that!
I know, it's crazy. Stuff sneaking in on us. Thanks for watching.
Just got mines yesterday and it died. The variable switch works sometimes. Most of the time not at all. Have to return it.
I’m in the market for one of these ratchets. I have no power tools yet. What brand would you recommend? I would mainly use the tools for home purposes and automotive. Skil seems good for my intended purposes.
Looks great. I wish they sold it in the uk
Team Chervon: 12v Skil for the small light stuff, 24v Kobalt for the heavier stuff, and Ego 56v for the yard.
Great.... Now talk to me about that torque wrench you were using. I'm looking for a short body torque wrench.
Could a PWR Core 20V battery work with this charger?
Can you test the new Bosch Profactor gds18v-740n high torque impact wrench?
We are working on getting one in very soon. Thanks for watching.
I want to see the new Bosch Hitman SDS. Bosch is slowly starting to put LCD battery level screens on their tools that have a couple other functions besides the battery level as well.
I’m just waiting on some Skil sales, lol. I’d like the 12v circ saw and impact. Anybody know how the 12v circ saw compares to the milwaukee m12 circ saw?
The ratchet and 1/4” impact is on sale at Lowe’s right now. The impact you have to add to your cart to see it.
id never ever even think of buying a dewalt style 12volt ANYTHING. still dont
I think overall Skil does have great tools but……
Being that they are Chervon I have to wonder how much the line will expand. They launched in Nov. 2019 but it took them well over a year to get into Lowes. Chevon owns Flex and I think that is there focus right now, They also make the Kobalt tools… Another brand that seems to be stuck and lacks the range of the brand by TTI (Milwaukee, Ryobi, Rigd and even Hart are expanding).
Skill needs a 12v hammer drill OR a combo 20v/12v charger so you can get the 20v tools for the power but then get 12v tools to fill in. Also the 12v tools kits are a great price, but not so much on the 20v line.
And finally, let’s see what Chervon and Lowe’s does with Skil (and Flex and Kobalt) for Memorial Day and Father’s Day deal… So far it’s a big zip!
You are correct with Chervon owning SKIL, FLEX, and EGO. There was a lot of concern at the time with EGO being sold at HD, with SKIL (and Kobalt) positioned in Lowes. Also, I'm sure at that time, they probably had a good idea of what they wanted to do with the FLEX brand as well. Once they pulled the EGO brand from HD and made it available at Lowes, then everything started to align.
The SKIL brand is positioned for DIY and entry-level Pro, while FLEX is the Pro brand. Kobalt, of course is the in-house brand for Lowes. That positioning is not bad and it's much like TTi (Milwaukee, Ridgid, Ryobi).
We're more interested in seeing what is going to happen with Craftsman, Metabo, and other brands that continue to fill the space at Lowes as well. We did expect to see a larger presence of FLEX tools at Lowes by now. Time will tell. All speculation, of course. Thanks for watching.
@@Shoptoolreviews Thanks for the reply and your videos!
Great point on Craftsman. We’ve seen how Stanley-B&D have squandered away the iconic Porter-Cable brand, and ironically have left Black&Decker to languish. Then with Craftsman there was the huge push a couple years ago and now we are left with red-colored, re-branded mid-level DeWalt tools and a line that has not expanded at all. And to DeWalt, not much innovation when compared to Milwaukee and TTI brands this past year or so.
Personally I think Craftsman should be the main Lowe’s hand-tool brand and drop the power tools, and they should take Black & Decker tools and align with Target as their “house” brand as TTI did with Hart and Walmart.
Skil actually does have a PWR CORE 12 Brushless 12V 1/2" Hammer Drill.
@@spraguefamilyfarm Yes I did see that - thank you! Not sure the 12v would work for me. The main reason I want a powerful hammer drill is for gardening and using a planting auger and going through hard-pack clay soil the often has rocks in it. Power Planter brand actually sells a kit that come with the top level DeWalt hammer drill (the 996 I think).
actually i got a great deal on my 20 v Skil tools. About half the normal price with a free 4ah battery for each. Purposely bought them separate to get the extra free 4ah battery. Now im not a Trades Pro... More "Prosumer" , or as i like to say semi-pro (im an artist so i use these for various things like carpentry etc.. but never been in the trades & would never say or consider myself a pro. But i have had great luck with these tools. and honestly... they arent looking to compare these to the upper tier PRO level tools. thats what they have FLEX for... and many guys i knowwhoare trades guys say FLEX has TONS of power, great batteries and once they push the line out they should be very competative. i think SKIL the mid tier now at lowes... but i agree they need to push out more for the lineup
pretty great can break free 35lbs or 150 lbs manually and then let it run the bolts off which only takes an extra second or two
Thank you. I don't care about torque breaking power for these tools either. Just speeding up taking nut off.
What are your thoughts?
Who makes that first torque wrench that you used?
That was probably the Gearwrench 1/4" torque wrench, and the second was the Sonic Tools 3/8". Thanks for watching.
Not a fan of the paddle switch. Bought a Milwaukee fuel with the paddle switch and it broke in the first week. They fixed it for free not very quickly though. Now I use MAC's ratchets and the Milwaukee sits in the box downside to MAC's ratchets are there are no battery indicators.
The mac 3 ah have battery indicator or if you don't care about matching colors, the Dewalt 12v batteries also have battery indicator and they fit mac tools and vise versa
this is great and all but we need the dcf901
Very soon. ;). Thanks for watching.
I have the dcf901 great tool when working on suspension parts
Shop Tool Reviews has a good review of the Skil ratchet for those interested.
Personally I prefer a good old fashion speed wrench. It's faster and easier to accesses tight spots with the proper extensions and wobbles not to mention the amount of "nut busting" torque it delivers is limited only by ones own strength. Cordless power ratchets are just a tool in search of a problem, heck if there was a need for a powered ratchet there would have been corded ones a hundred years ago.
Did they have corded power tools in 1921? And do you use wood drill braces instead of drills then? Powered ratchets have been around way before battery powered ratchets as pneumatic powered ratchets.
Electric ratchets are not breaker bars nor are they Impact wrenches
They are nut runners and should be used as such
Quality content as usual. Unrelated but, Tim, do you know where to find the new dewalt 12 volt impact wrench kit 3/8 or 1/2 either one. I can't find them. My lowes has the 901b tool only that's it.
Their supplier of 3/8 anvils went bankrupt. Leaving Dewalt high and dry. They’re coming but slowly.
Yeah, as Juan mentioned, they're slow getting these out. Several have received them, but not a lot. Thanks for watching.
Do you have access to a Mac Tools dealer? The 3/8" bundle kit P/N: DCF903GJ1G1-BDL is currently on promo until June 13 for $399 (Flyer 06). It includes 5ah and 3ah 12v Max batteries, charger, kit bag also a 10 pc 3/8" 10 to 19mm impact swivel socket rail set and a 3/8" universal joint.
This is the second generation of Skil 12v ratchet. First generation broke up in my hands after 1 month purchase.
In general Skil it's only for occasional use. Anything over a lazy-himeowner use these Skil will sucks badly
Milwaukee and MaKita had a baby.
Who has the strongest ratchet you’ve tested?
The strongest is probably Milwaukee or Ingersoll Rand, but I don't put a lot of value in the torque on these ratchets. As I mention in the video, these are nut-running devices, not impact wrenches. I'm looking for more speed out of these. Thanks for watching.
It would be nice if manufactures would be honest about their specs.
Yeah, we understand what you mean. At the same time, I don't believe it's negligence or any intent on their part. As we mentioned, it seems that all the manufacturers have higher numbers on their ratchets. We may be testing totally different than they do. The problem is, there is no "standardized testing" procedures for measuring torque in the tool industry. Thanks for watching.
@@Shoptoolreviews maybe. I wonder if some are using specs like torque at the motor or at direct drive with no socket or maybe like Makitas tool listing motor rpm instead of socket or drive speed.
Their batteries are good because they are owned by Bosch so they share tech.
0 - 220 RPM.
Seems a bit spendy
Seriously? $130 for the kit.?. That's Harbor freight territory.
What is the price point you're expecting for the tool, battery, and charger?? This is very cheap. Thanks for watching.
Another cordless ratchet 3/8 @ 230 rpm, not impressed. The market is already flooded with new cordless ratchets. I'd like to see more brands come out with something more original rather than keeping up with the jonses.
Yea but you also have to understand each brand should be able to offer a variant of there own so their users can stay on the battery system
We see your point, but the fact that their selling the whole kit for $130 is very impressive. Thanks for watching.
First ?
Thanks for watching.
All battery ratchets are dog poop for an actual mechanic only 1/4 inch ones are worth buying
We'll let that be your little secret. There are plenty of mechanics that use the 3/8" and 1/2" battery powered ratchets every day. Thanks for watching.
Milwaukee m12 fuel fast ratchet is better
