    I just completed this update, and your video came in very handy. Thanks. One thing I did find is that after 12 years in place, the two screws holding the old Wi-Fi card just wouldn't budge. I had to use WD-40, pinch-off pliers and a lot of sweat to work them loose. After that, the rest was easy.

      YEs those screws can be a bitch, because apple uses locktite on them.

    Hey Lance, I can confirm that Open Core Legacy Patcher works just fine. I installed Monterey using the standard Open Core tools and your neat EFI config.plist trick to complete the installation without problems but yes, BT and WiFi were lost. So, I downloaded the Open Core Legacy Patcher and applied the patches to my fresh installation of Monterey and now BT and Wifi are back! I can also boot from any other OS using this method. Mavericks, High Sierra, Linux, Big Sur, Monterey, so yes, you can boot from other OS. You can save big bucks by using the OCLP tool. The only drawback is that you won't have AirDrop or Continuity but if you only need to pair your mouse and keyboard or stream music to your BT Speakers then this is a life changer. I didn't care much about loosing my wifi when I installed Big Sur since I connect my Mac Pro over ethernet but Bluetooth it's really important to me since I have the nice Apple new keyboard and mouse and I didn't want to loose them so finding this tool was a life saver. It is so cool to have my Mac Pro still working great after so many years, it's a great machine and I have mine heavily upgraded with 12 cores, 64 GB of RAM, PCIe SSD, Bluray Drive, 4 x 8 TB SATA HDDs, Radeon 16GB GPU and an Apple Cinema 30" Display. I do own a few more recent Macs but this is still my favorite, and still faster than many newer ones. And your videos, they are great, very well explained and super helpful. Kind of cool to see the upgrades you've made to your computer and think to myself... "me too!" Keep up the good work!

    • @MacSoundSolutions
      @MacSoundSolutions  2 роки тому

      Hey thanks for posting this info, very good to know and I will mention this and pin it. I don’t think the OCLP patch will work for Martin Lo’s package but I think he has fixed it in his latest release, not positive. Someone else said that they were not able to stream Apple Music to their homepods when they went to Monterey so they are upgrading the card. Handoff is pretty cool and I do use it quite a bit. yes the Mac Pro 5,1 keeps on rockin in 2022. Mine is now running in top form, NVMe with Big Sur, SSD in bay 1 with Monterey, Titan ridge in slot 4 also working well. Blu ray and super drives, rx5700xt, gaming in Windows in 2k at max settings is pretty sweet too. Xeon 5690s. The only thing I can do to my Mac Pro now is add more ram I only have 24gigs. It’s been fun and Apple may be releasing a new Mac Mini “Studio” at the next event. Should be interesting.

    Hi Lance! I just want to say thank you very much for all of your in-depth videos on both hardware and software installations for the Mac Pro. I can’t stress how helpful you’ve been in allowing me and my Dad to gain a greater understanding of the machine and how to upgrade/replace several hardware parts.
    In the audio field there is a massive gap of accessibility to those who lack capital to spend on a computer, MIDI controller, software, DAW, Plug-ins etc. and as someone who comes from a working class household I’ve always had to find solutions to overcome these financial obstacles. When I managed to pick up an early 2009 Mac Pro 5.1 with dented legs on Gumtree, for a mere £40, your videos have helped me upgrade this into a beast of a machine with meticulously detailed step by step video guides. It’s now running a X5690 CPU, GeForce GTX Titan GPU, 96GB (triple channel) RAM, has 3 OWC 2.5” SSD tray sleds with 7TB worth of drives in it right now and, after watching this video, it’ll be upgraded to Bluetooth 4.2 support!
    I’m not sure if you’re active on LinkedIn at all but I’d love to connect with you if so. Your work on this platform is exceptionally helpful and I plan on making a post about it soon.
    Thanks again Lance, take care.

    Legacy patcher does the trick and old 802.11N works fine , sure no fancy hand off / air drop etc ... but if you did not use these with older systems you will not miss these things. plus the $150 or so when you consider the value of the old machines (in LA $300/400) , given speed and power usage better to add the funds + fiddle around time to a fresh M1 Mini, that runs circles around a 5,1 ... just my opinion :-)

      All true, I am using Martin LO’s OC package not OCLP. I did not have a WiFi card before. I’m using Martin Lo’s latest package and Monterey 12.7 all is good except the latest safari is buggy although I got it working fine now after taking my router offline and rebooting it but at first no web sites would load. I’m on the previous version of pro tools not the very latest update but will update soon, all is very stable. Make sure to make the config.plist changes before installing Monterey, then return it to original settings after updating, easiest way is to drag and drop the original one over the one you made the changes to and reboot.

    I tested my Mac Pro 5.1 (12 cores + GTX 680 2 GB) with LPX 10.5.1 and 10.7.1. Unfortunately, it's slow in Big Sur 11.2.3. I'm sure it will be slower in Monterey. This is easily determined by the logic user interface lags and critical overloads in the projects I worked with in OS X Mojave. It seems that this upgrades are useful only for ProTools or other DAWs users

I got every song I can remember on my hard drive as a mp3 or flak. Is there a particular DAC i should get that produces great audio and doesn't cost much. Is it worth getting a vacuum tube pre-amp? Can you recommend a good pair of headphone that would give me music texture and layered audio? I can't afford high end expensive gear. I just completed the install of BCM943602CDP on mini PCIe Adapter and external antenna as shown in video. Installation went great with all antenna cables attached firmly to Broadcom card. Unfortunately I got a problem. The Bluetooth is very weak. At first it didn't detect my bluetooth devices at all. Now bluetooth detects my Apple mouse and keyboard, but both mouse and keyboard have to be very close or directly on top of computer. I also found that the known good bluetooth mouse sometimes doesn't track properly. The Wifi seems to be working great. So I'm assuming the problem must be either the Broadcom card or the cable that goes to the external antenna. Unfortunately I don't have an extension for connecting internal bluetooth antenna. Good question not totally sure, of course it also depends on your wifi router.
      AirPort Extreme with Wi-Fi 802.11n + Bluetooth 2
      AirPort Extreme with Wi-Fi 802.11ac + Bluetooth 4
      Newer model Airport Extreme card installed in 2015 and newer Macs. It offers faster wireless and bluetooth connections and supports AirDrop and Handoff. Compatible with macOS 10.13 and newer.

      Is Bluetooth working? and silly to say but make sure wifi is turned. Look in the upper right hand corner of the menu bar top of the screen can you turn wifi on there? Mine just showed up after installing. You may need to do a pram reset as you have added new hardware I can't remember if I had to do that or not, also double check the antenna cables to makes sure they are correctly connected if its seeing the card then it sees it via apple system profiler then maybe the pram will fix it. Beware that this could unbless your opencore install but it shouldn't as long as the opencore drive is installed. I did have that happen once and had to go back to mojave turn off SIP and rebless my opencore drivev.

While I want to download, for example, an update of some program, for example Firefox, some file or something else, the process stops. Are you using opencore legacy patcher or Martin Lo’s? Opencore legacy patcher has a post install patch to use the older Wi-Fi and Bluetooth cards after installing opencore. Search Mr Macintosh here on UA-cam and check out his video for installing Monterey on unsupported Macs and watch his Mac Pro 5,1 part of the video. You have to use the terminal version of opencore not the GUI version. Martins does not support the legacy Bluetooth. If you have a new card you may just have to do a PRAM reset.
