When I do the brush out, it all goes downhill from there, lol. Very straight hair. Doesn't curl (but it does this way) but gets staticy and frizzy instead...
As someone else said......anyway to get your Grandma to let you film? I have been fascinated by this hairstyle for years and would love to see a original do it!
I would pin curl my Nonna hairs and I absolutely hated it lol. It always took forever but she loved how much of a perfectionist I was . I do wish she were alive today so I could do them for her.
I remember my mother pin curling her hair every night before bed and then wrapping it with a scarf, then off to bed. Thank you for this video, it brings back so many warm memories of my Mother, who sadly, passed 10 yrs ago.
Brings back memories of the early 60s🥲. Pin curls when we ran out of the hard plastic two piece clip on pink rollers. The foam rollers were much more expensive. Sleeping on rollers was very uncomfortable but a necessity if you didn't own a hair dryer bonnet, another luxury. The style was just wonderful! It held up all day even if you had no AquaNet hairspray. My neighbor lady also used strips of old rags and made perfect Shirley Temple ringlets for her girls in a technique she called " rag curls". The ringlets could then graduate to big girl styles with the brush out. Rolled up on cloth strips and then the strips tied was ingenious. Unrolled the strips were thrown in the wash after use, dried and stored in a bag in the linen closet.
My gran and mum did my hair this way too and my middle daughter uses it as well, here we call it rag rolling or simply putting our hair in rags after a hair wash and slept in overnight
This was the most easy to follow simple routine that is actually possible for most people, yet the result is absolutely stunning!! Thank you so much for creating this video 🙏🙂xx
I put foam rollers in my 4-year-old's hair last night, and it didn't magically turn into Victorian rag curls, and she was distraught! Then I showed her this video and she loves her "Fancy Sage hair". Thank you!
I am in my eighties and the fifties were very short hair to look classy Your style is forties Pin curls were done probably in the forties and metal rollers came later which gave me headaches to sleep on Pageboy which was forties was the nicest, I think
You look like Lily James' little sister. So gorgeous! I've wanted a larger curl like yours but couldn't figure out how to set it. Thanks for the tutorial.
Oh my word Sage, your hair is so beautiful and reminds me of my mother's! She always put these kinds of curls in our hair. Great memories. :) Greetings from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA. I lived in Australia in 1990 in Fairfield outside of Sydney and loved it!
I just discovered your channel yesterday by watching your 50's dress up! I'm a guy, but I find it fascinating and you are so good at it. Looking forward to a catching up!
This is my favorite hairstyle of al time. I tried following some other tutorials but I had some trouble and got discouraged. You just troubleshooted all my issues and I am so grateful and am ready to try it again!
Miss Sage, you are a doll! I have been growing my hair for four years! That’s monumental for me, as my mom kept me in a moe or back combed like a woman in her 40’s in every school pic in the 60’s! I was hideous 😱😭. You hair style is what I am after!!! I have seen other influencers who do retro hair, but holy moly it’s a lifestyle with them. Well I found you this evening, and have been binge watching, and loving every minute of it! Because, I had decided to cut my hair off and go 70’s/ 80’s feathered with a baby mullet ROTF! I am old now, but I want to look lady like. I’ve taken to wearing dresses, and now thanks to you, I have my new doo! I’m having my hair put back to match my aged roots lol. Mink / Ash with some Carmel highlights. I was blonde until I had my son, and I have been squeezing out every last natural blonde strip…well, they are platinum!!! But not enough of them to let the whole head go! So, be it that I am no longer a widow, I have found new love, I’m going to be whom ever I want to be, as my beloved nephew advised, the night mommy dearest died, and I no longer have her mean self tormenting me. I still have my 32 year old delayed son, and will until I die… but it is what it is! I’m choosing to be happy in spite of my illnesses, losses, and struggles… at least I wake up above ground, and have two great fellas to live with, and cool influencers like you that make my year! Thanks so much! I will be watching! Hugs from Kentucky 💞Tere
I new here, you look stunning with the curls, I still have a little mistake and I get it right when I'm going to do the Page boy, but with practice everything gets right. thanks for the video💐💐
I have been looking for a way to curl my hair with a nice result for quite a long time. I love this way and now I use it daily. If someone’s hair doesn’t work very well with curls (like mine, my first attempt ended up with my hair totally straight by midday), here’s a tip: curl your hair overnight, just as Sage shows in the video. On the next morning, remove the bobby pins, loosen the curls with your fingers (very lightly, so that the curls are still very tight, just not rolled flat on your head). Apply a thin layer of hair spray. Let sit for a while to allow the hair spray dry completely. Then brush out the curls thoroughly. Apply another layer of hair spray. It took me a few times’ experimentation to find out the right amount of hair spray to give my hair the hold it needs but keep it soft. Dear Sage, I like your videos very much. Thank you for doing them so great, I am always looking forward for your next upload.
ahhhhh it looks PERFECT!! You know I've been trying to do my hair like this for so long! I'm so happy you filmed this video! I'm going to try it tonight :)
New subscriber here from the UK. Great hair tutorial, it looks lovely and I shall be giving it a go! You've clearly made a leap in a matter of days from 1000 subscribers to over 5000, amazing, congratulations ! I've just watched your 'week as a 1950s' housewife' video. You put such a lot of effort into it and I enjoyed every minute. Stay safe X
Your hair is so pretty! I'm still learning to use rollers and am nowhere near mastering pin curls but I've been dressing vintage style for a while now and love it! I love how classy I feel in a vintage outfit and it's really helped my confidence finding my style. Love your channel Sage, I'm a happy New subbie! 😄
First of all, your hair is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Secondly, you should be working in Hollywood California in the movie industry, teaching these hair stylists how to do vintage hair designs. Your vintage set looks so much more authentic than any movie I have seen trying so hard to achieve what you have done here, so very much better! This was simply FLAWLESS.
I love every one of the videos you post! You're just adorable and you bring a new life into the vintage era. Thank you for sharing your lovely videos ♡
This is so much fun to watch! I have pretty curly hair and you would think that would help with hairs like this, but nope! My hair will knot just looking at it and natural curls are VERY unruly. I just donated a 13" braid and still getting used to short hair! Haven't had this short of hair since I was like 6! I was adopted and had to have my haircut short for a variety of reasons, it was so short I was mistaken as a boy alot. Long hair for me became the symbol of being a girl and then a lady. I have been trying to bring myself to donate so hopefully another little girl will get help. But I was.....attached (couldn't resist it!) To my hair so it took a little while. I live in a farm so my braid, while always kept neat and dead ends trimmed and had to take a bit of damaged off a few years ago, was starting to get me concerned that it was going to get caught in a lawn mower engine when I bent over or something. It was about to my rear end hanging straight down out of braid. It is kind of nice to have "short" hair cor a change. This is the first easy video I have seen for this hairstyle, thank you! I am going to have to try and get this crazy hair controlled!
I'm subIng because you remind me of my mother when you dress up like that and the things that you do are so nostalgic to me, I just love it and you're just so sweet ....I'm disabled and I try to find things to watch since I don't have cable and I found your channel so cute. Ty for warming my heart 💕
I curled my hair with foam hair rollers last night with your tutorial for the first time and I love the way it turned out! I wish I could post a picture to show you. Thank you!! 💜
I have serious hair envy, yours is so shiny and looks so healthy! Foam rollers make my hair super frizzy so I think I need to practice pin curls more. Would love to see a video on your clothes, you always look darling!
I love your channel ❤️ the style and dressing from that time period , just so gorgeous, ladies look so elegant, feminine, pretty, classy .... that's it, I'm going to learn how to do my hair like this and learn to incorporate these styles into my dressing up, something interesting to learn n look forward to☺️
Ah, this video makes me yearn for long hair, I can't wait till mine grows out again. I used to have the exactly same hairdo before, but I was using a curling iron. My relationship with rollers is rocky, but I still use big ones, if I want 60s-esque look instead of my usual 40s look.
I always watched my Grandma pin curl her customers hair when I was a little girl💫💋👏🏻❤️She was lighting fast!!!!!!! LOL I use sponge rollers for my hair. I style my hair like Marilyn🤗even though I have a bobbed styled it works out great☕️☕️🎀❤️
You are so cute wearing your hair in the 50’s. I have very long hair, to my waist and used to make French rolls and other fun styles I love the fashion and the lifestyle and would have loved to live as a housewife then but I was born in the late 50’s but did admire Jackie Kennedy’s style. When I was 2 Yrs old I pointed out a woman wearing matching shoe, purse, hat and gloves. I loved he style during this era.
Love watching your videos You remind me of me when I was young I am 58 years old I am blessed with 4 children You have a great voice and personality Very beautiful
I tried this but it didnt work for me. What did i do wrong? After brushing they were just frizzy. Could it be a problem of the brush? Are my hair too thin? I realy would like to have such beautifuo curls 😍
Hi sage.I live in Edmonton Alberta,Canada I saw your video on living a week, and was captivated. You did such a great job showing more than fashion. The whole sense of organization and work involved in being a good Housewife is even today is terribly shunned and misinterpreted.
I don't think you have to do the whole thing every day. You certainly weren't washing it every day. It doesn't take long, and I stink at it, lol. You wear your hair snood (like a tube you put your head through) once maybe twice a week with the new do.
When I first got into vintage I was scared hair would be so hard but actually it's no where near as hard work as I thought It would be. Finding vintage reproduction clothes on the other hand is difficult 😂
Gorgeous hairstyle😍 yes I have ethnic cruly wavy 24 inch hair and I love the form rollers, it gives cute cruls but I am not good at styling my hair😌😅 but I absolutely love your hair 😍
Love your channel, Sage! So cool. Wonder if you’d be willing to do a video of your page boy set. Somehow I simply love the way it looks like on you. It could also be that I need a haircut...ahhh the pandemic.
Thank you! 💕 haha I’m not very talented with makeup! I literally use lipstick and just curl my eyelashes! But I’ll add it to my video list and hopefully get better at makeup by then! 😂
Oh WOW so you've hit 21k subscribers so fast! Congratulations, that's SO exciting! I'm so happy to have found your channel, finding other Vintage youtubers is the best!
My Mom had very thick curly hair - sadly I have poker straight, thin, fine hair so during my childhood in the 50's my poor Mom found my hair to be a total frustration.I can't count how many Toni home perms she gave me, but my hair grows fast and they would grow out too quickly. Also I can remember really hating them and crying the entire time she was doing it, and I hated sleeping in the pincurls she would put in my hair. I much preferred a ponytail! By the time the 60's came along I would set my hair on rollers and actually sleep on them - torture. Then I wore it in a flip, as almost everyone did. The year electric heated rollers came out I begged for them for Christmas - how wonderful it was to sleep without rollers in my hair!!! However, I would have to get up earlier in the morning to heat up the curlers and set my hair.
Time stamps:
1:25 Hair set
4:46 Brush out
Looks like a german soldier's wife in 1942
When I do the brush out, it all goes downhill from there, lol. Very straight hair. Doesn't curl (but it does this way) but gets staticy and frizzy instead...
Oh no! I believe pomade has been known to be good with frizzy hair 💕
Love this video, I'm going to try this for Church this Sunday for the Christmas 🎄 service
@Victoria Sexton You are so welcome! xx
This is EXACTLY how my grandma does her hair- the same way in 2020 as she did in 1955. Gorgeous!!
Wow, that's amazing! Thank you :)
How interesting! I wish some of the older ladies would film tutorials, too, so we could see how they do it! Any chance of that? 😊
As someone else said......anyway to get your Grandma to let you film? I have been fascinated by this hairstyle for years and would love to see a original do it!
I was born in 1955. Early 1960’s I learned to not tell my mom it was school picture day. She could do the tightest pin curls!
I would pin curl my Nonna hairs and I absolutely hated it lol. It always took forever but she loved how much of a perfectionist I was . I do wish she were alive today so I could do them for her.
@@christyromanic6486I liked the pin curls better than the sponge rollers. I liked the spoolies best.
I remember my mother pin curling her hair every night before bed and then wrapping it with a scarf, then off to bed. Thank you for this video, it brings back so many warm memories of my Mother, who sadly, passed 10 yrs ago.
I’m sorry to hear about your mother xx I’m glad you enjoyed the hairstyle and could remember your mother fondly! ❤️
sorry for your loss

Aqua Net, the smell of the 1980s!! Lol. I have some for setting pencil drawings.
that’s amazing thank you for sharing :)
My gran and mum did my hair this way too and my middle daughter uses it as well, here we call it rag rolling or simply putting our hair in rags after a hair wash and slept in overnight
My mom would rag curl mine and my sisters hair when we were little. It was in the 90s but my mom loved that look.
I find putting a hairnet on before wrapping in a scarf REALLY helps everything stay put overnight 😁
That’s a good idea!
Thank you! Ive trying to find a tip like this
Thanks for the tip! I never thought to do this!!!! Brilliant!
This was the most easy to follow simple routine that is actually possible for most people, yet the result is absolutely stunning!! Thank you so much for creating this video 🙏🙂xx
Thank you very much! ❤️Awh, I’m so glad I could help! Xx

Oh my gosh that’s so cute!! ☺️💕
That is a girl mom goal, I love it! 🥰 How did your little one get into these types of styles?
I am in my eighties and the fifties were very short hair to look classy
Your style is forties

Pageboy which was forties was the nicest, I think

Yes!! I was thinking this too!! She’s beautiful

You can make bigger pin curls
Oh my gosh, I couldn’t figure out who she reminded me of until you said this! It’s so true!
Absolutely gorgeous! And the hair's not bad either ;) Would like to see the full head of pincurls too :)
Haha thank you very much! That’s a good idea, I’ll add that to my list of videos!
Me, a guy watching this: *ah yes, I will keep this in mind for future reference*
That’s lovely!! My mother used to do my hair like this every Saturday night. That was in the late 60’s, early 70’s.
You look so much like Agent Carter from the Marvel movies!😍 You are absolutely gorgeous and are my FAVORITE youtuber ever!
Lovely tutorial and so helpful! I love that this is completely heatless - so much better for your hair.

Not weird at all!
I'm a guy and it's not weird. I watch for my girlfriend as well. I have three sisters, but when Mom was gone, I'd help my younger sister with her's.
Thats amazing 🤩
This is my favorite hairstyle of al time. I tried following some other tutorials but I had some trouble and got discouraged. You just troubleshooted all my issues and I am so grateful and am ready to try it again!

I love your videos so much!! Dont ever stop making them!! You make me so happy!
Thank you! 🥰
@@SageLilleyman yes of course!
Can you do a 50s makeup tutorial to? You look great! Thanks for a great video!💕
Thank you! 💕 haha I’m not very talented with makeup! I literally use lipstick and just curl my eyelashes! But I’ll add it to my video list and hopefully get better at makeup by then! 😂
I will be trying it thank you
Oh WOW so you've hit 21k subscribers so fast! Congratulations, that's SO exciting! I'm so happy to have found your channel, finding other Vintage youtubers is the best!
Thank you SO much!! ❤️💕 It is very exciting and hard to believe at times! 😂
You definitely deserve the growth!
Thank you, that means so much! 💗💕
So fun to hear you say 1,000 subscribers and now just a month later you are heading to 40k 😊
I'm new here but I'm obsessed now!! What a cool idea for a channel!!!
I'm a guy but you're just so gorgeous and your voice is so cute. The production is really well done. I will subscribe.
Thank you so much for subscribing! 😊
Wow, I can't believe how long your hair is to start. You look just like my mom circa 1950, except she was blonde.
Very, very cool video 😍! Loved how this turned out! Thanks for sharing ❤️!
Thanks so much for watching!! 💕🥰
@@SageLilleyman You’re welcome 🤗!
That is so beautiful!! 😍
You should have a million subs!
