To account for the type of creative experience Paul Simon is describing the ancient Greeks believed that gods such as the Muses, Apollo or Dionysus breathed ideas into the recipient. The Greek word for this inspiration was ἐνθουσῐᾰσμέ (enthousiasmé), the origin of the English word enthusiasm, in which a god would breathe into you, possess you or in some uncertain way impart an idea that seemingly comes out of the blue with no particular effort or your part. Paul’s description of this song is a very good example of where we get the Greek concept of “inspiration,” which early Christian founders like there apostle Paul used to describe the source of written scripture. I’ve had this happen to me several times with pieces of music, and it is indeed amazing to have something come into your mind that so far as you know never existed in the universe before and suddenly it is in your head with no way to account for it.
@tristen_grant, Martin Guitars made by C. F. Martin & Company, headquartered in Nazareth, Pennsylvania (and I believe still built there) are considered some of the best guitars made.
Which is a concept borrowed by the first century Hellenized Jews who wrote the New Testament which they borrowed directly from Ancient Greek concept of inspiration.
Wow, what an amazing voice listening to Paul Simon just him and his guitar…..

I feel like Paul Simon could possibly be a Trans Woman.
So he "stole" parts of other songs and put them together to write BOTW!
The same as every other artist ever. The genius is in sowing it all together to make it utterly unique.
All music, all art is derivative.
