Ken Brookins - Late 80's early 90's my friend, Freddie Woods, a tall black man from Detroit was a drummer in a local band & a DJ at KOMP a rock station in Vegas for years. One of the biggest and baddest head bangers I ever knew and an AWESOME radio personality! Biggest fan of KISS i ever knew, too. His skin color was irrelevant to me. In fact, we had been hanging out for a couple of years when one day I said to him, "OMG! Freddie you're a black man!". He replied, " You just noticed that?". "Actually, yes" I replied. We both laughed about that for a long time afterwards. When he would play the song "Hot Cherie" by Hardline at KOMP during his shift, that was a cue for me to come by the station with a bottle of Gewertztiminer (sp?) wine. He got a lot of "love" from the white chicks always until he married one. We had so much fun hanging out back then. Then, as is now, skin color means nothing to me. It's the person inside that matters. Ken Brookins, keep on rocking!

    • @SuperGorak
      @SuperGorak 7 років тому +14

welcome to the world of skin-color-doesn't-matter; and "black" is a strange word for a culture (which is shaped passively by slavery and Jim Crow) rather than a race. As a white guy who is also into this music, I feel like I share some assets of the "black" culture despite my taste in music, but I don't really need to elaborate on this, man. Don't feel weird.

I've been in this "Private Chair" since a 1992 train accident which left me paralyzed since the age of 17. I've used this song as a call to arms if you know what I mean to be the best man that I can be. My daughter calls me the greatest Dad she could ever ask for, so that's good enough for me. Thank you to Queensryche for this song and all who have helped me on this long, painful journey. I won't be torn between the man in the chair and the man who's in my dreams!!

Within Queensryche's music from '86 to '90, you could hear a very subtle proggy vibe (namely Rush, Saga, Pink Floyd), along with the main influence (Iron Maiden). That's why, at that time, the band was so popular (and so original).

This song describes me surviving a catastrophic Traumatic Brain Injury, TBI, from being shot twice in the head. I wasn't wheelchair bound, but when the horror is trapped in your head, you can't escape it. I'm now 38 years post injury and have accomplished more than I ever thought I could have. "Now I'm moving forward and I'm never looking back," powerful words I've lived. Music has power and Metal has driven me forward and classical music and jazz allows me to chill out. Bottom line, never quit on yourself, never stop, never say never! Thanks Queensryche, I've chosen to be the "Best I Can."- US ARMY Veteran, ENGINEERS!

Don't worry, dear he'll never find the gun
A child alone in daddy's room
    The gun was hidden here
No one home to catch me when I fall
A young man now in a private chair
I've seen the world through a bitter stare
But my dream is still alive
I'm going to be the best I can
I want to be a busy man
I want to see a change in the future
I'm gonna make the best of what I have
I want to write for a magazine
I'm gonna be the best they've ever seen
I know I'll win if I give it all I can
    I won't let go
Gotta make the grade, no I won't let go
To be the best man, the best man that I can
Back street hoop star you've got it good
You were the wonder of the crumbling neighborhood
Now taking bids on the next six digit plan
Showed me that my will survived
The tragedy that came into my life
Giving me hope and the new start that I have
    And I won't let go
Gotta make the grae no, I won't let go
To be the best man, the best man that I can
Step by step I dream the plan
From my chair to walking man
This constant dream is on my mind
Chase the light I see ahead
    Luminate the path I tread
I live to be the best I can
Now I'm moving forward and I'm never looking back
Straight ahead, focused on the big attack
On a roll and I'm never slowing down
    I won't be torn between
The man in the chair and the man that's in my dream
I'm going to melt the two men into one
    And I won't let go
Gotta make the grade I set no, I won't let it go
    To be the best man,
The best man that I can
The best man that I can
The best man that I can

Agree with you bandwise. Just those hand signs. The actual one who wrote this lyric Best I Can is not in the band and about as far away from Lucifer as you can get
      Trust me I know
The Monster gets all his lyrics by musical possession. In a trance
118 so far and twenty in this calibre. DeGarmo composed it. He made the prayer by an 11 year old boy that took more than 16 years to be answered. DeGarmo made that prayer come true and was blessed of the True God. Pray to the only one who can hear and answer prayers. Not Lucifer.
Him, his punk kenite offspring and the global elite will wish they were dead when the REAL MESSIAH sets foot on the ground. And he's coming

After a Car Crash in Little Rock Arkansas back in 1997 that broke both of my legs and was forced to a Wheelchair for a while with casts on both of my legs. I was told that I would probably never walk again and this was my life going forward.
I contemplated Suicide and just ending myself until a former friend made me start listening to this track over and over again. It gave me the Strength to Fight back and take my life back. I stared Death in the face but I didnt let death take my life or the life that I live now.
In the Verse I wont be torn between the man in the Chair and the man in my dreams, I'm going to melt the 2 men into 1.
That gave me the strength and the power to come back from that part of my life and now I'm walking and have been since 1999. I have a 15yr old daughter and living in Florida.
I'm truly being the Best I Can

Now I am a quadriplegic trying to live the best I can and trying to do the best I can for me and my fellow human beings!! Queensryche has been a very special part in my life especially this song has helped keep me out of serious depression and to help me continue the fight to live a happy life.

      I care for you man
      WCB retired me till 70
      Am 60 now
December 07/21 will be my fourth year knocked out of my tragedy
Am awake in the midst of a 3 day pain event
      Keep up your good 💪works
No later than 2068 Lucifer comes in a spaceship with his 7,000 fallen
He'll pop up on one Beltane
      A 2 day April 30 and May 1st
      April 30 is my birthday
666 is no riddle it's simple Satan comes in the 6th seal, 6th vial and the 6th trump as written in the book of Revelations
Almost all the world believes him
      Wait out the storm
5 months later the real Messiah comes and the ark angel Michael lays hold on him and puts him in the pit for 1,000 years while the whole world now in supernatural bodies sees it
The ones who did not worship the filthy dog stay in The Millennium Temple and all those suckers are outside
After the 1,000 years he is released a short season
      Whoever sides with him then?
      Well
I wouldn't want to be them at The Great White Throne Judgement
The only thing a soul gets to take with them is their good works
      Keep it up

It sucks ass that the first progressive metal band that wrote the most thought provoking, mind-expanding music has parted ways. Geoff Tates' vocals crushed everyone and still do. And Chris DeGarmos' guitar work and songwriting stand alone. Metal has a vitality of its own and has taken music to the extreme ; it cannot get any harder, faster, technical, emotional nor progressive. That is why it is the sickest form of music humans can create.
