Never ceases to amaze me how wholesome the Metal community is. You meet your idols in other genres or watch them and they just don't have the same excited kid energy.
As a femalw who'd love to be able to sing more "aggressive" songs, I thank you. You're the first person I've found to both make a great tutorial and also has a way of singing and a voice that I like! Thank you so much!
Oh damn. This is the only video I have found adressing these kind of vocals directly more in depth. I have kind of figured some out on my own but I think this will be very helpful. Cheers!

i've learned so much from you. i always dreamt of being a heavy metal singer and especially the "eaaah"-sound was SO difficult for me! thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!! i love and support you for ever!
When an opera singer says 'head voice' they usually mean what is often called 'mixed voice.' Classically mixed voice isn't a thing and what is often called head voice is actually called 'falsetto'-and is known as that classically (including by most opera singers).
This actually wasn’t the video I was looking for but I’m so happy I watched it cause 1. You’re entertaining 2. You helped me realize I actually kind of naturally having this kind of singing voice! So 3. Your awesome! Cheers Nathan Sanguinetti
good video. I think you explained things well here. I'm a metal vocalist, not power metal but i'm a screamer. It always came naturally to me. Thank you for pointing out "if it hurts, stop". i never understood why some people out there would scream til they bleed. Anyway, i ended up here after a couple Seven Spires videos! Its rare for a melodic metal band to catch my attention and i like it! cheers!!
Hi Adrienne, I just wanted to say that I just discovered you on UA-cam and HELL yeah I subscribed. I am crazy impressed with your ability and talent. I have been binge watching all of your videos. I love the music the band is great and the lyrics are fresh. The soothing sound of your voice the range you have and the way you switch your singing style within the songs, not to mention your stage presence is out of this world. I'm a huge huge fan of what you do and I'm sooo glad I found your channel. Good luck with everything that you strive for. I'm absolutely positive you will succeed no matter what it is. So friggin' AWESOME!!
Love love LOVE that there was a "Daniel Heiman vocal line drop" in there! ;) Haha! I have enjoyed your singing for quite some time, and your knowledge too is stupendous! I'm SUCH a huge fan... This is great and informative!!
Thank you so much for this video! It's so difficult to find any videos done by other mezzo-sopranos, so most stuff ends up being slightly above or below my range. 🙏 I'll have to use these tips next time I warm up!
Thanks so much for sharing, Ms. Cowan! What you do is absolutely amazing. You always look great and sound divine, and the metaphors you choose to describe the way of singing are so bright and wonderful.
Accidentally figured it out while listening to the first minute, still gonna finish watching though. Power screams are literally the only thing I've struggled with in screaming, glad I got it down.
Super helpful. My voice sounds like utter garbage with the first ten minutes of rehearsals. After all my resonators are loosened, I can belt and scream without pain. These tips will be really helpful in not blasting it like a trombone every time I go to hit a high note, and getting my voice ready sooner.
Saw you yesterday at Avantasia. Great show, great voice. So i found this video, sad the link to the other video is not active right now. Hope you have a great Tour!
oh, so it looks like i was right! okay, so i dont have a space to practice this yet (i need to find one). but last night i yelled at my neighbor to shut up...and when i did that, the grit showed up. BUT key thing is? the grit was comfy, and my voice sounded how i wanted it to!! (also, i hit like specifically for you mentioning Baz. love his voice)
Oh God, thank you so much!! I tried so hard to find at least one GOOD tutorial how to do this scream, and AT LAAAST someone (such cute girl) did splendid job! All metal gods bless you \m/
I don't know why this came up on my recommended but it did!! But you take things from Elizabeth Sabine who was a vocal coach and also my Grandmother in law! Was really nice hearing you mimic her studies.
This was helpful, and it just shows that singing, like almost anything else I can think of at the top of my head requires a holistic approach. You gotta BE it, to do it right. Loved the Kamelot reference. You're a good singer, keep it up!!
Oh man, that is so true!! It's absolutely a thing that requires full being engagement haha. Thank you very much, and I'm so glad you found it helpful :)
Following your video and never having heard your music before....I've located a very hidden "voice." Never knew I could sing like this. Holy crap. Time to get drunk and go sing some Tay Swift Karaoke with my new found metal voice. THANK YOU!
It's amazing Adrienne! I've been following you for some years and I really like your charismatic voice and personality. I've been a composer and singer since I was 18 and I am 40 right now, I sang from Heavy metal, Power metal, Death metal, Opera... and of course I sung all the Avantasia's songs😁 Keep on making good videos such as this and say hello to Tobias Sammet on my behalf😊
Wow you sound awesome :) I bet you're great live, I'm in a metal core band as a vocalist I wanted to add grit to my singing and this was very helpful :)

Oh my goodness. Thank youuu so much!! This helped me a lot. I can do deep growls but I'm working on doing the high pitch screams too .. And this is so helpful! :)
Can confirm. As a father of three, babies can, in fact, scream all day without losing their voice. It's incredible how they instinctively use their vocal apparatus, where as we get older we learn to greatly limit and diminish what we can do without specifically training to unlearn those habits.
Tip when you strength up your diaphragm brorrow a brass Instrument like a euphonim ,tuba, French horn and trombone and go play sounds really loud through the instrument and it will strengthen your diaphragm
The diaphragm is not used to exhale forcefully, you do not need to "work on the strength there" as you say. Its only contribution to exhalation is a passive return to its relaxed state (raised). It is an inspiratory muscle that contracts and moves inferiorly which increases the volume of the thoracic cavity which lowers the air pressure in the lungs (Boyle's law) which causes atmospheric air to rush into the lungs (Fick's law). When the diaphragm is relaxed it moves back upwards and contributes to exhalation. Just saying; most people get this wrong, including singing teachers, because they often have an almost non existent understanding of anatomy, physiology and voice science. That aside, I quite like your band.
This is not exactly what I was looking for, but still pretty useful information. If anyone knows of any tutorial to achieve a sort Eric Adams (Manowar) sound, I'd appreciate a link!
Groovemaster2k dude you can't mix the two simultaneously. Falsetto is head voice with almost no cord closure or compression. You'd need a solid voice without the airiness of falsetto to sing like Eric from Manowar
I think he uses a sort of reinforced head voice, with varying amounts of grit. I'm not sure what else he does, I think he places the head voice in his 'mask' (around the nose or so, I think) and/or lowers his larynx, to give it a fuller/mixed voice like tone(without actually using chest voice).
This is the closest thing you're gonna get on UA-cam my dude. I've been a Manowar fan for years and i just ended up teaching myself. Now I'm in a band ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't know why this was in my recommendation but I'm not disappointed😂😂😂 Probably because I watch metal related videos but I'm not a vocalist. Wtf😂😂😂
This and the metal scream tutorial videos are both very informative! Having played instrumental music in school (flute and alto sax), I'm very familiar with using the diaphragm, but I'm super out of practice. This was super interesting, though!

Testosterone and power
mix your head voice and falsetto together at the same time with proper breath support.
