Although I realize that for moisture reasons, sometimes plastic pots are more practical, I must say I do love love the look of the beautiful green shades of plants against the color of terra cotta pots. Just so beautiful and aestheticlly pleasing.
I love how you show us everything! You always find a way to place your camera at an optimal angle and you always take the time to make that Canon focus 😂 I love seeing the roots of the plants and hear your thought process when you repot. I’ve learned SO MUCH from you in the past few months. Thank you for the amazing content Fern💚✨
I always use 2 containers when repotting, so I can take the plant out of the old pot in one of them, and use that to transfer the old soil to the new pot! You should try it ☺️ always a joy when you post, thanks 💚
Hey Fern, there's something about reporting videos, that is so relaxing and enjoyable. So thanks my helping me enjoy this evening before I start a nightshift 🙂
I know it’s alittle late but terracotta pots suck up the water and are more suited for dryer plants like cacti or succulents. I use ceramic or plastic pots for my aroids and they’re doing great and are able to retain moisture in the soil.
I love that song at the end of your videos! It often gets stuck in my head so I decided to download it. Lol Such a nice tune. 👍 I also love your videos! 😉 It is the highlight of my day when I see a video from you uploaded. 🥰
I’ve just started using mychorriza as well and mine says to use 1 tablespoon per 10 litres of soil 🙈 I can’t be bothered with all that so I just sprinkle the tiniest amount, like a baby-pinch into each pot really close to the roots
Hi Fern, although I use only plastic pots (need the lingering moisture) and therefore ca'nt be sure about the terracotta pots drainage hole size, I plug all of the holes in pot with leca balls (just place a big ball on the top of the hole and cover with soil) - it provides enough cover but in the same time allows the water to drain :-)
YESSSS!!!!! Mycorrhizae is good for your roots! It forms a symbiotic relationship with the roots and helps with the uptake in nutrients and water. In turn, the plant gives it some carbohydrates. I get excited when I see a colony on my roots 🥰
The roots on your gloriosum are GLORIOUS and your rectangular terracotta pot is sweet Fern 😻 You can add the myco to your little plants you potted, just dig around the plant, add a little and cover with soil 🤍
Hey Fern, regarding the drainage hole and the mesh you use, alternatively you can just use a pretty decent size of bark from your soil mix. That's what I do with mine and haven't had any issues of soil going through the drainage hole when being watered. Hope this helps!
Same here, I usually pick out the biggest flat bark pieces from my mix and strategically 😂 place them in the bottom, sometimes anchored by a few small rocks or a thin perlite layer Before that I was using small pieces of screen mesh, which I didn’t really have an issue with being able to get it off the roots per se, but then again I have had to cut them off roots that had grown through before
@@gutplants oh whoops 🤭 sorry I probably didn't hear or my kid had my attention the time she said it, but either way glad to hear I'm not the only one that does it. ❤️
Hi Fern! I'm always looking forward to your new videos! My favorite planty gal! The cal-mag plus the mycorrhizal powder is going to make your plants explode with luscious new growths! They are already stunning, I can just imagine how they'll look in a few more months! I'm so excited for you! 👀💕🪴
I actually have my gloriosum in the same pot 😍 I saw your original video with that pot and fell in love. A few months later randomly came across it while birthday shopping with my BFF. Had to get it
Just use a coffee filter or piece of paper towel in the bottom of your pots. That will hold the soil in until your plant roots and will eventually decompose.
Hi Fern, I have a Hoya Shepherdii that is 2 leaves and a stick. It has been for quite a long time should I try repotting it to maybe motivate it to do something? Thanks for your videos! Beverly
Omg I was just about to make a comment about that I never knew Maranta grew tubers, I had a HUGE beautiful one that needed to be reported and mine had a bunch of those, I freaked out I thought they were nematodes, I took a few cutting and throw the plant away, no I want to cry 🥴😑🥲😅!!!!!
I have my McDowell in a long planter now too, and it does look odd in a half empty pot. I'm just not sure how quickly it crawls and wanted to give it room. 🤷 I do make sure I am careful about over watering though since it's in a larger planter than it currently needs.
Just a quick glance at your Ikea cabinet at the end there made me wonder if you've thought about some kind of tier system to put your smaller plants on to give more room? It looks like the top half of the cabinet isn't really getting much use aside from poles (and the Amydrium but you said you're moving it soon). Reason I mention it is I'm thinking about it for my grow tank. You can get those cupboard shelf things where you put one sort of plate/cup on the bottom and then above it is another layer and you can put the other kind on the top shelf to free up shelf space? I've seen ones for cans and the like as well. Also I just realised in this video that the gorgeous rainbow cardigan I thought you have isn't a rainbow cardigan and it's just your lights haha
Yes I’ve seen people use suction cups and/or put a grid on the sides and hang plants from there. I’m thinking of doing something like that because I’d like some of my smaller Hoya to get a boost up closer to the light!
Maranta crazy here! I have 3...crocodile, madalian, and the every day(don't know the name) prayer plant Looking for my next one, they do so well for me. Great video!
They were from a friend so I'm not sure, but they look similar to these: www.amazon.com/EBaokuup-10PCS-Clear-Nursery-Humidity/dp/B08TM5GQVT/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2Q4OAJ39J073R&keywords=square%2Bclear%2Bplant%2Bpot&qid=1654542378&sprefix=square%2Bclear%2B%2Caps%2C119&sr=8-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExQjZQSTRKMUZYR1FWJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTM3Nzg3TDVTWEFEVUdUREpFJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAwODgyODUzTlJMR09XUExHQUVPJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ&th=1
I rotted a Hoya sunrise in terracotta a few months back, learned my lesson.. Hoya and terracotta just don't mix unfortunately. Its such a shame cause they look SO good in them =/.
i have a question!!! does it make a difference to break out the soil from the roots when u repot? or can u just plop them right in there and they’ll grow the same ?
Mycorrhizal innoculants - it’s a fungus that forms a symbiotic relationship with plants and encourages healthier roots :) I will talk about it more after I’ve used it for awhile.
I use tissue paper a little piece just enough to cover the hole for some time to let the soil stay in place or I use coco cubes to block it but like 70% blocked and 30% loose so that the water won't rush through the drainage hole and will also help you saturate the soil for a little bit. I hope it helps 💚

Ooh I just got a rehab gloriosum and I keep hearing that she’ll do best in a long planter. Seeing you pot yours up in one seals the deal for me 😌

i just got a top cutting of gloriosum today!!!! im so excited and thank you for the vid xoxoxo from PEI!!!
I need to make a list! Great idea.
I potted up some Sansaveria Whitney while watching.
I’ve got so much repotting to do I feel overwhelmed!

Fern...I use used rinsed coffee filters to cover the drainage holes. They work wonderfully for any type of plant or pot.💚
I use the produce mesh for quick drying pot scrubbies

How quickly does it crawl? Does yours only fill up halfway also.
@@sarahwatterson-reber306 definitly a fast grower, I started with mine taking half of the long pot and now two months later it's at 2/3 of the pot😅

I have re pot so many plants in the last few days lol these videos have been good motivation. 💕👌🏻
For drainage holes I’ve been using bonsai mesh pads, they’re these small mesh disks you can put over a drainage hole.
You are absolutely going to love dynomyco!! I add it in my soul mixture
Great video! I love how relaxed and organic your videos feel 😍.
Hope the myco works miracles like everyone claims! 🤞✨🤣
Thank you 🥺 I hope so too! Appreciate you watching x
What is the white “lump” on your Maranta at 9:30? Do they grow like Alocasias where you can propagate it that way? :)
I think they're tubers that store nutrients. You can't propagate them like you can Alocasia corm. I wish you could though lol!

Can you tell me where you got the clear plastic square pots you used ? Thanks ☺️

I have no idea sorry, they were a gift! I haven't seen them around anywhere either.
If you cover a terracotta pot with nail polish, acrylic paint or something like that, it doesn’t dry that fast. Try with marantha
I love when u upload new videos of makes my day and I love how down to earth you are

You can break them up but I’ve found it doesn’t make much of a difference. Roots are strong and they will find their way :)
Can u cover ur gloriosum like the crawling stem with soil? And if u water over the stem will it rot? Great vid
I don't think you're supposed to cover it. If you did then you would definitely be risking rot.

I do this too! It's perfect, keeps the soil in just long enough to stabilize before it degrades.
