Received my new Player SSS strat in Buttercream a couple days ago. Loving it.
Very close in comparison to my 2010 American standard strat.

I ordered mine the day they were released. I've been playing it for 3 days straight, haha. Loving it! It sounds and plays leaps and bounds better than the old standard. Mine is classic Sunburst SSS with Pau Ferro board.

I have the same model Player you are reviewing here. The only problem I have had so far is the string tree . I replaced it with a Graph Tech tree and I simply love the thing. I am used to changing pick ups. I am not sure I will need to on this one.

I bought one of the first ones available in Calif.I purchased the Buttercream and I am in love with it now.I have 5 Strats,2 are MIM .The Buttercream sounds brighter ,a little more vintage sounding. Also the body shape is should I say a bit closer to the older strats.PS: I plan on installing the blender electronics as I did on my other MIM Strat.

Hello , Thank You for sharing an informative video on Fender. I recently for a fender Mexican player strat Maple with SSS Config. This is the first time I am experiencing a fender instrument. I am quite delighted to have it and ordered it online from a well-reputed site. I have a quick query. I am a bit concerned about the instrument I got and here is my observation regarding its Volume management. I feel that it sounds low on volume. At volume, 1-3 it's barely audible, 4-5 a little audible between 6-7 it's satisfactory and at 9-10 it gives a considerable output. I am connecting my guitar with amp directly. My amp is Marshall 15CD Series 45 Watts. If I plug my old strat Aria STG series at 3-4 it gives the output what Fender gives at 8-10. The bottom line is if i have to play for practice it has to be between 6-7 minimum or 8-10 while playing along with backing tracks. I wanted to know this is the nature of a fender product/pickups or something else is wrong with my new guitar. I would appreciate if you can please advise.

The player series strat sounds a little brighter - not ice pick- but a little brighter. Thanks fo letting us know that you are using a Priniceton. The difference is slight and noticeable to me. Does it make me want to go out and get one and trade in my Standard? Not exactly. Might I want to get one in the future? Maybe. The colors are really nice (from a looks perspective). Not sure if I know definitively that it justifies the increase in price. For promotional purposes, I would - for a nice touch- I would have thrown a gig back for at least for the first year or something to celebrate it's release.

I now have seen a few comparisons of these 2 Strat models and I immediately find the Player's tone really appeals to my ears. I will have to take a run and try one out to see how it feels for the heck of it. I have an 1996 MIM Strat with an aftermarket Alnico 5 Pickguard whose a neck shape appears similar to what you were describing TK.
Fender is really stepping it up with their stable of different branded guitars that are Made in Mexico and I am pleased with the end products. My 2015 Jackson DK2 Pro (MIM) is a wonderful instrument. It can be a growling beast and then turn crisp & clean in a heartbeat.
Something Gibson should have done with Kramer along time ago instead of neglecting it all together. Maybe seeing what Fender is doing will be a wake up call.
(Btw - I do own a fine 2017 Les Paul Tribute; so I do like the guitars)

I bought a new Strat HSH in Sage Green. There is a lot to like about the new Players Series. However, I was surprised how much thicker the new C shape neck is. It is a lot chunkier than I expected. You might to try one before buying if you prefer a thinner neck.

Good video guys, the player series to me just has more of that round bell like stratty tone at the neck and quack at the 2/4 positions. I have always thought any year especially after 2011 MIM standard I ever played were great value and very solid but the pickups never got me excited. The clean sound is night and day between better on the player series. (for me) Laughed at there's no standby on this amp! Am I missing something? Unless you can kick an amp into and back off standby with your foot then it's easier to unplug from the amp first, before switching guitars.

  • @lecorsaire2283
    @lecorsaire2283 5 років тому

I like the new player series. They feel much better than the Mexican strats of 20 years ago. The finish is not bad but not American quality (sunburst). Crazy that they now retail for what I bought my first American std for in ‘97. Inflation. Unless someone wants a brand new guitar, the better value will always be a used American std. Not as much for the sound since these already sound great, but more for the feel in your hands and usually better wood. Even better if it’s older since aged wood is badass.

Spending more than 600 on a guitar, you figure Fender would be more inclined to include a case or AT LEAST a gig bag. Still buying one of these babies asap, gotta get off my Ibanez Gio and get into the game.

    • @philcig

      1) Tone control actually changes the bridge's tone on the Player Fender, but not on the Standard MIM.
      2) All pickups have more ''chimes'' (resonance) on the new Player Fender.

its not that the Player's pickups are brighter. its that the Standard's big ceramic bar magnets pick up more low/mid end. its a lack of low/midrange in AlNiCo pickups, not an increase in brightness. neither are better than the other. they are simpy different. if you want traditional strat, get the AlNiCo pickups. if you want a modern, fully balanced sound, go for the ceramic.
