I am buying a Mexican strat and believe me Mexico will pay for that the Strat, that much I can tell you, believe me.
No way dude
And it will be the best Strat, the greatest Strat, that you’ve ever seen folks.
Dude I'm crying :D :D :D
And play another brick in the wall by Pink Floyd, while standing on the border.
@@gauravk30 lol
Very nice video, sir. Your delivery is spot-on. Thanks for not talking at the speed of light; thanks for explaining details so thoroughly; thanks for the playing; thanks for delivering the goods so professionally. Your choice of barred chords as well as open chords was *perfect* to show nuances that many other reviewers neglect. (For the record, the new one sounds much brighter...both sound fabulous, just different) I subscribed. You've got a new fan. Please keep this type of video coming. All the best to you & yours.
Wow! Thank you for your kind words! We have more coming; we hope to keep you informed and in love with guitars!
I've bought the Buttercream and I tell you theyre so badass looking. You get that creamy mellow sound with the pickups especially the neck pickup oh wow. Overall a fantastic instrument.
Thanks Eric. I am turning 50 in a few weeks and this year a Buttercream Strat is the gift I need!
I will never give up my Standard strat. New Player series are really wonderful guitars. I’ll take both, thanks.
One of the best channels for gear comparisons there is! Well explained, precise and thorough. Good job!
That Buttercream color is just too damn sexy. I swear I do not need another Strat but this makes me want one!
@@Anthony-ni1mm Yeah, there is something special about that naturally aged color too.
Never ever ever say “I swear I don’t need another Strat”. That’s crazy talk.
@@jeremydankiw5178 Good point. I have the buttercream ordered and on it's way!
my dad bought me that buttercream mexican strat last october
Me too! I promise myself not having any Strat but this Buttercream with maple neck is my favorite one
Very happy you did this video. I was recently looking at my first fender 6-string, and this explains why I couldn't find any the standard on the fender web site! This demo also tells me I need to find a used standard. I appreciate the "traditional" sound of the alnicos, but the ceramics sound so much better for my ears. Great explanation of the differences.
One of the most informative reviews I've seen. Thanx!
I really enjoyed this video, so thank you. I've watched a lot of playing videos of the new Player Series so this was really helpful in regards to the new features broken down. I know you've done a Telecaster comparison not too long ago, but I'd love to hear a comparison of the new Player Series Tele. I'm still torn between a Tele and Stratocaster but I do know my next guitar will be a Fender. Great job!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Gratitude for the well thought out review.🙏🏼
Really very helpful video. Nicely paced and clear. Thanks for this and your guidance is appreciated in Scotland.
You are very welcome! So glad we have someone watching from Scotland!
This is the best review of the player series on you tube. Thank you
Great comparison, thanks for sharing. Totally agree with your pickup analysis 👍
A very informative and helpful comparison. Thanks a lot and all the best
Great review! Beautiful playing, good to see a review where the guy doesn't just shred and play licks as fast as he can, i can actually really hear the guitars in this review, thanks!
Great video in a lot of detailed information. Will be going with the Buttercream Player Strat!
I really liked the warm tone of the old ceramic pickups :(
Chris That was a fantastic review. Probably one of the best in style, content and presentation. I 100% agree with what you said and what I heard from the guitars in my view. I have a Tele and a Strat both are MIM. The player did sound to my ears more tradionally Strat and I had to turn up the volume on the Player demo because of the lower output from the Alnicos. Brilliant music that you played I have saved this video so I can hear your beautiful playing again and again. Thanks again . Tom From England.
Very nicely presented review. Thank you
Man, I love that buttercream! Hope to have one by my next episode.
Thks for the great demo. Could you do a review of the tele as well tks
Awesome review!! Congrats!!
That buttercream finish is fantastic. Been looking for that Yngwie color forever
Got my buttercream yesterday, and I'm loving it!!! Feels so good and the quality of sound is fantastic.
Well done, very informative! Thank you Sir
While everybody is talking about the Strat I'm talking about your presentation about it....right to the point no goof offs like making jokes or talking to your dog or cat....just straight to the point....great job bud....:)
Really an informative video. Thank you!
Bought one with sunburst finish. Love it. Got it in the hss pickup configuration which gives me some options. Bridge pickup alone gives a nice growling rock and roll tone.
Thanks for the video. Its been a while since I popped into your store. I might have to come in soon and try one of these out.
Extremely well done review
Bought that "butter cream" today...OMG!! Such an awesome guitar!!
thanks chris, really helpful video!
Both Strats sounds fine, just a bit different. Recently i bought a Player Strat HSS PF 3TS and i'm very happy, sounds and feels simply good! Thank you for playing not distorted/in overdrive like much others do.
Great review on this guitar. I've just ordered mine in Capri Orange 🍊 left handed. Thanks for sharing this. Your view made me make my mind up to get this guitar. My new guitar will be here the Day before my birthday so really looking forward to getting my new guitar. Stay safe from the UK. 👍👍
I got the Player Series on the same butterscotch color. Its AWESOME, fav guitar on my RIG
Nice one. Love that maple neck with the creamy yellow colour body.
Very good review!! Been curious about these changes. I was thinking of purchasing a mexican strat classic player 60's but i may save a little money going this route and still get very similar specs. Thanks!
The Player is more crisp in the low end, not as deep as the Sandard and plays cleaner overall but I like the way both of them sound. I'll take them both!
You made the Player sound nicer than anyone else, on youtube has. Thanks.
Hi Chris, Excellent Demo👍👍👍.
I have to thank you for your advise on the Elite series, after watching your demo I purchased an Elite, it's absolutely Beautiful to play, nice Rolled edges on the Maple Neck, an Amazing Guitar!
Take care Brother♥️👍.
Melbourne, Australia.
Am I the only one how is alittle sad that theres no red strat with a maple fretboard?
I've got the American Special in that exact style and my God it's beautiful
The gamer I have midnight wine with rosewood fingerboard.
Dude, it's absolutely the Ferrari of guitars. It's really sad that it isn't available... Gonna buy one nonetheless, in black HSS lol
@@donbeissel2965 Cool! Mine is Midnight Wine with maple fretboard. Love the ceramic pickups. Fantastic instrument
Yes, you are the only one
Regarding, youtube video demonstrations of guitars, I think this guy at Alamo does some of the best demos out there. Thank you for these informative productions.
Thanks! More on the way.
These guitars have full size CTS pots. Full foil shielding on the pickguard and full paint shielding in the cavity.
Thanks for taking the time to explain the differences! And the playing sounds fantastic.
I recently bought a shopworn ‘16 MIM Standard Strat from the local GC. Has a beautiful flame maple neck on it & sounds/plays really, really, good. New Players Series is nice too. They’re both great guitars.
Fender player sounded better to me here. Thanks for the detailed descriptions about each one.
Sweet, I think this new Players is much nicer than the outgoing model. I just played a Buttercream at GuitarCenter this afternoon. $649 and they were taking 10% off.
Just bought a buttercream player series in “like new” condition for $500. That’s a steal imo
I just got one mint condition 400
i just ordered a new one today. can’t wait till it comes it
how is it?
@@AntonP99 they are better than they have any right to be. Love my HSS
@@jimiczerwinski1217 how was it?
Awesome video I recently bought a Player series and the amp you have is the same as I am using‼️🎸
Thank You for this review, after watching it I just want one. The colour is fantastic!!!! Flamed maple neck is the winner
I remove the tone controls on Strats and move the volume down to the bottom position. Tone controls interfere with the natural tone of the pickup. As EVH said, the pickup selector is your tone control.
Or one volume for every single pickup.
The stander MIM Stratocaster is a very good sounding guitar, I have two and love them both, I recommend them highly.
Jesse Barrera- you must be talking about another Jesse Barrera, mine are still with me.
I've got one for sale. Three tone burst. Only 21 frets though.
Great video, thank you so much for uploading! Just want to add that I've been playing one of those classic vibe Squier Stratocasters for the past 8 years. Mine was crafted in India (no, not Indonesia) in 2007 according to the serial nr and description on the head stock. When I did a bit of research, I realized that Squiers were also made in India around 1989 - 90, but were discontinued due to poor craftsmanship, but then they returned somewhere around 2006/7 and re-ignited the burnt out flame (it was a short run though).
Now, I've played a lot of MIM Fenders & USA Fenders, and I can honestly say that this whole "if your guitar ain't American built, it's not of high quality" and of course, the condescending "Squiers / MIM Strats are good bang for your buck / good for the price". That's all bullshit. Argue with me all you want, and I know the vast majority will, my made in India Squier outplays most USA Strats I've had the pleasure of playing. Don't get me wrong, USA Fenders simply do have a higher standard of craftsmanship and hardware, but that does not mean that you do not get Squiers and MIM Fenders on the same level of playability (rare, but it happens. It happened to me). I've grown so used to my guitar, that nothing else feels or plays better. It's like it was made for me. Then again, perhaps I just got a really really good one. Who knows?
A truly unbiased review, and much appreciated. As in this video, both played through a clean channel amp. That is the correct way to illustrate the guitar's voices. Thank you again.
Great review! The new Player series definitely sounds more like a Strat than the old Standard one, imo. Oh no, now I want one!
I’m late to the party but thanks for another great video Chris. Hopefully I’ll be getting a Player Strat next month, I just need to what color
Thanks for the view!
Excellent demo.
Thanks!
The Player series sounds great with those Alnico 5’s!
Nice comparison. I've been looking at used strats and am leaning towards the players 🙂
Finally, someone who REALLY compares instruments. gives a lot of information and not only for the purpose of selling.
I've been looking at this guitar since may of 2019.... was planning on getting the polar white version but I'm locked in on the buttercream.......bad news....... thev've gone up to 699.99 from 647.0 ..... not sure why
The new Mex Strats are very good....great comparison video........ nice playing
Sounds great!
Just went out and bought a new Fender Strat Player in the plus top flamed maple pau ferro fretboard and ive been very impressed with it!
great video just got the player hss love it so far plays and sounds great!!
Im loving my new Tidepool Player. Mmmmmm
Love mine too. Unique color
great playing by the way.
I appreciate your videos. I wish I lived closer to San Antonio. If I get down that way again,I will stop in.
The Mexican Standard is much warmer and fuller sounding with chords, but the Player series has much better definition and character with individual notes. In a perfect world, just get both, but if I needed to pick, the Player series because it's just so much snappier like a strat should sound!
For only a few bucks more, I'd go with the Player series just for the bridge an 22 frets. I bought a Standard last year for $599 and its actually good enough to play professional gigs with right out of the box. Even though it says "made in Mexico" on the back of the headstock, that can be a little misleading. The body and neck were made at the American plant and "assembled" in Mexico. The cheaper price is partially because of cheaper labor costs, but mostly because all the parts are mostly low end. I bought this particular guitar with the intent of stripping all the parts off, or "disassembling" all the hardware and replacing everything with high end parts. I installed Fender Eric Johnson signature pickups, an Emerson tone blender which has very smooth pots with a smoother taper than the American strats (if you own any Strat, you should check it out), Fender locking tuners, a radiused Graphteck nut, and graphite bridge saddles. Nothing made in Mexico aboout it. This guitar was "made in Alabama". You may think that by adding all these upgrades. you might as well buy an American made model. Not so. I shopped around and got all the replacement parts for just below $400 which made my total investment just under a thousand bucks. It sounds and plays just as good or even better than an American made Strat costing at least $700 more. If you're looking for higher resale value, go for the American made one. If you just want a great guitar for playing, get a Mexican Strat , strip it down, and replace all the hardware. You'll save a bundle and have a guitar which rivals its American cousin.
I am DEFINITELY gonna be looking into a Player's Series model as my next Strat and/OR Tele, that's for sure!
@@Rockstaralan yeah me too
Awesome review. Thank you. I have a 2014 Standard Plus Top HSS with Floyd Rose. I really like the sound of these new Pups. I wonder if thay have an HSS Floyd Rose version in 2018 Player Series?
No floyd rose player.
Nice playing
Good review. I bought two standard Teles and one deluxe Strat MIM in 2013 and am confident that they are keepers. I repaced the electronics in both Teles and feel I can't sell them now because of the investment. The Strat is box stock but I have no complaints. The new ones are improved except the Tele bridge. But the price has also improved hahaha.
Agreed my old standard was great, but didn't have THAT strat tone compared to my American can't wait to try one of these babies......also think the tone layout is much more usable too
Thanks for the videos, they're all great.
What a gorgeous neck on that buttercream strat
Chris,
Based on your review and many others I pulled the trigger and ordered a Player Series Strat in 3 Tone Sunburst yesterday
Great to hear!
Did you get the guitar yet ? How does it play ? I preordered one but it won't be here until April
@@brianfoster4493 I absolutely love it. The fit and finish are fantastic and it sounds great. I can’t say enough good things about this guitar.
I like it so much I’m thinking of ordering a second one and changing the pickups just to have some different tones. Much cheaper than an American Pro or a Mod Shop instrument
@@allisonholmesmusic97 I've heard great things about it. The only thing I'm worried about is fret sprouting and sharp edges . I guess its kinda rare but is a problem. Was there any issues with yours that you thought could have been better ? Also did you go with maple or pau ferro neck ? I went with pau ferro. I literally preordered and cant wait to get . Even tho I haven't played it
@@brianfoster4493 I didn’t have any issues with fret sprout. I bought one with a maple fingerboard. Nothing against Pau Ferro, I just like the look of maple better
I love everything Fender, Fender through and through, N 1 on my list.
I like my candy apple MIM Standard that I picked up for 400 with a hard case. I think it had a warmer sound than the Player in the side by side. That color though is nice.
I just ordered one of these Player's an hour ago on a whim without looking into them.
I'm WAY more excited now!
I just assumed it was an updated name of the MIM line.
Jose 'Juice' Gonzalez i’m in high school and i’m working a shitty pizza place job. i’m in a band and gig fairly regularly. i just spent every last dime on a buttercream player strat and it will come in in a couple days. i’ve wanted a true fender for quite some time now. too bad i’m broke now😂
I just ordered a SSS in tidepool. It will be here friday! Cant wait!
You should love it. I do with all 3 of my new Players Series Strats.
went for the polar white as I'm a lefty...no sign of it bloody yet..I'm like a child waiting for xmas for the past 2 weeks...its bloody killing me waiting to finally get my hands on my very first strat.
how do you like it? if you received it already.
still waiting :(
eodchop - any word on that Tidepool strat?
Hi! Thanks for the great review. I picked up my LEFT handed Strat at my friend's pawn shop for $200.00. Per review, my Strat is the standard type MIM. How do I know what model number it is and what year it was made? Thanks
I just got the titanium green hsh and im damned sounds fantastic!
I'm going to be reviewing one in Tide Pool that my son just got, on my channel. It's superb! Nice review!
Nice vid! from MTW Culver City CA USA......some cool updates ...yeah! thumbs up from MTW
I prefer the ceramic pickups. Fuller sounding.
LOL I was literally just going to post this until I glanced down at your post! They're much more fuller sounding with snappy attack. Way better than the weak tinny alnico Fender p-ups.
The Mexico Telecaster Standards with ceramic pickups sound especially good for the money IMHO. Possibly the best value top-named-brand guitar in the world.
More people pick those ceramic pickups(vs alnico) as their favorite in the blind test videos here on UA-cam. That says a lot.
Thank you a lot I am looking for my first guitar and I was looking at mim fender. I can really hear the difference in pushing the amp! But I’m not sure it will really matter being my first guitar to pay 150$ dollars more then the standard series on sale?
William, the Standard is a great guitar but the Player Series with the improvements are certainly worth the extra $150 and would serve you well over time. - Chris McKee
The vibrato bridge on the Standard is far inferior to the two-point on the Player. If you don't want to be getting pissed off regularly by tuning problems get the Player.
John Frusciante and Jonh Mayer always use 6-bolt stratocasters. Why will it be?
You sure can hear that its more mellow but still has the. Clarity over the old one.
I bought a buttercream sss model a couple of weeks ago and the trem cavity IS painted inside. Strange.
For my uses, I find the new Players Series to be just a cut above the old Standard ones. I like the lower output and just how clear and well defined each note sounds with the alnico v pickups. I'm going to get one for sure, just not sure when.
Did you get one yet bro? I’ve had one for about 6 months now and love it
@@MadGunny I actually got one 2 years ago today lol.
Hey any chance the little intro being played at the start its a tab available anywhere?
Not yet. Soon hopefully! Stay tuned!
Thank you bro
Mine arrived 4/20/20 at 4:20 MST. Silver SSS with Pau Ferro. I went over every detail of it in bright sunlight and can't find a single flaw. Factory set-up is decent, but will get a bit of a tweak. Neck feels slimmer and frets seem slightly taller and thinner than other Strats I've played. Tonal range is ridiculous: From piercingly bright to thick, plunky warmth. Hardware and switches/controls are quite nice. This is the first guitar that I've owned with Pau Ferro. It's quite beautiful, but seems very dry out of the box. I think some treatment with Tung or orange oil will be in order at the first string change. I paid the going rate of $699.00 US with free shipping and am quite pleased with the quality for the money.
The amp sounds really good. The new Player series guitar sounds better, in my opinion.
I can't find flame on player in the fender.com site !
I like the player series more than the standard. The player series has more bright and clean sounds; I am not a fan of tremolo system, but.. This player series might change my mind🎸🎸🎸🎸
Trem is way better
I bought one in the Buttercream finish last November. Last week I put vintage-style (cream?) plastic parts and a Mint/Black/Mint pickguard on it. That colour combo works really well!
Got hold of a 2012 mim strat. Case gueen like new not a scratch on it with zero fret wear, doubt it had ever been played due to it having a cracked nut. I bought it for an embarrassing low price from another player that found it at an estate sale. The sellers at the estate didn't want much for it so he bought it just to save it and never played it favoring his Ultra instead. Midnight wine with maple fretboard. It's very great. Love the gold outlined black transition logo. Ceramic pickups in it are fantastic and don't see any reason to change them. Cheers!
my friend has a Mexican strat he let me play it a couple time and its a great guitar
I’ve had 2 Standard MIM Strats and both were very good guitars. I have a brand new Player series Strat sitting here that wasn’t setup right. I can’t set it up. Something isn’t right. I’m about to take it to a local luthier to see what’s what before I take it back to Guitar Center. Very disappointing.
