I prefer the tone of the Player Teles. The Professional sounds too modern, the Player sounds like a Tele should.

Just tried out a Players Tele and Strat last night. They play and sound great. It’s really a no brainer for most people.
I’m a guy who used to scoff at anything that wasn’t American. I’ve been playing for over 40 years and was dead wrong.

The new Player Series surely offers a lot for the buck...
I think this is exactly why Fender doesn’t have the same financial troubles than Gibson is facing.
They consolidate their product line, models with different names now to make it either to identify, but with similar vintage appearances and tones (such ‘52 butterscotch Tele) but with modern comfort...
If only Gibson would do the same and release some ‘56 Goldtop P90, ‘58 cherryburst, ‘59 lemonburst Les Pauls that aren’t $5,000...
PS: being out of tune is killing me...

David Morisset the problem is not to have high end models, but entry price models people want. You don’t sell a thousand guitars a day when the minimum price tag is over 3 grands.

The Player series are alder bodied and the Am Pro (butterscotch) is ash. That's why you're not seeing as much wood grain on the Player.

I'm going to get a Player Series Strat SSS for my first guitar. I'm after clean tones and funk rhythm chords. I've listened to a couple comparisons of the the new Player Strats vs. the old Standard Strats, and the new alnico pickups seem to sound so much more crystal clear than the old ceramics. Just the sound I'm after!

Player series is not Begginer guitars. Squier is begginer guitar. Player series is intermediate guitar . Begginer guitars cost 100 to 400 dollars .Intermediate guitars plays proffesional guitarist or intermediate players.Intermediate guitars cost 400 to 1000 dollars.

Worth also noting that the Am Pro has bigger fret wire - which makes them feel VERY nice. The slightly different neck shape/profile on the Am Pro is very comfortable & familiar. I also found that the Am Pro tone was slightly (but notable) warmer, richer sounding - it had a much more balance tone between the bass & treble strings.

Listening with head phones the tone of both guitars was very similar, but the was a clear difference in note definition. The classic player sounded less distinct. How silar did the necks feel in terms of finish and radius?

Very nice comparison! I was/am considering getting the American Special Tele- but I loved what was demonstrated here- especially for the price- the Player was really awesome I thought. I'm not a professional by any stretch (and not rich either) so the Player is something to seriously consider. How do they hold up with high gain levels? I believe the Tex Specials on the Am Special can handle it pretty well- what are your thoughts on the Player Tele? Thank you!

The Player definitely acquitted itself well. I think guitarists looking to wring a very specific, traditional Tele sound out of either guitar might find the Professional slightly more capable of doing that (due to the three-barrel bridge), but anyone who digs a Tele will do well with a Player.

Personally, I think the gigantic price difference doesn't compensate for the tiny little overall quality. One more thing. I plan on buying a new tele and keeping it, not re selling it. Having these reasons in mind, I'd go for a made in Mexico player series over a US of A Professional series any day.

Just goes to show you, if a person is low on the funds, there are some great options in the Fender lineup. Now that I’m old and have some disposable income, I tend to be a Made in USA guy. I had my share of imports throughout my musical journey. Now I’m just enjoying having my kids out of college and spending some cash on myself. 😜

There is not $800. worth of difference between the two. If money is no object then go for the prettier one but if one needs a good working guitar and the price is important then the lower price one will do just fine.

The pickups in that american sounded way clearer and better to me. It's a pretty big difference even over youtube imo. I usually don't like the stock pickups in whatever they were using in the 2000-2010 american standard teles, but I liked the v mods in the deluxe. One other person bentioned the baja, which is one of my fav guitars I've played. I would get one, but I already have an american tele with duncan antiquities and can't justify the baja since they're so similar.
