    One big tip I've learned, let it go extra low for the first part of a cook. Like 200 degrees or less. That really helps build up that smoke flavor some feel is lacking with pellet smokers. Moisture in the form of water pans and spritz bottles works well for that too. My 2 cents.

      there is a big discussion about that in reddit right now and I most say people are kind of 50/50 in the argument, while it makes sense it is something I will be trying soon! 😀😀 Keep tuned!

    Brother, at some point you should make a video in how to deep clean and maintain the smoker. Like, what you use, how you do it…not just the sawdust.
    By the way, my Recteq’s temp is extremely steady…at worse, it’ll fluctuate 10-20 degrees either side. The controller is very good.

    • @SaltyTales
      @SaltyTales  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, that's a normal temp fluctuation for most pellet grills out there and as I said there is nothing wrong with it.! 😀

    Was just thinking of buying a new grill and was thinking of switching to pellet or offset smoker if you can compare or suggest brands ( affordable 😅) would be great

    • @SaltyTales
      @SaltyTales  2 роки тому +1

      It all depends on what you want... Offset smokers are super expensive right now with the materials situation and the pellet grills are awesome but you want wifi in it? or bigger hopper? or maybe a different size? price wise I will go with the z-grill, it is just like a traeger but cheaper,works great, cook awesome and you wont have to sell a leg you buy it! Many options out there and all of them very good.

    • @MGC819
      @MGC819 2 роки тому +1

      Z-grill is almost as expensive as traeger here in Toronto 😅 so I might as well go all the way

    I agree that pellet grills don't give the Super-Smoky flavors so I usually use of of those metal box thingies with better smoking wood chunks (just set it on the grill in the back corner opposite the chimney) for the first couple of hours. Seems to amp-up the flavor.
    Now - can you please throw a bison brisket on that Z-Grill?! 😁😁😁

      I do like it a lot but the experience I had with it was mostly bad. My friend Emil purchased one the first time it came to the market and it was a mess. I know they got way better since but I haven't tried any other one but that one and as I said the experience was bad. I'll keep you posted if I get my hands on a more recent version of it.

    • @SaltyTales

      Zgrills are very good, well priced and great in general. They are modeled after the traeger grills which are the leaders in the industry. I definitely recommend it!

    One thing I learned… NEVER put tour steak on a pellet grill until the unit is at steady state, with clean blue smoke. The initial white smoke will DESTROY your steak, every single time.

    • @SaltyTales
      @SaltyTales  2 роки тому

      That is sure a great recommendation! And the white/blue smoke argument is very valid too but as explained in this video you also need a bit of that white smoke to bring up the flavors… it’s like a nice balance great pitmasters get to make with stick burners and there is nothing better! 😀

  • @cliffvictoria3863

    Pellet grills always have the issues with lack of smoke. No smoke ring. Less flavor than wood. I will keep using my wood smoker over a pellet grill. If you are going to use a pellet grill, add a smoke chamber to get some wood smoke into the cook. EDIT: C'mon, Ninja. You know this.

    • @braziliangator
      @braziliangator 2 роки тому

      Agree with lower smoke quality than an offset but you can still get a nice smoke ring, no issues with that. Try starting with a cooler piece of meat.

    1. Have money to buy one
    2. Have the ability to start one and read how to take care of a pellet grill instructions
    3. Have some type of thermometer to measure the exact cooking temperatures
    4. Be smart enough to know which flavor of wood you like with your food.
    5. Be able to tell time
    6. Be able to afford meat
    7. The ability to improve on your cooking if you don't do so well.
