In my very upper-middle suburban neighborhood, most of the stay at home moms are alcoholics, dealing with abusive husbands, are taking their kid's ADHD meds or are cheating. I would hate that life.

@@apeiceofmoldedclay Yeah I am in the south. These women show up to sporting and school events with their Stanley cups full of vodka, hats, sunglasses and long sleeves to cover their bruises, stumble around giggling like they are in middle school and flirt/sleep with everyone under the sun. They are the ones who speak the loudest and create drama when there is none simply to get attention. I have been on school boards and volunteered my time enough over the years to be able to call this out with confidence - but not that it's a great thing. I think it's sad. It may not be in your neck of the woods but I know it's out there more than you think. These women would have been better off getting jobs or hobbies outside of the home so that they could have more confidence and pride in themselves. This is what our kids would be better off seeing. Not the disaster in their homes they I know they secretly and shamefully carry.

I wanted to raise my own children myself so I was a SAHM for about 10 years. I was also in school during that time and now I work remotely. It’s nice because I’m still home when my kids get off the bus from school but I also get the mental stimulation that I need and can contribute to the household finances. My husband is an amazing trustworthy man that has always provided for me and our children. He has never had a problem with me being a SAHM and is my biggest supporter. ❤ I think that every household needs different things and there is no one size fits all when it comes to running a household and raising a family. At the end of the day you do what you need to do.

I loved what I did, I was good at it and made as much as my husband. (Well over 100k 20 years ago). Never would did I think i would be a stay at home mom. After having kids, I changed my mind. It has made our lives so much better. We could have a bigger house, better vacations, etc, but our family life and family harmony is priceless. Many days I miss it, but not one I regret it.

I don't regret my decision to stay home and I'm grateful my husband made it possible. For those that have any type of income/ stipend or part time jobs, I'd suggest putting some money in an IRA so that your retirement doesn't suffer from sacrificing for your family.

I started working at a relatively young age so now that I’m in my very late 30’s and have small children, I am a SAHM and prefer it this way. No one will raise and care for my children and family like I can. After all, children only get to be kids for a short time and it goes by quickly, it’s invaluable. A career is always available to pursue whenever you decide is best. Given the right spouse that can provide stability for the family I believe SAHM is best at least when your kids are young.

A woman's eggs begin their decline at the age of 30 and serious risks begin at 35 such as c sections, autism & down syndrome in your children, mortality for the mothers, losing the ability have children etc. IVF treatments are expensive like 20k-30k usd and freezing your eggs isn't guaranteed to work either while this option is also expensive. Women can have a healthy pregnancy after 35 but they're rolling the dice and gambling for that chance, its still very risky. So really a woman's biology says their 20's is the best time for women to have children, they should be done with school by the age of 21 leaving them time to start families.

If a woman can stay at home, the value that brings to the family is immeasurable. Nobody can love and care for your family like you can.
No nanny, no grandparent, nobody can bring the magic a mother can.
Money comes and goes, but childhood memories and a happy home last forever.
A strong man takes pride in the fact he can provide for his family and have his wife care for everyone.

Money is not everything in life and bringing up children is priceless you can never get back that time with your kids once it’s gone.

I prefer to be a stay at home mom.... I have nothing against working and every woman needs to decide for herself.... but after my husband and I sat down and crunched the numbers... we took into consideration all the expenses accrued if I worked and it would basically absorb most of my income. (Daycare, gas for commuting, career expenses, eating out etc.). By choosing to be a stay at home mom I save our family thousands of dollars per year. Plus raising kids is a very important job... they're the next generation that will be running world. An older person once told me, "the more you put into something in the beginning, the more you get out later." Kids are worth the investment of time. Once my kids are older I probably will seek out a part time job / side hustle, but until then, I prefer to be the keeper of the home :) to each his own 😊

Better have a good prenup for if the husband leaves for someone younger. Plus if you don't work outside of the house no Social Security so have alimony prepared in prenup. More than half of marriages fail, never depend on a man. If you stay at home you should get at least a nanny's salary.

I would say to each and their own. Nothing wrong with being a devoted housewife and mother. But just know that not every woman desires to be a mom or a housewife, just the same as not every man desires to be a father or a husband. They are nice things to be (if it's what a person desires). But definitely not a lifestyle that can be "forced" on anyone.
I knew from a very young age that having children wasn't something I was interested in. And I'm still not. -Especially with how expensive things have become in this day and age. And I take a lot more pride in having a degree in science and a full-time career in it. As a clinical laboratory technician, my days are devoted to managing test results for people with potentially fatal diseases and illnesses before they become a problem. And for me, that's (extremely rewarding). I also take a lot of pride in earning my own money, and being able to pay my own bills simply because I'm a grown adult, and that's what I'm supposed to do. I spent enough time being bossed around and told what to do as a child. I didn't grow up to become an adult so that could continue for me (Just because of my gender). I also like being able to go fishing whenever I'd like to, hang out with friends or Go for a leisurely drive without being railed for why I'm "not at home like I should be..."
Not only that, but being at home all day (everyday) eventually becomes psychologically damaging enough that many women end up with depression.
Also, a lot of people don't realize how risky it is to have children before securing a solid career and a stable future first. What happens if the husband passes away or just decides to dip on the relationship one day? You've got no work history or an education- nothing valuable on paper to present to any employers. So you're stuck with no other options but to bag groceries at a local stop & shop or scooping french fries and flipping burgers at a local McDonald's. It's not a good situation for the kid when their dinner diet consists of nothing but a Big Mac and chicken nuggets every night, and used clothing from a thrift store because Mom's minimum wage paycheck isn't enough to buy decent food from a grocery store and new clothing (that's never been worn by anyone).
Society has tricked many people into thinking they have to follow in the whole tradition of marriage and having children as if it's some kind of "fashion trend." Yet bringing a child into the home isn't like bringing home a dog. It's a very serious decision (and for obvious reasons).

If you don’t have kids yeah both people can work no problem. But to me no amount of money can will take importance on the livelihood of my children. Modern Feminists always say women should have a choice but when it comes to being a stay at home wife/mom they'll bully and drag women for wanting that which leads me to believe they really aren't for women's rights as they claim. Traditional women are in demand in the U.S. so much so that men are flying overseas to countries such as Thailand, Philippines, Columbia etc. to find and wife them since traditional family oriented women are more common in those countries. I’ve done both and prefer a combination. Part time work that is flexible for me to still raise my kids and be available for school stuff, when they are sick, or just want to spend the day with me. Being a 100% SAMH was great but I lost my identity and sense of independence. 100% work made me feel like I wasn’t doing enough for my kids. Fortunately I’m blessed to have the option but understand that isn’t realistic for everyone.

You can pursue business when your children are grown but you'll still have to put in those long hours which can hurt your marriage. To spend less hours in your business means giving up equity to partners to run the business which means less equity for you and maybe less earnings also and there's always the risk of getting screwed by your business partners. Nobody can have it all, there are pros and cons and give and take to everything. People have to choose what's more important to them.

You can switch to every kind if you get the on-the-job training or special certificate. No one thinks bad of you for switching it up. I have a cousin who's done neo natal to Hospice to Surgical and no one's blinked an eye. Whatever job y'all do please young people, buy yourselves IRA's. I'm getting me some as my dear hubby works his last. I don't even care about the tax break anymore. I'm just piling up extra that no one can get from ya in lawsuits or so I've been told. Even while pregnant you can plan to go back to work at a certain point PP but once you have your baby you can change your mind completely. Also for the women saying they’d rather be independent, that’s all well and good, but having a man that truly has your back and you KNOW he has your back and supports you, you will not WANT to be independent, you feel safe knowing you can rely on him. I'm glad you're taking the time to acknowledge the risks involved in having a family first instead of going to college and being financially secure (prior to having children). Because you never know if the man of the relationship is going to pass away or dip completely. And then what? You've got no college education, no resume with any work history on it. So the only jobs available to you are bagging groceries at stop & shop or ringing people up on a cash register at Walmart. A paycheck from scooping french fries and flipping burgers at McDonald's isn't going to be enough to cover the cost of decent food from a grocery store or clothing that isn't used from a thrift store. And a diet of french fries and chicken fingers every night (because the minimum wage paycheck isn't enough to get decent food) certainly doesn't make for a healthy situation for any child. For single mothers, the struggle is all too real. Yet everybody acts like having children is some sort of "fashion trend" to follow and it's basically the same as buying a dog. And so the assumption is all women should just forget about being educated and having a career, and just jump right to motherhood without having secured a stable future first...
Yes, a very potential (disaster) indeed!
