Sounds like he doesn’t want her to leave work so if/when they divorce, she cannot claim she was dependent on him. Guarantee you that is the reason.
And that would be a very good reason. First things first, he should have NEVER married her. She wants an easy ride and married into it. She wants to be a "stay at home mom". Okay. But I guarantee that with his income, she will be spending HIS money on things like maids or housekeepers and having food delivered while she sits on the couch watching talk shows and whines about how her life just isn't complete.

I just read an article the other day about how their tribunal court (or whatever they have up there) ruled that an *unmarried* man had to essentially pay his ex _girlfriend_ alimony, because regarddless that they didn't live together, they didn't own a house together, etc., the council still decided they were married because they were acting as a married couple - paperwork or not. Yeah...

It could possibly be that since he grew up with a mother who worked in the workforce, his view of the mother's role is to do the same. Maybe he feels he'd be taken advantage of if he's the only one earning money. And that could be trust issues on his part or a skewed view of healthy roles in marriage and parenthood. Again, no way to be certain or say what is probable in this case. Many possibilities.
Growing up my Dads friend made over $300k back then it was a lot of money. His wife worked full time at a restaurant because she wanted to have her own income. Their daughter went to private school, and at 17 got a job in fast food. The father passed away when the daughter was in her 20’s she started partying and flying to night clubs on helicopters with the money she inherited. The mom still worked as a waitress because she liked people. They lived in a multi-million dollar home. The mom was always level headed. The daughter squandered her inheritance but found rich guys to bail her out. Now she’s 50 and no guys are coming to the rescue and she is completely broke. Humility goes a long way

As a stay at home mom I would like to thank you Dave I really didn't like the idea of staying home with my kids when my husband suggested it I always worked and my parents always made it clear never to dependent on another person but now I can't thank him enough I'm so greatful of having a hardworking husband who not only works for the family but also makes time to play and actually be a part of our lives not just a workaholic!

Some people change their minds after the child is born. That happened with my asst boss. She never came back to the company but originally had every plan to do so.
I think she probably didnt and now that she's had a child she doesn't want to miss out. When I had my first child I didnt work for 6 months. Only reason I went back is because I was a single mom. I really hated putting my daughter in daycare and missed time with her

@@ElmoTinker im great now. At that time I moved to FL and was staying with family until I got a job. Moved in with a roommate for a year and then got my own place. Wanted more money so I moved back home to NJ. I co owned a home with family in NJ so I moved back into the house and got a job with the PO 7 months after moving back. Its been almost 7 years, have a second child but making enough to live comfortably and for my kids to have savings

I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and was raised by a single father that worked full time (he had no choice) and was also a college student when I was in high school. I am one year older than my sister and had to take care of her all the time. I saw what other kids had with having a mother that stayed home (the norm back then) and was acutely aware of how different my situation was and how much more responsibilities and chores I had than my friends. For these reasons, I made sure I was in a stable MARRIAGE first and I stayed home to raise our son. Sometimes it pinched a bit living on one salary, but it made my husband into a great businessman and our son grew up with a mother at home. I am a widow now, but I had 40 great years with my husband and he was very responsible and a hard worker. Because of that, he left me not owing a penny to anyone and in good financial shape. I am thankful to him and especially to God.
How sad! My husband has never made more than 40-ish- thousand a year, we had nine kids, but he ALWAYS allowed me to stay home.
Now he makes even less. My teens and I have been able to provide childcare for another family, so I am now bringing in some income, but that was an opportunity that came to ME. We did not pursue it.
We've lived paycheck to paycheck, but have no debt.
I am now using the money for home repairs, and just started a bank account for saving for the future.
I'm going to have to scramble, but I do NOT regret staying home.
(And, yes- it was hard making ends meet, but my being home was important to us.)

I feel like this is something they should have discussed BEFORE getting married and having children.
it's not always cut & dry like that. I never thought i'd want to be a stay at home mom...until I had my child. even being pregnant, I had career goals & aspirations etc. Baby joins us & bam...all out the window. I would LOVE to be a SAHM with all my heart & would have TOTALLY planned differently to set that up had i known i'd feel this way.

This caller's husband sounds very calculated. He was with her for 7 years prior to marrying her and still wants her to work. I am of the belief that he is concerned that in the event of a divorce he would be required to pay her spousal support/alimony which is usually calculated based on income; and it would be a significant amount given his. She would be a dependent if she does not continue to work so in order to mitigate that risk he is insisting she continues to remain employed. Smart man !!!

And don't worry about the children needing someone at home because the guy is probably a millionaire which means he can afford taking a few weeks to probably years off to spend time with his kids and the woman is not poor so she can afford it too. The problem is not financial. I have seen this before. Some men are like “if I have to work, so do you”. I dint care which one works and which one stays home, but if there is ANY way one parent can stay home, and raise your children. They should and they must. No ONE will love or care for your children the way a parent will.
As a man, I don't understand this whatsoever. I would gladly work enough so that my wife, whom I love, can stay home and raise our children. If I don't make enough and am struggling to make ends meet, then that's a different story.

As a married man here is what I would do if I had his income. I would let her stay at home with the kids and 5 years from now I would retire and be at home with her and the kids. With my standard of living I could easily reach FIRE in 5 years making $975,000 a year and that's after taxes.

Spot on. The costs are so much more than financial. I am grateful that my wife wanted to raise our children (even though I made about $920k less than this guy) when raising our little ones. It meant that we didn't get new furniture or travel to Europe etc. but the benefits of knowing we raised them and the relationship we have with them is beyond anything money could ever buy.

This makes no sense and there is stuff she didn’t say. Either he is insane or she is omitting something major. For example my sister in-law had the same problem with her husband. He makes 250k and she was complaining about him making her keep her job. When I asked he told me this.
She has a house maid that comes and cleans the house 3 times per week.
And she has a nanny that takes care of the baby. When I come home from work I help with the baby so what is she doing during the time am working. The maid cleans the house and the nanny leaves after I come home from work.
There's definitely a lot being left out on this call. As much as I love this show it always annoys me when people call in and presented an obviously biased picture

Casey J she tried to get my wife to help her with the baby when the husband stoped paying for the nanny and later on went back to her actuary job to pay for the nanny. They come from a very rich family and her mom never took care of them. It was the nannies that raised them.

I stayed home with my kids. And my husband's friend said that I was dragging him down and members of his family said the same. But my husband said he wanted me to stay home and raise our children. And I believed our children deserve to be raised by me not a babysitter.

I had a baby sitter for five hours of the day, but my mom and or dad was with me the rest of the day, and she was like a grand mother to me and I'm still friends with her grandkids. But my parents worked together, and both really loved their jobs. Babysitters can work for some, but in this case there's seriously no need for the mom to work! Why hire a babysitter when you can easily afford to have the mother stay home?
Shoot, my wife stays home and I make about $80K. (EDIT for the cheap seats, this is what I prefer - she's raising the kiddos and we live in a low cost of living area, we do really well with $80.)

@@oshkoshbegone I am the school. I am a certified teacher, so my children will have the luxury of having a private teacher/ tutor. I also garden and preserve food.
@@SarahR2D2 I'm not saying it's bad. But once they are in school there really isn't much for a stay at home mom to do. In your case you are homeschooling which is completely different. I honestly don't really think gardening and preserving food is anything other than a hobby. But I could be wrong.

Stop feeling guilty and go to work and shut your mouth. My mom work for 43 years and still working. She said she never felt guilty leaving her kids to go to work. Not that she doesnt love her kids, her kids mean the world to her and her kids turned out to be just fine. Be professional and stop complaining. The less you complain, the more you work hard. The more productive you will be in your work and family life.
@@secrets.295 This isn't about complaining about working. It is about the no win guilt that comes either way. If we work then we are guilted that we don't spend enough time with our kids, that we chose a job over our kids, that the babysitter and not us raised our kids, etc. However if we don't work we are called lazy and entitled women that sit at home all day, we are stereotyped as not having a life, looked down upon because we don't have a place in the secular world, talked about because we aren't supporting our family (especially if the family is making sacrifices so the mom can stay at home), etc. We are guilted and stereotyped either way. This isn't about working vs not working, it's about the fact that everyone should support whatever the mother's choice is, to work outside the home or be a stay at home mom, because they are equally important.
You don't need to fix it, just live the way you want to and stop griping about how people you don't even know (maybe) perceive you.
I love what Ramsey says about motherhood.

You're honestly not dealing with the same person spiritually, mentally, and biologically. Marriages are made because you trust the person they are. prenups/ doubts are created for the different person they'll become. If that makes sense

@@simeoda no because she never explained the full story. there's a reason to it. maybe his income isn't always going to be 950k. maybe if something happens to him and the wife has been out of work for a while, he doesn't want their lifestyle to be affected down the line. if they both can hire a nanny for 50K, they can save a lot for their future. it should be discussed internally and not like this. she seems like she's going behind his back for someone to take her side. i wouldn't be surprised if they end up breaking up lol

I think he doesnt see the value to keep her at home, since he can get any meal he wants at any time, most likely he doesnt want to eat pasta every day or frozen meals. Alos he can pay someone to wash his cloths, So really he doesnt see the benefit on her been at howuse wife because he can afford everything.

This is the kind subject that Ramsey can only comment but can’t make a call. It’s up to every couple. And the person we need to convince is not even in the room. This lady should have a good conversation with her husband. There are tones of reasons he may not welling to have a stay at home wife, and it’s not necessarily he is planning for a divorce.
I see alimony and child support in their future.
The man sees it to that’s why he wants her to have her own source of income so she wouldn’t tell the judge she doesn’t have income and make the man pay spousal support or more than needed
He would pay child support and spousal maintenance regardless of her income.

Sounds like maybe he doesn't trust her 100% and that he feels she wants him for the money. That would explain why they waited so long to get married. My wife took off work until our kids were old enough to go to school. I dont see an issue with it since he makes so much money compared to her.

Good on Dave for standing up for stay-at-home moms! I have worked in childcare and it is heartbreaking to see these kids who have two parents working full-time jobs and would rather pay for daycare than stay at home to raise them.

But the silver lining is that most of these terrible comments are from bitter men, who statically don't make nearly enough money for them to be concerned with this decision. I love some old fashioned values, but I think marriage should be a team effort. My generation doesn’t think like yours. My generation barely know what morals are honestly because they were never taught that it was even a factor they should take into account. This creates people who are entitled, lazy, and opportunistic at the expense of others. I just don’t understand why the older generations scrutinize us for how reality sadly is now when y’all are the ones that raised them to be this way. I’m all for accountability, but let’s be honest, how a child is raised greatly impacts how they turn out. Environmental factors do play a role for sure.

Oh man, my coworker and his wife made a deal back when they had their kids that she would go back to work after a certain period of time when their sons were old enough. Well, she never went to back to work and you can hear the resentment in his voice whenever he talks about it because she didn't hold up her end of the deal.

The wife works 40 hours a week looking after the kids, saving the money otherwise used to pay for child care (which could easily add up to the 10s of thousands depending on number of kids). Then when each couple has finished their 40 hours of work, they split household and childcare duties. The children get the best care possible, neither parent is overstressed, win-win for everyone.
But they live in Canada. His after tax income is 100k.
