I looked up cable cast on for a sleeve in progress and did not find it helpful. Found this one and was so surprised that it was so easy to follow with a very clear tutorial! I am an experienced knitter but never had to do this cast on. Thank you and I will certainly go to this site for more info and patterns.

Thanks. I loved the discussion of twisting v. not twisting. I was thinking as I watched, "hmm. I twist. Is that wrong?" I know I'm the boss of my knitting, but good to know that it doesn't really matter.

this is the way I cast on at the beginning of a row BUT when I then go to knit across that row I get a hole where I went into that first loop what am I doing wrong ?

This is a common problem, so you're not alone! One technique you can try is you can cast-on an extra stitch, and then when you go to knit across the row, when you get to the area where there is a hole/looseness, you can work a k2tog over it and that can help tighten things up (and since you cast-on an extra stitch, you have a stitch to loose). Give that a try next time - if it doesn't work as well as you like, send me an email and I'll have some other suggestions you can try :)
