@Kinghouse BD I'd respectfully suggest a diagnosis of selective listening aka hearing what one wants to hear. That's not what Andy said nor implied, at least to my unfiltered comprehension. Perhaps listen to his comment again? And as a child of the 1960's still modelling today, in my observation from living both eras he is right. Sure, a relative handful of keener teens and occasionally even kids still participate -in my observation only if and when a nostalgic a parent buys for them in a usually more often than not forlorn attempt to distract attention away from the smartphone, tablet, PC, Xbox/PS or MAC/PC and generate/motivate interest they remember fondly. Like aeromodelling and model railway in the age of fast food, not all work done ready to go out of the box applause generating kudos skill included simply doesn't fly *generally* with the instant gratification generation. One from my gen might think it a shame they are missing out on a great hobby unaware of that fact. Just how it is. As L.P. Hartley wrote in "The Go-Between", "The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there".
wow! that was phenomenal! bravo! how long did it take you to type up such a masterpiece of literature?(not being sarcastic) my first comment was kind of a joke.
Love the videos and love your obvious enthusiasm for the hobby. Wish I lived close to your shop. I'd love to come spend my money there. Keep doing the great videos.
Andy, you continue to provide some of the best reviews and builds available! I look forward to all the productions on your channel. That is one sweet armor kit!
Good review. Fantastic looking kit with all sorts of options for now and in the future. Buy the kit and as funds become available, buy the accessories.
For those who do not know: Meng is a brand from China-Shenzheng. It is a pretty new brand. It started with some modern tanks with very good references and details, and always gives transparent parts and PE parts with their kits. After it gained fame in China, it started to publish some popular WW2 and WW1 tanks, as well as some civil vehicles. Almost all their tanks have movable suspensions (although some requires to buy them seperately), and there are several tanks have interior parts supplies. It has cooperation with AK. Meng is very similar to Takom in many ways: the vehicles they have produced, the quality of the product, and the aftermarket supplies for their kits. (Someone said that there was a technical employee of Meng transferred to Takom and brought some info.) In Mainland China, these two brands are sawed as rivals. Many Takom kits are hard to find in China, plus Meng is a Chinese brand, many people purchase Meng in China - In fact, For most chinese, if they want to buy a specific vehicle, Meng would always be the first choice (because the brand is pretty new, so as their kits), followed by Trumpets (another Chinese brand. Worse quality, but much cheaper, and have published many different vehicles that other brands may not have), Tamiya (great kits, fits together very well, easy to build, fair price) and Dragon (somehow there exist some people who buy dragon kits not for building them, but for saving them like a stock. The prices of any good Dragon kit keep rising in China.)
I just picked up this kit today. I'm thinking about adding the Zimmerit and the aftermarket tracks. at 1118 parts, It's is the highest parts count kit I've ever built!
Awesome Video like always! Just ordered mine! Just Wondering if there is a chance to tell which kind of Zimmerit I need for which version. Its pretty hard to tell on the pictures.I think it would be nice if they would write it under the Painting guide for every Version which version of Zimmerit is needed. My plan is to build the variant nr 3 but I am not sure if they used the normal horizontal zimmerit pattern or just the squares. Maybe you can help me out. Rdgs Toby
We already have some beautiful Dragon Model Panthers (some with molded on Zimmerit) and others from ICM, Tamiya and Zvezda. Meng really should have included a Zimmerit decal set as these are not cheap kits and there is a lot of competition. I disagree and do not like this recent marketing ploy by Meng where all the parts you want have to be bought seperately and add up to a huge amount. Just sell one kit with an interior etc and one without like Miniart do. It is still a nice looking kit though.
Meng including a set of zimmerit decals in the box would just raise the price for the by what you'd otherwise pay for the zimmerit, if you're doing your own zimmerit or using another type of zimmerit that would just be a waste of money, same goes for the workable tracks/suspension. As for other Panther kits, this is the first Ausf A kit in 15 years and the 4th Ausf A kit in 35th scale over all, the other options you have is the terrible Tamiya kit from the 60s, the mediocre Italeri kit from the 90s or the expensive Dragon kit which is nogh impossible to find in shops on top of that this kit can be found for as little as €22 if you shop around and for that you gain a ton of extra parts including the parts to do a Panzerbefehlswagen Panther Ausf A (which is a first in 35th scale as far as I know)
Adding zimmerit on the tank would limit the amount of options that you can build. Kit has 7 options for painting and with zimmerit it would 2 or even 1. Adding zimmerit as a decal sheet would only raise the price. Kit still has a lot of things inside box. Metal barrel and sideskirts, photo etch parts and not rubber tracks. The only thing that dragon has is photo etch with the same price. Dragon can only hide from meng.
Andy, thanks for sharing this new kit. I saw in your other video about the Zimmerit decals. Curious, when you paint on the primer, and the different layers of paint for camo, will the Zimmerit still be visible and still look good?
I'm building this kit as I'm writing this (in fact I was building when this video came up) and I'm not far from finishing mine and here's my observations: The kit is superb in quality! Nothing to comment about at all! The track is a pain in the ... to build with all the guide horns, and the metal pins (I'm building working tracks and suspension too) is really slow to assemble but it works really well and certainly looks the part. I've found a handful of errors in the instructions and this is just Meng being lazy because they would've been spotted if someone had built it in QA to verify the instructions. The zimmerit decals are a huge letdown simply because they are way too thin to look like the real deal and you're going to have to be careful with primer and paint because if you're using a wee bit too much then all the pattern is gone. I'm using as thinned paint as possible and I hope it comes out ok, but I regret using this zimmerit. Many people have reported that the zimmerit decals doesn't stick properly. I cleaned the parts with iso and a light sanding and I had very little problem, but I cut all decals where they were bent around a shape just to minimise lift. Watch out with Tamiya cement because it totally dissolves the zimmerit! We who ordered first batch got a metal barrel which is a nice detail, and I recommend getting this if possible. Meng are using a slightly softer plastic than Tamiya but the quality is fantastic and this is in fact one of the better kits I've built! Lot's of options and extras and the photo etched parts have a plastic film on both sides for protection - many thanks for that! If you want a nice Panther Ausf.A in your collection, this is the one, unless you go for the new Takom one with full interior. This one is going to give you less headache when building it, that I can promise you ;)
Hey, Uhm I am currently building an Airbus A400M "Atlas" 1/72 scale from Revell. I'm now waiting until the LEDs arrive that I'll be putting in inside of it. But I have a question for the painting. I've seen and really admired your black and white shadowing, but I'm not quite sure if I can apply it on a transport plane?? Any advise for pre shading in genaral would be amazing!!
Hi Andy , thanks again for another great review, a little off subject i know but would you have any inside information on the release date of takoms bergepanther ? Or wether any other company is doing one. Many thanks John
Andy, thank you. Looks like a beautiful kit! Does the supplemental working tracks kit offered by Meng have the same individual links and guide horns as in the basic kit or is it a different approach?
Hello, I've done that before. Try a dremmel tool or a pin vise drill. They both work nice depending on the scale you're doing. Good luck and happy modeling.
Meng Panther seems to be an excellent value and quality is very good (hopefully builds well too) and upgrades should produce a beautiful model. Have to think those upgrades are going to cost a pretty penny though?
Hi Andy, first of all I'd like to thank you for reawakening my love of model building, as a kid growing up through the 70's in the UK I was a massive Air-fix modeller,( my old man was ex RAF that's where I got my introduction to WW2 planes, my Grandfather was a shipwright on the River Tyne he helped design and build most of the naval ships built in the area during both wars so I loved the warships as well) As I grew older I kind of grew out of it and eventually went on to serve as an Armoured Corps crewman crewing The Chieftain Main battle Tank during the cold war (joined '87) I'm currently building a Tamiya MK5 Chieftain and would love to see you build the takom mk11 as this was the vehicle that I crewed before my regiment became a reconnaissance regiment and we moved to scimitar Cvrt (have a look at the AFV club 1/35 scale scimitar in UN white the box artwork is actually my vehicle taken from a Photo taken in Bosnia '94, (the pendant flying is a Light Dragoon pendant and there is also a LD cap badge amongst the decals see my thumbnail keep up the brilliant content all the best.
I have a couple of afv scimitar kits and a land rover that i got some after market light dragoons decals for off ebay, i'm going to try and make a diorama loosly based on a picture i found of Lipa checkpoint (i think) are you a member of the mediocre modelers club on face book?
With separate side plates and front plate all they need to make other models is a new side plate, new front plate, new radiator fans, and new exhaust to make a new version.
I would have thought that new mold technology would allow -both- better detail and easier assemby? When model kits approach $50.00 USD my expectations are high. I am going to avoid kits llike this one. Good review as always!
Aloha Andy!! Like you vids man!! Can you tell me where you got those pine trees in your sunken diorama ? I think I asked you before but no answer from you!! Much mahalos!! Keep up the awesome vids brotha!!
Hi Andy! Good video, I encourage you to make your dioramas a bit more life like with figures and something going on in it that will just give it that much more pizazz.
personally I would probably skip the zimmerit, due to the germans stopped applying it to their vehicles in late '44. I believe they stopped factory application of it in September '44 and completely stopped all application of it in October '44.
knightedwolf Ausf A were produced between Aug 1943 to Aug 1944 so you would have to model a very early A to avoid Zimmerit. These were deployed in Italy so it is possible but the markings are not supplied. It is your project though so you can make it how you wish :)
Hey andy, Im working on a 1/48 B-25j from the pacific theater and I plan to do some heavy weathering on it. Have any tips? P.S. This panther model looks interesting, and I can't wait to see the diorama for it.

New models are nice, but i think overcomplicated, too many parts, too many splited parts. Its easy to do something wrong. I runied my takom aml-90 kit because of bad instruction.
IT IS NOT strictly an adult hobby!!!!!! I'm a teen and I love it! All the other youngins are on their phones while I'm building a masterpiece
Unfortunately we are like unicorns

Love your videos, very happy to see steady growth on your channel. Thanks Andy.
Just getting back into modeling after 20 years, wish there was a real model shop like yours around my area. great video
Wow ....what a great kit with really interesting features. I look forward to seeing thr completed model
Good review. Fantastic looking kit with all sorts of options for now and in the future. Buy the kit and as funds become available, buy the accessories.
I LOVE the toon tanks. Please do more of those.
Looks nice. Takom and rye model field are coming out the interior for the panther. Early January or February.
Hi Andy, enjoy your channel, greetings from the UK
Great video ... looking to get back into models .. I build dozens in the late 80's
Andy I would love to see you do a Cromwell model kit
Yes please
Look forward to the build video!

Sorry but Ming has lost its mind. Really enjoy your channel.
can you show us your store like all the models on the shelfs and that
Great jobs in general Andy. Here from Spain.
Got this in my stash atm. Came with a metal barrel. Cant wait to see how the zim. decals go on as i got them aswell.

SteelScooter saw a dragon Panther G (unopened) for 32usd on eBay , it's an older kit 10 years maybe but I'll take that any day over this meng one

Jens Andree Thanks for the heads up, nice review.
I made a proper review here:
scalemodels.politisktinkorrektpappa.com/2018/01/14/meng-panther-ausf-a-late-1-35/
Andy can you please build a takom FT-17 in the future
It's great that Meng molded the Panther A in red oxide, don't you think Andy. The way Meng moulded the part of the kit.
Love your vids Andy! Any plans to build the Rye Field middle production Tiger with interior?
Can you also put some winter soldiers on that Diorama? Would give a bit more "live" to the thing.
Yay hons is back :D
you can use plasticard to turn it into an Ersatz (Panther M10)
Can you please make building of Zvezda Yak 130?
Andy..can you film the discount/second hand corner? Im curious about whats in that pile. And if possible whats prices.

Andy, thank you. Looks like a beautiful kit! Does the supplemental working tracks kit offered by Meng have the same individual links and guide horns as in the basic kit or is it a different approach?
Hiya andy! Im just wondering if you could leave me some tips on how to make bullet holes in plastic models?
Thanks!

no mate I've only just stumbled across this channel I will check it out though. mind If I ask how you know the Regiment?
Joined in 97 never made it out of sir john moore got a MD, just got back into modeling and bought a cvrt and thought i'd make a diorama.
Nice vid again Andy I just picked this kit up
Still can’t get ahold of the meng Bradley with interior....
What is preferred, the Takom kit or this MENG kit?
Hi I would love to see a winter scene
Andy, do how do you fell about easy snap models or simple snap?
Do you know if the Friul tracks fit the Meng kits? In particular , the King Tiger kit.
Please do a winter diorama!!
Hey Andy, nice channel. Greetings from Mexico
With separate side plates and front plate all they need to make other models is a new side plate, new front plate, new radiator fans, and new exhaust to make a new version.
You make beautiful models. I'm following you from Turkey. Can you make destroyed/broken tank? Or diorama. I like your works.
OMG - The track guide horns are separate? Give me a break!
John Galt That's what I thought. It's gonna be a nightmare.
I would have thought that new mold technology would allow -both- better detail and easier assemby? When model kits approach $50.00 USD my expectations are high. I am going to avoid kits llike this one. Good review as always!
That's a deal-breaker for me.
Craig Deaton - Especially when one has to spend another $30.00 on aftermarket tracks to replace the kit tracks. No way.
You should build the Star Wars Republic Star Destroyer model, I'd love to see you tackle a capital warship!
Aloha Andy!! Like you vids man!!
Can you tell me where you got those pine trees in your sunken diorama ?
I think I asked you before but no answer from you!!
Much mahalos!!
Keep up the awesome vids brotha!!
Beutiful you should build the 1/32 scale stuka
Andy,
Do you do commission builds for people. I have a model I would love for you to build.
damn, well now i know my next kit
Hi Andy! Good video, I encourage you to make your dioramas a bit more life like with figures and something going on in it that will just give it that much more pizazz.
Thanks for that, excellent timing! I was just trying to decide to pull the trigger and order this when i saw this pop up!
Excellent vidéo! As always. Do you know if you will ever do small car like a german kubelwagen or a steyr?
Other than the tracks (the ones in the kit, I mean), that looks like a good kit, I might get it sometime.
I like that they will most likely have a cutaway version to view the interior. I never liked the clear hull (or fuselage half fo planes) concept.
Don't care for the zimmerit decals or the tracks. Otherwise looks like a decent model. Think I'll stick with Tamiya or Dragon. Thanks for video Andy.
Actually do you sell these kits at your store? Or you can’t resist?😊
I do sell them
I would just get rid of those tracks and use friuls. I love model building, but I have a job too.
ETA on the interior for this kit?
such cute tanks
I thought the first run of this kit was supposed to include a metal barrel?
Can't wait to build one but not looking forward to the tracks
personally I would probably skip the zimmerit, due to the germans stopped applying it to their vehicles in late '44.
I think the winter diaroma will be awsome
Hey andy, Im working on a 1/48 B-25j from the pacific theater and I plan to do some heavy weathering on it. Have any tips?
P.S. This panther model looks interesting, and I can't wait to see the diorama for it.
Max W. I'm not a proffessional, but I've heard and seen that naval aircrafts have heavy panel line wheathering... I dont know if my infos are correct but maybe you can work with it?
I've seen many pictures of B-25s in the pacific with heavy panel line weathering, and that's what I going with.
Excellent model, I also want myself, but it's expensive for me)
The kits are manufacture from China? I saw some simplified chinese name on the box
Yes. Meng is a brand from China-Shenzheng
I love the World War Toons tanks!
the tracks are pain in the ass. but others are good. you should try the movable suspension kit.
thanks andy
Andy I’m a big fan and I love you modeling. Pls do a titanic modeling I really like titanic.
Hey very nice channel and i video :p greetings from Poland
When I see a build I like. Bam, that kit is sold out and n/a. ?!?. Awesome builds though.
Who built model kits in the 60s??? Those years were only around 15 years after world war II😨 I have no idea if scale models had already been invented that time
Loved it
I am 14 and I make a lot of 1/72 scale models
Kv 2 look's cute
nah it's 99rmb in china which should be 16.5 usd in the US
Go Bastogne?
New models are nice, but i think overcomplicated, too many parts, too many splited parts. Its easy to do something wrong. I runied my takom aml-90 kit because of bad instruction.
well like it and the toon got look at em the ton ones littel fugen who knows
The pronunciation of meng is closer to mong, It's a chinese family name.
In China, it just near 20 USD....
Nou late. Mide
#dowant
#dowant
seems unnecessarily complex if you ask me.
Don't play with it Andy...or you'll go blind.....
Far too complicated and unnecessarily so, imo.
You already have 2 Panther builds on the channel. Why not build something original?
Bof
