PAK 40 German 75mm anti tank gun.

- This gun is a beast! As you can see the muzzle blast is incredible. The WWII German PAK (PanzerAbwehrKanone) 40 was developed in early WWII but didn't see widespread production until about 1941. The gun was often used by allied forces whenever they would over run German positions which shows the effectiveness of the gun.
This gun was resurrected from an art museum where the owner had painted it pink! It was restored to working order and the federal paperwork required to build and possess this gun was obtained. It is not legal for an ordinary citizen to have a working field piece like this.
there's always that ONE guy with the pak 40 at the machine gun range

geschwindigkeit austretenden Gase tragen

People can't get a joke.
You see that, Hollywood? That is what an actual cannon looks like when it fires. Massive recoil and concussion wave. So stop with the obvious blank rounds.
They aren't just going to fire real rounds. That's dangerous.
Tholaran97 But they can replicate what it really looks like if they actually took the time to. You can do amazing things with computers.
Michael Akkerman Yeah but it's cheaper and easier just to use blanks.
Tholaran97 I know. That doesn't have anything to do with it.
Michael Akkerman It has everything to do with it. Cost, time, and effort are some of the reasons they don't try to make cannons look real when they fire. That, and they just don't care. Neither does the audience.
To think this was only a 75mm gun. Imagine the Pak 43 with it's 88mm would be one hell of a concussive force.

Friendly reminder: Tank version of this gun was widely used on German tanks such as the Panzer IV, StuG IV, Hetzer, Jagdpanzer or Marder III. So just imagine this thing firing directly next to you inside a relatively small steel box...
Most of that bang went outside LOL
Still uncomfortable firing such a powerful weapon inside a tiny hetzer.
@@marcusstrobl8316 PaK 40, or rather tank version 7.5 cm KwK 40, was never used on Hetzer. Hetzer had a 7,5 cm PaK 39 gun. Germans try to fit a 7.5 cm KwK 42 gun, but this gun was too big for this chassis.

Very underrated piece of weaponry imo. AT gun crews had to have balls of steel
they wouldn't be set up alone and they would be well concealed with other AT guns to their right and left to have multiple angles of fire on the enemy. also infantry staggered around to help make sure they aren't countered.
AT gun's really would've been a cushy job as you would either be defending the front line from the rear or would be waiting for an ambush where you would have the upper hand (generally)

0:22 and that, my friends, is why you use a lanyard to fire artillery!
German engineering strikes again. I love the old german weapons in WWII like the mouse, Heavy Gustav and Dora
Maus never got into service
The Maus and the Schwerer Gustav were a huge waste of resources. Several smaller pieces of artillery would have been more effective. The bore of the Gustav eroded so quickly from firing, that it couldn't hope to hit anything after a few shots. It needed 4500 men for contruction and guarding etc. when it was deployed.
And the Maus was also a waste of resources. Only a big target for arial bombardement or artillery. So slow that it could be easily flanked. So heavy that it would get bogged down in rough terrain and not able to cross most bridges. It also needed huge amounts of fuel.
I once heared it was planned to be used on the defense in tandem with huge bunkers. It would drive out of the bunker to fire, and when enemy planes arrived, it would retreat into cover. In that situation, it would actually work, kinda like a more flexible bunker.
Many of the heavy tanks that the Germans actually deployed already had problems with being too heavy, too slow. too fuel hungry, and too unreliable. Transmissions or engines would break because of the large forces required to move such a heavy vehicle. Many designs were too complicated and ahead of their time. Immature designs were rushed into service. Many designs were a nightmare for maintenance.
The russians recognized that tanks don't survive that long anyway, due to combat losses. They accepted that parts would eventually break, and just made it so that repairs could be made easily. The also regonized that it's better to deploy greater numbers of weaker designs. Germany had to choose the route of technical superiority, because they would never have the numbers to match the Sovierts or the US, but they overdid it, and ended up with behemoths that were plagued with technical problems.
Don't get me wrong, I love the German designs, too, but I really prefer stuff like the Panther or Jagdpanther. I think they hit the sweet spot with those and should have stuck with them. Not built things like the Tiger II or the Ferdinand, not to mention the research spendings on things like the Maus or other projects that luckily didn't get past the blueprint stage like the E100 series.
The Germans really had superior armor and firepower, but the vehicles were too slow to be where they need to be at the right time, and not numerous enough to have an impact on the war as a whole. Some of the late war models had more losses due to running out of fuel or ammo, or due to mechanical breakdowns than due to enemy fire. But I really think that they would have done better with being a bit less armored, but faster and lighter. A smaller target. Less fuel use. Higher numbers.
Peter Peterson you do know the maus was to have a 30 mm flak mounted onto the turret correct ? Artillery wouldn’t have done much due to its armor and flanking ? It’s armor wouldn’t be penned ...again ...
Peter Peterson plus the “transmission broke” that’s a myth henschel solved That problem years ago plus the soviets didn’t accept anything they literally had a strategy called the human wave tactic they only thing they accepted was that they don’t care about their population and need a kill a few million people 20 million to be exact .
Peter Peterson and the last bit the panther was exactly that -_-
WOOOOOO! Now thats firepower. Love the slow motion hat fly off!

Guess who won ww2 :) (t-34)
Comrade Mark Not really the T-34 was a crap tank. And no I ain't biased as my favorite WW2 tank was the KV-1 and will still be.
It was just that the Sherman was heavily superior heck it even out produce the T-34 and guess what in lend lease the Soviets have been given Sherman tanks. I mean the Sherman is superior in every way being the jack of all trades which is a good thing as you don't need to develop a new tank to do a certain task. I mean the Sherman can cross rivers, use rocket artillery or become a artillery platform. It can be a multi troop transport. And last of all it is decent at engaging other tanks and heavily effective killing infantry. And the Panzer IV is also crap I mean the Germans should've slapped a 75mm on the Panzer III.
Also guess what the slope is a joke as Hesh would make mince meat out of a T-34

Not the sherman
+ItsEpicXD Not the sherman? That anty-tank gun was able to penetrate plate of armor 70-80mm, tho Sherman just had if i good recal 51 mm? That was also the same gun as Pz.4 was using, then Pz.4 was far superior to standard Sherman.
+Ayano-chan The M4 models had anywhere between 51-63mm of armor at 60 degrees or 47 degrees. Giving the Sherman an effective frontal thickness of either 90mm or 97mm. As for the M4A3E2 the frontal armor was 102mm sloped at 47 degrees = 139mm effective thickness. This gun would wish to penetrate that thing
This gun at 250m could penetrate about 120mm.
Also no... The Kwk 40 on the Pzkpfw IV was not the Pak 40, similar in design, but much lower velocity and different ammunition.
Compared to the relatively common 76mm armed Shermans (not fireflies), the Pzkpfw IV was quite inferior.
7.5cm Kwk 40/48 , that was used on for example at Pz.IV.H and that 75 had velocity of 920, so if u can see, high velocity, and you are saying that gun couldn't penetrate Shermans. No sense! M4A3E3 were designed for fight's with Tiger's/Panthers , tho those two , had much superior gun's right?
Ayano-chan The M4A3E2 wasn't designed to fight tanks at all, it was purely a field kit to a M4A3 (dry) as a convoy/spearhead tank. However there are many cases in history, such as the Battle of the Bulge, Remagen, and Northern Italy where the Panthers and Pzkpfw IVs simply bounced off of them. Same with countless Shermans also field modded with 1" (25.4mm) thick armor kits. Some were reported to have added 3x to a M4A3 (76)W VVSS = about 5.5" (14cm) of armor.
At typical combat ranges, the Pzkpfw IV and M4 could penetrate each other's front with whatever gun.
The Kwk 40 with its common Pzgr.39 APCBC round, had a muzzle velocity of 790m/s, the 76mm with the AP M79 and APC M62 had 792m/s which were one of the more common 76mm shells. The rare HVAP round had a muzzle velocity of 1,036m/s.
