Orlando was freakin amazing on American Gods. Every time he was in a scene, it made me sit on the edge of my seat. His Anansi is one of my favorite on screen characters of all time.
I find it so strange that someone like Talib fails to realise the self serving nature, the cunning, deceitful never ending quest for power that Mr Nancy represents - he is so much like Oden in that regard. He even tells the slaves that they should die a sacrifice, he doesn't say to what or whom, but anyone who watches the show would know it is a sacrifice to *him* - that makes him more powerful. Just as how Shadow Moon sacrifices himself to Oden, blood sacrifices are the most powerful things to the gods. Yet people watch that sequence as if its some liberation speech. That's not what it is, Mr Nancy is looking for power, like all the gods, and like all the trickster gods he is willing to deceive and trick them into doing things, to serve him and his power, he is willing to play them like strings, using their human nature against themselves.

I’m so angry at the producers for not appreciating Orlando and just the whole show idea in general..it’s so upsetting..American gods taught me more about history than school ever did
I felt like I was tapping in with my ancestors when Anansi came on. That was different man, respect to Neil Gaimon for bringing that into his story. Amazing acting from Orlando Jones who must’ve been guided by the ancestors in that portrayal, absolutely spot on. I appreciate seeing a black character that doesn’t waver in times of adversity especially during the times of slavery. It’s refreshing to see the side of the story of our people that we’re not only resilient but also powerful and would rather die on this physical plain with their heads held high, than bow down and become a slave. Powerful. I really want to see a spin off involving the African God’s that ended up travelling the world in the hearts of their people in the Diaspora. Maybe some more about the Haitian God’s and those of the “deep south” bayou regions where “voodoo” is involved. I’m invested. But again, well done for your portrayal of Anansi, it was second to none. Still mad they cancelled it but hey, we move.

absolute shame Orlando didn't get to see this through. I thought so much more of Neil gaiman, I thought he would have backed Orlando up. all his stories are about humanity, how we are all basically the same, and our worships are inspired by similar themes. much love orlando.
RIP Anansi. one of my favourite characters from AG, it's a shame they cut you loose. Show coulda gone on for 8 seasons with who they had (since they're not 100% canon to the books anyways).
Great interview, awesome information, and a fan of the People's Party podcast but for a minute I wanna step aside from the main context of the story and speak on the last minute of Mr. Jones comment ( me being from St. Louis ) and say this: I always wondered what the reaction would be if I walked into Busch Stadium with a Curt Flood jersey on? He had a very powerful message to present to sports then and now. It's way past due, the jersey needs to be made!
I grew up on Anansi the spider stories. Very popular stories told to most black Jamacian kids..makes sense as black Jamacians we brought to Jamaica to be slaves from Ghana, Nigeria etc..and Ghana is where the Anansi story originates.
That’s interesting. Never understood why all my uncles and older step-brothers hated free agency so much. Always ranting about how it “ruined the game”. Makes perfect sense now.
That's one of the reasons my response to NBA "super teams" isn't to get mad, but to rather say "they're not slaves anymore." It seems that people like the "free market" but only when it suits them. IF a team has money under the cap and they can fit three superstars, then by all means do it. Every team has the opportunity to do it and that's why Free Agency is dope in the regard of sport and the arts.
You're wrong - here's the history; "Free Agency" started with Curt Flood. Before him; players were basically held captive by one team and had to take what they gave or leave. After he fought the system - he opened the doors for players across all sports to move and offer their services to the highest bidder. A black man! Nobody stood by his side when he fought that fight but he won. Free Agency is a good thing - without it; players would be stuck in terrible deals for life.

Came here from TikTok. But remember watching this, new series, episode. He performed the “Anger Gets Shyt Done.” I was under the impression these type monologues got him fired. But he didn’t write it he said Bryan Fuller and Micheal Green were the authors of that piece
Orlando Jones says a WHOLE LIT OF GREAT TRUTHS.UNFORTUNATELY TOO MANY OF US ARE STUCK IN OUR BIASIS TO ACCEPT WHAT WE DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE.
Orlando Jones is a BRILLIANT actor! It broke my heart how they devolved this character.
They fired him because he was too Real..And not a sellout..You are a excellent actor..2023
I predicted that Orlando wasn't going to last: Way, Way, Way too powerful...That's why we have to make our own stories, reclaim our entire history.
My favourite character in American Gods because he did speak the truth powerful scene
Everyone likes Mr Anancie. Kicking him off the show killed the show. Orlando is truly talented.
I was like Yes!!! Thank you -
I love that scene so much from American Gods.
The reason why that scene was so powerful is because anansi aka Orlando Jones broke down black slavery and white supremacy to a tea.
So you wrote you own lines brother. Wow very impactful!
Orlando bro. You the best in all you do. Whenever I see your name in all movies. Your talent and gifts shows in each character. And should I say your comedy ability much love and salute bro
That speech was amazing they should've kept him on the show and paid that man bread
i was furious they fired Orlando. That man was BORN for that role and made the show so much better
Respect for Orlando Jones .. Great writer and actor
I know TALIB said he's not a sports fan but that Pelicans fitted 🔥🔥🔥
Yo that’s the first thing that caught my eye 🔥🔥
I only watched American Gods because saw the clip of Orlando. I watched the show only through the seasons he was with the show
Anansi is one of, if not, the most important characters in the book. Orlando was right to bucc against the system!
Orlando u played that part omg keep your head up my brother you told the truth about the way it is my hero my brother I served my country and still as a black man still a slave in America
Anansi made me feel different. I kept getting shivers down my body. I absolutely loved his character and how much he educated the watchers as well as the passionnnn! I’m so angry at the producers for not appreciating Orlando and just the whole show idea in general..it’s so upsetting..American gods taught me more about history than school ever did
And he gave another... Just as appropriate perspective to a lot of what was being looked at from obviously different considerations
I refuse to watch season 3 as much as i love the show. Orlando, you made it so great even more than I knew. It was so great to hear your side of this.
Season 3 actually brought the show back.
@burdenslifted naaah
I absolutely love this man! His talent and intelligence is beyond this world! ❤ & ✌🏾
Orlando Jone´s performance was sooooooo powerful. Well done Orlando.
💪🏿🙏🏾❤️
I love you Orlando Jones ♡♡♡
Just started watching Season 3. Didn't even realize he was off the show, but the new direction the show has taken has made it completely boring. Now finding out what happened with Orlando it makes sense now
Their still doing the whole I'd he a God I'd he not. Will the son become one or choose mortality. Blah blah blah the new season is half way through with no progression story wise.
absolute shame Orlando didn't get to see this through. I thought so much more of Neil gaiman, I thought he would have backed Orlando up. all his stories are about humanity, how we are all basically the same, and our worships are inspired by similar themes. much love orlando.
He said Gaiman got fired or removed too
@@nitroluskincaid Gaiman was not fired/removed.
This is very intriguing!!! Frfr
His acting is 🔥🔥🔥🔥.
Orlando jones speech was the reason y I watched it I’m tight
Oh he from Boston that says alot🤔
RIP Anansi. one of my favourite characters from AG, it's a shame they cut you loose. Show coulda gone on for 8 seasons with who they had (since they're not 100% canon to the books anyways).
He was the hologram librarian in 'The Time Machine'.
That scene gave me chills yala. Alot of respect and love.
We need a Anansi movie with Orlando playing him.
American Gods was a Spectacular season and a half of TV. Thank you Orlando!
The Brilliance of bro. Orlando is unmatched
I grew up on Anansi the spider stories. Very popular stories told to most black Jamacian kids..makes sense as black Jamacians we brought to Jamaica to be slaves from Ghana, Nigeria etc..and Ghana is where the Anansi story originates.
👍🏾
Wait... they let go of Anasi? Oh hell nah...👿
Yup..i guess he played that role too good and it scared sum of them "FOLKZ"😏
Uhm
Can't wait to see this full interview!!
